Dylan here, nah we never would like be mean we legit were just watching play through of stuff and be like “yo that was sick” and he would take offense immediately about it. In his defense of not being able to play drums to the album we did release it around harvest time which is when he was in the fields a lot but regardless dude never practiced and our engineer wouldn’t have worked with us if we didn’t do midi drums lol and he never once even tried to practice with the “new” drum stuff but it’s not like it was much different he just legit couldn’t do fills to save his life

A long time ago, my drummer and I were trying to audition a new bassist who claimed he was amazing. When he got there and we started playing, he just stood there with his bass in his hands. I asked if he needed a moment since he wasn't playing and he said he needed a moment to figure it out. Fine and dandy. I said, well, maybe we can try something that you'd be familiar with so I started playing a few songs that I had learned for myself (End Eternal) by Vein was the first that I was messing with. Like 30 seconds into it, I see him packing up his stuff so we stop and I ask what's up. He said nothing just had this sour ass look on his face and after he finished, he left without any elaboration. Fast forward to a week later and I messaged him to see what was going on. He responded that he felt we were wasting his time since he wasn't trying to be in a cover band. I told him that we tried playing our material and he didn't even try and that if he actually wanted to try, he could. Turns out, he didn't actually know how to play at all and couldn't admit it. Some people's kids...

I've got one. In the 3rd band that I was in, it was fronted by one of my ex girlfriends (who I was on good terms with), my ex best friend on bass, and another guy on drums. She ended up quitting, I took over as the singer and kept playing guitar too. During our first practice as a trio, the drummer started trying to play over everybody else. During the middle of the song we were playing, he threw his drum sticks at me and told me to either, "Tune my fuggin guitar or he would smash it against my skull". That caused a big argument and he almost got kicked out on the spot. He managed to turn the bassist against me and I ended up getting kicked out of the band. They lasted about a week before having a huge fist fight and ending their friendship. Another one was caused by me and I admit it. In the band I'm currently in, I kept trying to one up the singer. It's the first band I've been in where I wasn't the singer so I felt like I should be the singer. After a solid week of trying to out do him and failing every time, I learned my place. He was never rude about it and I apologized for it. We moved past it and we agreed that I would do the harsh vocals and he would do clean vocals (kinda like new Scar Symmetry) and things have been great since then.

Bassists are some of the most fun people to be around. I had one in my band that wasn’t very bright. I told him my guitar was heavier than his bass (I have a really heavy guitar) and when the singer agreed my guitar was heavier the bassist said “that’s cause you didn’t hold my bass from the top” as if where you hold it on the neck effects how much gravity is pulling on it😂

In one of the bands I was in, the lead guitarist would bring his annoying best friend to practice. The guy kept trying to play the synthesizer or drums for the band and couldn't play either. He kept trying to be in the band and no one liked him. He also tried to give us some input on what to do better. He even tried to get us to sound like dubstep and metal. When the lead guitarist left the band his friend tried to take credit for all the songs and threatened legal action if anyone tried to use the songs with new bands. I mean, he lost but still.

Auditioned to lead sing for a band, got the gig. First practice, the lead guitarist, who started the band, decides he wants to lead sing, and I could just do harsh vocals. At this point, I could already feel the tension in the room. He was awful, and after trying to politely convince him that I would be more than happy to do it, the rest of the band got in a huge argument, and I left. Needless to say, I didn't go back.

Awkward stage moment that I had last year. My band and I were playing a show with some local artists that we’d found and sounded really awesome, but I’m convinced the venue we played at is cursed or something. Three bands before us, the lead singer / guitarist had a moment where he accidentally tripped over his guitar cable during one of their songs while he was holding a (probably fake) machete to play it, so he did only vocals for the rest of their set. Two bands before us, one of the speakers in the bass cabinet blew out. During our set, the snare drum skin that we were using had a hole popped in it, I’d been having connection issues with my wireless system the whole night (keep this in mind), and during the last song, specifically during the second to last guitar solo in our set, I accidentally stepped on the cable that connected my amp to my multi-effects unit and didn’t immediately realize it. Because I’d been having problems with my wireless, I decided to quickly switch my whole setup to a wired one. After still not getting any sound through the provided cabinet, I looked back at my amp to see the end of the cable hanging halfway out of the amp’s input jack. I’d invited as many of my friends as I could for that show, and I still get shivers every time this particular venue is discussed for upcoming shows. That was a rough night 😆

I played bass in a band for about a month. Originally just jamming with the guitar players as the drummer lived in another town. I picked the guitarists up and we loaded our gear in my station wagon and drove to the drummer's place. We get there and start practicing and everything is going well. The guitar players proceed to get increasingly drunk throughout the night. It gets to the point where the one guitar player is messing up and can't remember stuff. Other guitarist and him have a blow up argument and then I just go the fuck off on both of them because at this point I am beyond frustrated. I then had to drive them home and listen to them bitch and argue for an hour. Never talked to them again and sold my bass gear the next day because I didn't want anything associated with the experience.

That Misfits one reminds me of the time some friends and I made a band to open for a well known local band. The problem was, we never really practiced, and then only the drummer and I showed up. So in front of the main bands families (a cover band who did like Cumbersome) I grabbed a guitar and a mic while my friend drummed and we played Skulls, Astro Zombies, Knowledge...it was hilarious. Great memory. Especially playing Skulls 😂 the looks from some people

I had a friend who played guitar in a small band and one day we were hanging out I started singing along to a Fear Factory song and he said he wanted me to sing in his band and when I went to the house to practice the other singer was standing in the corner staring at me the whole time, he was angry they didn't want him as singer anymore but he couldn't do any metal vocals and that's what they wanted so needless to say I wasn't comfortable and couldn't remember any lyrics..... I can't say I wasn't embarrassed but I felt more unwelcome than anything. 😅 LoL

I saw a local bands first show ever, can't remember the band name but..... I was there with the sound guy and just helping set up a little. The bass player puts his stuff on stage and proceeds to ask the sound guy if he has to plug it in, not plug the bass in, plug the amp in for power. The sound guy looked so dumbfounded, I was dying on the inside. Half way through their set the singer pulls out a guitar, no amp, no DI, no cord, and just starts playing during the song, my jaw was on the floor. After the set was over, the singer was sitting on the side of the stage strumming his guitar, trying to look really cool as people walk by when the drummer from the next band stops and stares at him. Just looks him dead in the eye and yells, MOVE! The kid sheepishly got up and packed his guitar away and left. I was dying on the inside from laughing!

There was one local band in my area several years ago, they started out alright, but pretty quickly the frontman got a bit cocky. Another local band that actually helped them get started in the first place was setting up a show and asked if they wanted to be a part of it. Well dude says, "we're too good for that venue now" and just shat all over the venue AND the band that helped them get started and booked shows for them. And then one day, they played a show and he had new guitar players and a new drummer. He was such a dick, his whole band left him except for the bassist who was also a dick.

So glad to see you experience A Perfect Circle! They have so many good tracks (not really a bad one in thier discography) Maynard in Tool being back in the vocals is a great musical choice he fits the bill really well but in A Perfect Circle he's definitely more pronounced and it works just as well for the esthetics they were aiming for. Tool is def more abstract and technical but A Perfect Circle is definitely more catchy and digestible for most people. I'd love to see your opinions on "Weak and Powerless" "The Outsider" "3 Libras" and as a wild card "The Noose"!

I once answered an ad on Facebook looking for a bass player. The guy I talked to (whole I'll call John) about joining gave me an address of their practice space, said it was his dad's land. I get there and I start talking to the guy, I saw others in the garage and assumed it was the rest of the band. Nope, it was his girlfriend and and a buddy of his. I start to unload my stuff and his dad came around. I seemed a little out of it, but i didn't know his story so I payed it no mind. Once John and I are set up and we begin to play I quickly realize that this sucks and has not put in the practice time to be in a group. After his dad leaves he tells me "Oh btw, if you see him pull out a pipe dont worry about it. He just smokes meth every now and then." I soon came up with an excuse and left. Blocked him immediately.

Whoo, I got quite a bit First band had a bass player who never learned the music on his own. He would never practice on his own and would show up and not be able to play the songs. Threw a fit when we had to kick him out My first Metalcore band, our drummer had this really manipulative girlfriend who would try to control everybody. I had written all of the music, anyways, we recorded our first song with a guy I was good friends with and had recorded with in prior bands. Our drummer kept harassing the guy to get the song out, evenetually the producer released a halfmixed song with a limiter on it due to our drummer harassing him. I was always at odds with the drummers girlfriend because she kept trying to mess with everything. Anyways, the producer said he never wanted to work with us again. Our drummer and his girlfriend told the rest of the band he didn't want to because of me, we had a big argument over, even with me eventually talking to the producer and he explained it was due to the drummers harassment. The rest of the band sided with her because they all wanted to get with her. I just told them "I quit, and don't use any of my music, because I can literally prove that I wrote them" They struggled to write music after until the other guitarist really learned how to write (he does a good job btw. although Im still salty at him for believing that idiot) 10 years later, that drummer is untouchable in the local scene, nobody wants anything to do with him. The chick ruined a few other guys lives (including his) after they separated and now I started a new band and released our first single. The other guys eventually discovered that she was a manipulative PoS. But I still hold a tiny grudge I stopped doing local music for a bit due to the rampant toxicity in my local scene. Fast forward to now and I started a new band with some friends who burned out of the music scene previously too and we just released our first single with a lyric video so we are pretty happy and our music is getting more hits online than any of the local bands. But building up to this band was interesting, our first singer (long time friend of mine) just randomly ghosted us with no explanation. We pulled in a second singer, and he literally could not write vocal melodies, he sang very well but literally could NOT come up with vocal melodies, we would send him songs to write for, then we brought him over to record vocals. He showed us the lyrics and I was like "Cool! Lets lay them down" He gets over here and he didn't write any vocal melody... he didn't even know the songs we sent him, then wanted us to write the melodies with his lyrics that were nearly impossible to line up with anything in the song. We dropped him pretty quick.

My band in high school auditioned a bass player who showed up for a a couple practices, played one show with us and then stopped showing up for practices and was just not reliable and we couldn't get ahold of him easily. So our next show we decided to just not tell him about it. It wasn't advertised anywhere that we were playing it, and we didn't post about the show anywhere. Somehow, he showed up (for once) to the show anyways. He had an acoustic guitar with him instead of a bass for some reason, so we had to borrow a bass from somebody else there and then we taught him a bunch of our songs he didn't know in the bathroom before going onstage and playing with him. It ended up turning out alright, but that was the last time he played with us...

As a non binary straight edge introvert, I believe everyone who had me as their band member would count me as a situation similar to those in the video. Once there was a band that was very toxic for me because they were the total opposite of me, like literally fuckboys who only wanted to impress women despite most of them having girlfriends (the vocalist who is the worst of them literally said that if we want to go to the studio to record, we need to record a ballad for the girls). When I was in the band, they constantly insulted me that I suck at playing guitar, that my compositions are just poor attempts of being an Architects cover band or that I don't want to take the train for multiple hours just to go to crowded places watching them getting drunk and hitting on everything that breathes (I live in a different city than where we practice because I couldn't find any musicians nearby). They also insulted my girlfriend back then behind her back. There was one instance where a fan reached out to me on Instagram to ask if the vocalist is single, but since I always want to tell the truth, I said that he has a girlfriend and only the other guitarist was single back then. She said that she is going to wait until he is single again then and since I thought that was a bit funny, I shared that story with the band since the other guitarist who was the youngest in the band was also the only one who actually is single. Instead of laughing about it and going with the meme, they started insulting me again especially the vocalist because "we are not allowed to show that we are in a relationship to give the groupies the impression of us being available". It all ended up with me being kicked out while I was in hospital having the worst time of my life with someone attempting to rape me and them stealing my songs claiming that they wrote them and that I never wrote anything in the first place although they hate my songs. They disbanded a year later, however they formed new bands and are getting viral now to continue being toxic while I can't bring myself to make music again. Since then, I'm constantly thinking about selling my guitars, deleting the over 700 songs I've written and shooting a bullet through my head because I simply am not cut for being in a band or making music in general, all I have been doing is chasing a childhood dream that has been dead from the start.

My mom one day after coming home from a pretty bad day of bullying gave me the most useful piece of advice. -If you let what they say or what they did hold you down you and keep you down you ultimately just gave them the win. They are so self absorbed and evil they probably haven’t thought about you since it happened. But your still thinking about them. Your lying awake at night thinking about what they did to you while they sleep soundly. Don’t let them win.❤ also Jesus loves you and he can heal all wounds. Stay strong and be victorious!

I got a story about a drummer I used to play with. He was very good but always turned down shows unless he got 3 days notice. Not admitting that he needed 3 days notice to be sure he had enough heroin to feel good enough to do it. Then when me and him broke off and started a bass and drums two man band (like Om) he was always doing these backwards beats, trying to play things that nobody ever played before so I had to sing, play bass and work a bunch of pedals while keeping a metronome in my head because "I just didn't understand complex beats". I got fed up with his grumpy dad attitude and stopped playing with him and he owes me $275 that I'll never see because I paid his rent once.

yo this video was hella sick and funny. And the bomberman hero bgm was awesome, it took me a while to remember why it sounded so familiar lol. My awkward story was when an old friend of mine from highschool(who would rarely contact me) asked me to join his band and i agreed to, i meet the drummer and bass player and we all vibe. 4 practices go by and my friend who invited me to the band never showed up to any practice....all he did was set up a facebook page for the band. Well the one time he shows up he brings a 7 string guitar, we were mainly starting with covers to get a feel for it then start writing our own stuff (me and the other guys already had half a song written together) we were playing some iron maiden when i notice the song sounds kinda off so i ask everyone to play a part without the band and yup its my friend who is playing things off because of the seven string so i tell him to switch with me (i had a 6 string) we start playing again and still it sounds off....he didnt know how to play his instrument. 3 weeks go by and he tells me he got us a gig performing at our old highschool and the same day we all meet up but there is a new guy.....come to find out my friend who started the band was being kicked out by the group (i didnt get a say in it) and that the whole time they were testing me to see if i would be a good replacement. well they all agreed they wanted me to join and kick him out. both me and the guitarist quit the band that day. I didnt do it out of friendship to him or anything like that but it was such an annoying drive and i didnt want to deal with any drama so i just left the band and ignored the other guy.

Being drunk/high while working in any capacity is a fine line. If you can do your job well while intoxicated, then have at it (obviously not if your job is like... a forklift driver or an air traffic controller, get your shit together), but your margin for error is a lot smaller. The assumption is if you're drinking on the job, you'd better not fuck up. If you're sober and you fuck up, it's whatever, mistakes happen. If you're drunk and you fuck up, that's on you.

I feel validated when i hear you two say, "intrusive thoughts". Time and time again, someone _always_ tries to tell me, "It's impulsive, *not* intrusive" No, they are intrusive. I don't care what people try to tell me. I have ADHD, dyslexia, and (i'm 98% sure) _VERY_ slightly autistic. Impulsive thoughts are a slight annoyance, and will most often be quelled by removing yourself from the area. intrusive thoughts are a parasite that stick with you. Days, weeks later, the damn thing is still forcing itself upon your already overthinking brain. One has a chance to be (seen as) quirky when they win, and tend to be easier to forget about. The other is almost always bad when it wins, has a higher chance to win, and 'hurts' WAY more than impulsive does(mentally).

Guitarists and bassist all had ridiculously high end gear dialed in PERFECTLY, and the singer was the most talented singer I had worked with thus far. After our original last show before I moved, we get a surprise offer for one that our singer couldn’t attend. We decided it was going to be instrumental. On show night, one of the guitarists brings his buddy that used to do vocals to be a guest vocalist. Okay cool whatever. Next thing you know the whole set is getting ruined this drunk, autistic zombie sounding dude who ruined the music and even punched the shit out of my ride and it literally fell off of the stand in the middle of the song, and nobody helped me get it. I played a my mom and two uncles for years and one day I took time off work and school to play a gig and we got there. Needless to say there was another drummer there... my own family fucked me over. My mom ripped her brothers new assholes and quit the band rofgt then and there. she was the star of the band with her amazing voice and they fell apart without her. I hate them for it and have barely spoken to them since. they both won't admit who was supposed to tell I was out and both have to much pride to take blame. Assholes for sure. The one uncle once said it was because I was texting while playing and didn't learn the songs right. HE made random guitar solos that weren't supposed to be there and dragged the song on. i learned the songs note for note I was meticulous with my playing and still am. Also PS I don't think for a second I'm good enough to play while texting... so much for the cool uncles lol

I don't think this counts as an awkward moment, but it was disappointing at the time. I was auditioning to be the lead guitarist of a pop punk band. I thought things were going well, I clicked with the other band members, but I was let go a week or two later. There was no bad blood, so that's cool

One of the funnier ones are one of the last bands I've been in I met through a facebook groop and they were looking for a guitar player. I contacted them because they said in said ad that they were combining many genres including metalcore and deathcore, they weren't even in my area but I had nothing to do at that time so I joined. Little did I know they had an acquaintance of mine contacting them at the same time and decided that both of us get the gig, and just as I got started in the band I also decided to go to music college so I had less time and energy than what I thought. The band ended up being old school thrash, groove and even black metal riffs with metalcore vocals, which is nice but totally different than what I imagined and I didn't want it to be my main metal project while in college. I quit after only one show but I had a blast, still good friends with the guys, and also contributed to songwriting and production of the EP we started working on before I left, and I'm also an advisor and helping with management :) The worst one is in my 70s rock college ensamble. I had one singer who didn't show up for many of the practices with bogus excuses yet thought she'll still perform with us, we and our instructor kicked her out a couple of days before the show. There was also one singer/guitar player who I didn't get along with at all, one day I was sick so I couldn't come and she decided to steal some of my guitar parts, I was lucky our keyboardist quit so I took his parts as a challenge. Then in the show she was occupying the front of the stage the entire time, shoved me to the back every time I went to the front to do a solo. Both of us agreed to never work with each other again and I decided I'll never join another rock ensamble in college

I understand him not being great but there’s way better ways of handling the situation than just having him come in and see his replacement. You could have talked to him in private prior then there’s a chance he won’t be mad at you and just understand it won’t work out. That’s like showing up to your gfs house and she’s there with a new bf and all your stuff is in the corner like yeah id be pissed too lmao
