I don't think that was an aggressive tag by that one guy, he tagged him first, but still had momentum from chasing, didn't slow down in time so he ended up bumping into him

@@casandrablue2284 They were tied at that point but I understand what you mean. I too thought it wasn't aggressive, it was Alex who tried to back up/juke orlando which got him ran over. The disputed tag was the more interesting controversy as the yellow card didn't actually affect anything, and its honestly a toss up as to whether the tag was made or not. If I'm a ref I think I would have called the tag initially, and upon review I don't think it could be overturned either way as it was that 50/50. Either way great match.

This is still extremely entertaining and the sport is always growing. I mean WCT had multiple cameras at different angles ready and waiting to be reviewed. If 3+ cameras can't 100% confirm the tag I don't have a problem with the call. I will agree that it seemed his fingers changed to the direction of the shoulder from touching it and making contact BUT that is why we have referees there and the DTR as well as the editing staff and production crew. Thank you WCT!!!!

I'm not convinced that yellow card was warranted. Especially looking at the angle from the back, it looks more like he trips and both fall out from uncontrolled momentum rather than an intentional collision.
@billyw81862 жыл бұрын
Yellow card was completely unearned. It was caused by the runner's attempted juke move that brought him back in line with the chaser after the tag had been applied. It was probably only issued because the coach/team captain was complaining. Even the runner who was "tackled" had no problem with it.
@jmagicd98312 жыл бұрын
I agree, but seeing as we hardly ever see yellow cards, it probably won’t mean much over time. Refs probably just want to send a message that the sport is generally going to be held to a high standard of safety and sportsmanship. (Though the Marrero captain there might come out looking worse)

Was probably mostly just to appease MRG's coach since it wasn't going to actually matter. But two yellow cards just to sit out the rest of the match? Even if you got a card both times you ran, you probably weren't going to run again before the match was over anyway. Unless you managed to get one while evading as well somehow. Seems like a useless penalty.

Orlando, Abdullah and Luke are so strong. Luke could have escape at 8:40 if he jumped on the platform, totally understandable but it would have been a totally different matche. Lando has a tendancy to side step a little too far. From what we see today, PHAT has 3 really top performing athletes, they would be even greater if their team strenght was more balanced. I think at this stage they would lose to APEX Eth. I wonder how Devon would do on the quad.

Couple of thoughts, first off AMAZING match between two awesome teams! Secondly, that yellow card I think was BS, it was obviously not “aggressive” and just Lando giving it his all to get the tag, but thirdly I def agree with the ref that he got that last evasion! Congrats Phat!!!!
@blufferfish08962 жыл бұрын
I think with the DTR, the way he instantly put his hand up for the tag makes me think it had to be, there was no hesitation at all. But none of the cameras show it as clear and obvious so I think it’s the right decision.

I bet he grazed his shirt just enough the other dude didn’t feel it
@DJayAce42 жыл бұрын
I'd usually agree with you in any other scenario, but this was a do or die moment that would knock them out with no seconds to spare. It could have easily been what you said, but it also could have been a spur of the moment attempt to get a replay in hopes that he might have tagged him, even if he was unsure. He had no hesitation because there was no other attempt, it was a do or die moment with that being his one last chance. If that had happened with 10 seconds left, I'd 100% jump on board with what you're saying. Personally I feel like he might have barely grazed his shirt, but not enough for the fingers to give contact to the runner where he could have felt it, in the runners defense. I think in the end it was the right call though. It's up to the tagger to make it obvious enough for the refs to call it, which in the end didn't happen, even with the different angled replays. Times like this during pivotal moments happens in all sports. All you can do is try and be as fare as possible to both parties, which is why the rules are the way they are when it comes to reviewing replays and making fare decisions. Correct decision was made. It is what it is, fare win imo.

The rule is, if you’re tagging the evader you have to make it clear. 3+ camera angles couldn’t 100% confirm the tag, therefore, deeming it an evasion. It was really close though. Hard to tell, which means it wasn’t clear enough so that rule makes sense.

That was awesome. I can see how both participants think they are right in a situation like that. It was so close we're talking a fingernail barely grazing the shirt so if there was just a bit of space between shirt and skin on the evader, the chaser could have felt his finger touch the shirt but the evader would not have felt the tag at all. It's kind of like in baseball where a batter's shirt is hanging out from his chest just a bit and the pitch grazes his shirt but doesn't hit his body. Still considered a hit by pitch by the rules.

Once I got over my desire to see more via OT, I have to support that it wasn't as obvious as a tag to lend to more chases. If that tag was approved via DTR, literally every potential tag/non-tag like that would go through and WCT would go the route of soccer where teams will just auto complain to roll the dice for the win. Tough call--good call. Great chases all around tho.

Would rather have Alex get out of bounds and risk losing an evasion than Shane allowing the other team to score a point by not being able to tag them and close the distance. And Alex would not have been able to evade Orlando anyway. The strategy to win a match against Phat is to never send in your weakest/slower players to compete, always send in your fastest and most strategical players into doing the tagging. And always take advantage when Phat sends out their slower players as chasers (like Abdullah, Klaus, etc) in order to score an evasion or two.
