Regieleki is among the strongest returning Pokemon coming to Gen 9 after Pokemon Home Comptability releases on May 30th. With the ability to Terastallize, Regieleki can now overcome its greatest weakness, it's lack of coverage. It was previously unable to touch Ground types, who are very common in competitive. But now it can defeat anything.
Regieleki is an all new "Regi". Previously there were Regirock, Registeel, Regice, Regigigas, and also Regidrago is another new one. It's all true.

it really wasn't because ground types were already needed to prevent volt switchers from getting the goob off on u. This is a big reason tapu koko and zapdos began running uturn so they could pivot no matter what because people were counterteaming volt switch so hard. All the uturners that do a tonna damage (gen 8 cinderace, genesect, band urshifu) get banned and most uturners in the meta are very weak, only using the move for utility. Volt switch is different in that most of the time it is stab and coming from fast strong special attackers with no flame body/static/rocky helmet deterrents and so thus it necessitates the level of counterplay that it does

There are some out there saying Regieleki won't be busted. It isn't just limited to tera ice. Water tera is a option to hit the likes of Lando-T, Treads, Tusk, and fire for super effective damage. It can tera fairy and beat all dragon types 1v1. If your last resort to beat a mon is priority, then you have a mon with truly zero counterplay. Concerning special walls like Clodsire and Blissey, make Regieleki a physical attacker over special or just switch to a appropriate answer such as Great Tusk.

i feel like this is part of a very common theme in gen 9 of taking things that have always very strong in theory but balanced by well thought out drawbacks, and completely removing those drawbacks for the sake of making an epic new pokemon or mechanic. kingambit is imo the most broken pokemon in ou rn, and the whole reason why is because it takes sucker punch, a move that's always been respectable but a bit weak, and makes it as powerful as it can possibly be to the point that it's almost unbeatable. another example is tera normal extreme speed on dragonite, extreme speed has always been strong but held in check by not being given to normal types (besides linoone which is weak and arceus which is deliberately op), or acrobatics roaring moon which swaps using terrain and getting a defense boost for getting attack or speed with no requirements, and then can tera to make it stab which again has deliberately been avoided and besides hawlucha which is weak we've never had a pokemon that has flying stab, acrobatics and a good reason to use its item. all of the thought that gamefreak put into balancing these tools in the past has been completely disregarded which is a shame and is imo why ou is so frustrating to play this gen

Not very good in OU, potentially good in Ubers. Gen 8 Regieleki was better with Tapu Koko as a good Electric Terrain setter enabling Electric Terrain boosted Rising Voltages that 2hkod Blissey, but ends up walled by ground types. Tera Electric Thunderbolt doesn't hit as hard as Electric Terrain Rising Voltage, and doesn't fix the electric immunity problem. As a dedicated plan it just feels weaker. What I can see having potential for Tera Electric is a Reflect, Light Screen, Explosion, Thunderbolt Life Orb set where the plan is to in 90% of games just set up screens and explode, but then have the option to occasionally cheese a win against teams that didn't prepare an answer.

Before jumping into the conclusion of: "What were the council thinking" or "Regieleki was banned in ND for a reason", they decided to let it stay in OU just to see how it develops the meta, because National Dex is not the same as Gen 9 OU, and it may be different in that *OFFICIAL* tier. Although I still think it will end up banned, there are other threats coming from HOME that will stroll in OU for a time (Magearna for example)

To be fair Tera Ice provided that anyways, the only issue with Ice Tera is that you’re weak to bullet punch but the only Pokémon currently in the tier that can threaten it with bullet punch is Scizor who’s not really used in OU Tera Flying is arguably worse since you’re weak to Ice Shard from Chien Pao and you’re susceptible to priority in Psychic Terrain since you’re not grounded

I personally don't understand the ban, Eleki's attacking stat is still 100, it is not doing enough to really k.o and it is dying to even neutral hits because of how frail it is, ESPECIALLY With the ice typing, Even pokemon weak to Ice should eat a hit or two (not the 4x weak ones). The reason Eleki is a threat is because of transistor, it let's it hit super hard with electric attacks. Super effective attacks coming from a 100 SpA is not something centurilising, especially with 80/50/50 defences. I don't really play a lot of singles, though, I might be misunderstanding how this works

It's ability makes it about base 170 when using electric moves and now with terra it actually has coverage. Base 100 is usable for coverage moves look at special dragapult.

The thing is it is not there to take the hit. If there's something out of the ko range, volt switches. If there's priorities, switches. When you get it in usually you will get a free guaranteed strong neutral hit off and then ran. Rinse repeating and the opposing team is as ready to be cleaned off as dirty plates.

genuinely think that this pokemon will be insane on psychic terrain. You’d block off revenge killing from Dragonite and Kingambit if another pokemon chips them beforehand. You’d also ohko jolly azumarill easily I think the combination of Psychic Seed Sneasler + Regieleki would be awesome, with Sneasler being able to knock out pokemon who “wall” regieleki like blissey and iron treads with close combat dire claw and poison jab will deal with stuff like tera fairy skeledirge, clodsire garganacl and ting-lu. It could also cripple special walls for regi by using switcheroo, stealing their leftovers, or maybe tricking a choice scarf onto their skeledirge or something

Every other grass OU is a frail sweeper you could probably 2-shot through the resist. In Ubers, there's even less that can threaten you; just the water immune ground types like Gastrodon and Primal Groudon.

Regieleki will be strong against offense but not so much against defense. Clod probably shrugs off most coverage Eleki carries even if it's super effective. A base 80 STAB move coming off a base 100 SpA is going to be much more threatening when your lifeline is your ability to outspeed and OHKO stuff. We've also seen time and time again that a mon needing to tera is a pretty devastating flaw; Avalugg, for example, is little improved from before Gen 9. Tera-dependent mons need to be able to carry entire games; for example, setup sweepers (Volcarona), unaware mons (Skeledirge), and mons that have near-perfect stats, movepools, and abilities (Garganacl). Regieleki just isn't strong enough when it's not using electric moves to carry entire games like that.

If it Teratizes ice against Magnezone it resists both ice and electric and hits back with stab SE flash cannon/steel beam. You should always be going a max hp, max sp atk/max spdef or def Magnezone imo; it out running a few threats in uu with a timid nat Max spd isn't worth the hidden utility it has it higher tiers trapping steel types with magnet pull, and possibly ohkoing with tera thunder/thunderbolt On a rain team to check groun types magnezone is even better fully sp atk invested
