Jurassic Park introduced the Metriacanthosaurus dinosaur in an embryo storage but we never saw the animal in a live action film? What happened to this dino and why is it such a cryptid in the franchise? Compared to other theropods this one would be really cool to see!

I'm kinda wondering where that Nasutoceratops came from. I know it debuted in Battle At Big Rock, but still. I also want dinosaurs that debuted in Camp Cretaceous including the Tarbosaurus in Hidden Adventure to get some live action love too. Maybe other dinosaurs that never appeared in movies like the ones in games like Jurassic World Alive or Jurassic World Primal Ops, dinosaurs like Carcharodontosaurus, Acrocanthosaurus, Sonorasaurus, & Pachyrhinosaurus.

I love the Metriacanthosaurus and how little we know about it. It's a dinosaur that has stuck around in some way shape or form but never got an on screen appearance. I think a Jurassic live action series that has episodes dedicated to different dinosaur attacks in the mainland could be a great way to introduce this elusive carnivorous dinosaur.

Personally, for awhile I've ALWAYS included the Metriacanthosaurus in my JPOG playthroughs, and especially in my JWE ones too, though in my JPOG ones, I always gave it a " vicious Tiger-esque" aesthetic compared to the other Dinosaurs(with exception to the tiger-striped Raptors), albeit with a sage green and dark green color scheme and a with tan underbelly to it, and of course with Iguana-like spines along the back of the head and back.

@@muhammedzayan4399 personally, jp3 was more of a downer for me bc they killed a rex, the spino looked very plastic-y and the brachio was beyond that even (bad special fx). it was also too short and talking raptors are just too dumb for anyone. also how LOUD is that phone? sure, it's a cool moment, but also really dumb. also the spino is wayyyyy too aggressive for a normal animal. jw3 on the other hand was just ridiculously overambitious. if they made two movies out of it, renamed it and used different actors, i think we'd have a cool new franchise, sth more along the lines of primeval. ok, maybe the character assassinations were indeed too much, but again, under a different name it wouldve been fine enough.

Let's not forget: they've managed to mispell Tyrannosaurus Rex and Stegosaurus in the embryo scene, but somehow metriacanthosaurus (arguably an obscure animal, not present in the novels, and dare I say, less popular than acrocanthosaurus) was written correctly. I LOVED the ceratosaurus part, I think that was a perfect way to introduce a new dino that isn’t important to the story, and they don’t have time to give a real shot to. I would be mad if it was something I loved, like that was all we ever got of spino, or something, but a cool but obscure animal getting a little cameo is definitely cool with me. It’s no different from the way we got a momentary cameo from 2 allosauruses in Fallen Kingdom. That worked great. I’m SO glad they used it more later tho, but that worked for me.

It is the only animal from InGen's list that we haven't seen in any shape or form (outside of JP Institute) other than its skull icon on the park map. Better idea than making it a "villain". Make it a situational ally. Since it's comparatively small, and, apparently canonically, was killed by other predators on Nublar. Maybe a group of thrill seekers visiting the island take shelter in the Visitor's Center, and find a Metricanthosaurus has done the same thing. So they're both kind of camped out in the halls, while a T-rex is sniffing around the main lobby. And the human's do something to distract Rexy, and then Metri sees an opening and runs up and chomps her ankle, and then runs off, with Rexy in pursuit.

I find it funny how Klayton does not miss the opportunity to say how to rescue the JP franchise. Apart from that, Metriacanthosaurus is a mysterious dinosaur because, although the back is known, we really know nothing about the animal; only a hip and part of the tail have been discovered, so we know it is a theropod, but nothing else. We don't know anything else about the animal! And the truth is, I prefer that it not come out and avoid something like JP3's Spinosaurus that has nothing to do with the real animal, or simply think that InGen called the animals after him as they thought they came out.

I feel Metriacanthosaurus should be given some spotlight in a future Jurassic Park film or series. There are several species from the original Michael Crichton novels and that were listed in the first two films but were not shown. I think Metriacanthosaurus should be given some unique genetic characteristics and abilities. It's interesting that it may seem that it is the medium size theropods who had these qualities including Dilophosaurus and Carnotaurus. This would help them stand out and survive among the Velociraptors and larger theropods like T.rex.

It would be awesome to have a distinct prequel, may be set between Ben Lockwood and John Hammond split at the start and the escape of the Velociraptor that killed Joffrey at the end and it could focus on the build up process of the park and struggle of bioengineering, with it's difficulties, failures and even dark secrest and asset casaulties (something similar to the baboon in The Fly) and finaly the miracle of birth of the first viable and healthy dinosaur. I could bring back more darker sci-fi theme that disappeared from the franchise after The Lost World. The Metriacanthosaurus could be this movie's main animal character, accompanied by Proceratosaurus and Segisaurus, as they could portray how InGen did not have any clue about what animal they are cloning before it hatched from the egg, and so their first and desparate attempts to clone some public favorite (and also predictably profitable) dinosaurs like T-Rex and Velociraptor. Metriacanthosaurus could even have some unique features or behaviror making it very interesting for scientist and Henry Wu, but even so it would be completely overlooked by InGen executives because simply "not being T-Rex".

I guess not a lot was known about it since there are very few fossils at all and maybe they didnt want to speculate too much (I know they did make up some stuff anyway though). Also its one I dont think many people know about and also the name is a little difficult to pronounce/its kind of long lol. I LOVE the idea of featuring more mid sized carnivores though kind of like they did with carnotaurus in camp cretaceous or that scene with the baryonix in Jurassic world. It would be neat to see a full sized dilophosaurus or something like this that can hunt *inside* to a degree but maybe cant get into every spot. LOVE your idea about the prequel with these sized dinos. You also make a good point about Ceratosaurus. Imagine you are a kid watching that movie and thats your favorite dinosaur and you loved it your whole life then THERE IT IS on screen and thats all it does....smell poop and walk away.

Personally, I wanna see Megalosaurus in the JP movies/tv show. It's also a pretty cryptic dinosaur from how little of it was found but I always loved artist renditions of it and that it's got an unofficial rivalry with Allosaurus as both were Jurassic era carnivores. Seeing it in Evolution 2 just makes me believe it could serve as a great antagonist for a short film like Allosaurus did for Battle at Big Rock

I consider it a missed opportunity that the Allosaurus hasn't headlined as the big-bad. The average size of them was maybe double a polar bear...huge...but lithe and small enough to get around easily, unlike the Saurophaganax-sized one featured in Battle at Bigrock. We're the perfect sized prey for them. They're large and powerful enough to smash through stuff, but small enough to be quick. If Crichton or hollywood had seized on Allosaurus and avoided "upsizing" them.....they'd have been a more significant threat than the Raptors. Untrainable, crocodile-brained hunters with 14 inch hand claws and teeth designed to cut/shred.

Are you going to do more videos where you read the Jurassic Park novels or old scripts like you use to do before?

I think this would be great for a series. Something where there can be more content because it isn't crunched for time. I feel the same way about Dominion, it could have been a good 8 episode series (minus the whole locust thing which was just dumb).

Metriacanthosaurus was supposed to be in jurassic world fallen kingdom according to colin trevorrow but universal told him basically no because they were afraid that some audience members might confuse/mistake that dinosaur for either the allosaurus or the franchises tyrannosaurus rex klayton

There's so much fertile ground for a really interesting story after JP. Clearly all the dinosaurs didn't die off on Isla Nublar since some are in JW. I'd love to see a film go back during the getting the island under control for the JW park transition days. All sorts of fun stuff you could do with that.

They could give the Metri the Lost World Novel Carnotaurus camo abilities to explain why no one ever sees it
@cfakatsuki17

They never really showed off the power of carnotaurus but they gave his few scenes personality, which is more than most dinosaurs get, allosaurus never got much, most of the herbivores never got showed off that way but if they did something like what they gave the Tarbo in Camp Cretaceous they could easily make a new interesting Dino antagonist for a short thing

I normally don't reply to videos, I just lurk and listen while doing other things however I think this video has a pretty simple answer and that is this: Metriacanthosaurus can not exist in the current lore. So if you want to see him, it needs to be moved out of the current lore and set up something new. So for my opinion, if you want to see Metriacanthosaurus, you are going to need to expand the lore and for a dinosaur in the Jurassic Park series, there are only a few ways to expand the lore as it currently stands. I think for a dinosaur of this size, there is really only one choice, not so much of a prequel as an origin story regarding things. I would go with Metriacanthosaurus being a big, nasty dinosaur and having a troubled origin, lots of attempts, most were failures or died within months of being born. A very expensive process that led to very little results. In the end, a group of them were bred but couldn't be housed together as they got in to fights. The game warden before Muldoon then moves one to site B. Once on site B, it gets loose, not so much the angry super predator but the on the run dinosaur that is missing. Hammond has a Hammond like speech about him going after it because he was the one who wanted to send it there and now you got a Jurassic Park movie where the main island is site B, worker village and all meaning you could have any number of story lines about the villagers and this loose dinosaur and the chase and even have another Dodgson style event. You could have a lot of scary things but in the end, nothing really happens. Like in Jurassic Park 3, there doesn't need to be a real body count to make it thrilling. It would happen before the storm and the end result would be Hammond needing another game warden and whatever Dodgson's had up his sleeve needing to be redirected towards Nedry. I can't think of a better way for Dodgson to get some DNA or embryos than site B to begin with and having a couple people fly in on helicopter or by boat and trek through a jungle to meet somebody or steal something seems plausible. Any deaths could be swept under the carpet and you got yourself your dino movie with people, dinosaurs and an island. Of course, there are other less believable ways to get a Metriacanthosaurus Jurassic Park movie, have somebody drug one and steal it and have it go berserk in some bio lab somewhere and have Muldoon track it down and take it back afterwards.

In my opinion, segisaurus and plesiosaurus (which is a marine reptile) are much more cryptic. The segisaurus was seen nowhere except at the same scene with the metri embryo, but metria got his skull shown is JP the game as you can see at 1:58 while segisaurus didnt got any appareance, not even in a single game ! And plesiosaurus got shown nowhere except at the JW innovation center but at least got shown in some games like metri

I'd love to see it in a stand alone or two part movie run when news of the fall of Jurassic Park surely hit news outlets. Play it up in a way where it's some college kids that decide to up the ante on something beyond spring break, that none of them really believe that there really are dinosaurs. It's at that time when internet news was odd and inconsistent, and rumor sites could fuel interest in the college kids. Have them run into the first few other genetic companies trying to capture dinos or recover things from Wu's lab in clandestine ways. It could easily be in that two year span between 93 and 95 before Ian breaks the news to the public. It could also just follow a group of mercenaries sent in from a competing genetics group to get some samples and raid the remnants of the buildings, one of them perhaps being related to Muldoon who has a personal stake in finding out what happened to him. Perhaps a letter sent out from Muldoon to a sibling stating his concerns about how lethal and out of control things could get. (So this mercenary character is his nephew or niece). The Metriacanthosaurus could absolutely be the main opponent, but so could a new group of velociraptors who now know how easy it is to kill humans. Granted this starts to take a Predator movie sort of feel to it. :D

According to the Jurassic Park brochure the Metri. Isn't a threat to humans, considering it's highlighted in green. It's probably not very violent but on a starving island who knows.
