Hawks had a losing record with DJ and Trae playing together. DJ wasn’t an allstar, and SEVERELY overrated as a defender. It’s addition by subtraction. Needed lengthy POA defenders and we got one of the best at only 21. As well as two unprotected first round picks, one of which was the lakers who just barely made the playoffs and have an aging Lebron and nothing to trade. As well as Larry Nance Jr. a solid rotational big. Meanwhile the Pelicans got 3 players who all prefer shooting middys over any other shot. Good luck in that clogged paint Zion.

Just want to say Mike, as a Pelicans fan, I really appreciate the groundwork you put into this video. In defense of Dyson Daniels, he's one of those players you have to watch to really appreciate. His offensive game is raw, at best, but defensively this kid is a real stud. right and the 26 year old player who led the hawks to a conference finals that they had a chance of winning up until he was injured would be 31 by the time they were even able to use those draft picks on inexperienced rookies that could easily be from the back end of the draft considering LA is the biggest free agent market in the nba, not to mention that none of d-lo, rui, or the unplayable jhs fit or upgrade the hawks, or have legitimate trade value. so why exactly would dlo and rui plus two far out future first round picks that could easily be close to second rounders by the time they convey be more advantageous than a fantastic perimeter defending wing with offensive upside who only needs a good shooting coach going to a team who needs POA defenders and has a fantastic coaching staff for player development specifically with shooting, not to mention that the lakers pick this upcoming season could be mid lottery in a very deep, stacked draft, that fits the timeline of the hawks's best players in trae young and jalen johnson? you sure that the lakers offer was better?

Zion doesn't need to have the ball if you play at a fast tempo and have guys around him who can shoot the 3 and spread the floor. He can play off the ball and in the pick and roll if they can keep defenses from clogging up the paint. The Pelicans don't want Zion as their primary ball handler because when he's out that tanks the offense. They can do point Zion here and there depending on the opponent, maybe with some second unit guys when Murray is resting.
@scoa4 ай бұрын
@@Don-md6wn Maybe so, but also seems like Ingram and Dejonte aren't really the floor spreader type of players either. Ingram shoots like 1 or 2 3's a game, and Dejonte maybe like 2 or 3. Zion posted down low will take away some of their lanes and mid range space. Feels like an awkward arrangement.

Advanced tanking schemes from Atlanta Hawks. Interesting tactic 😂

They don't even own their own pick.

Hawks aren’t rebuilding . They are building around Trae. The fit next to Murray didn’t work because Murray isn’t good off the ball and he’s not the POA defender that make him out to be. Hawks now have picks in the next 3 drafts once again, filling the holes left from the initial trade AND added a lottery pick that is a big POA defender that can play next to Trae. Hawks aren’t as concerned with offense. One thing Trae Young can do is generate top tier offense. The hawks were better with Trae or Murray on the floor than they were with them on the floor together. Murray just isn’t the type of defender the hawks thought they were getting and now they got him and they have picks and the drafts they traded their picks in. Win for the hawks Clint Is 30 on the last year of his deal. You don’t get this package for that sort of a player . Hawks essentially undid the Murray trade and added one of the best POA defenders in the league on the wing. Hawks are finally doing what they need to do and adding size, defense, shooting and versatility in positions 2-4 . The only issue is that maybe Trae won’t have the patience to see it through.

Daniels fits better next to young and he is under rated , nance helps at pf/c and is not bad and they recoup picks that they gave to spurs so its not and F more like a c+ , B if they play well and those spur picks are late first rounders

The Hawks have been doomed ever since they drafted Marvin Williams at #2 instead of Chris Paul. Then they pass on Luka for Trae Young. Now they're shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic, because notwithstanding the one fluke Eastern Conference Finals, they're never going to win anything with Trae Young as a sieve on defense and dominating the ball on offense.

I like Dyson and think he'll grow at the hawks, but definitely not enough for Murray, and as capable as Nance is, unless they're moving either Capela or Okongwu, they've now got more talls than they need. Add on the 2 probably not good 1st rounders and this was just bad, so many other teams could've offered more.

This didn't age well. If the Pelicans would offer Murray straight up for Daniels I wouldn't do it If I were the Hawks. Hawks won this trade in landslide.
