For anyone that wanted to know about the trucks : Those are reverse kingpin trucks, typically used on longboards. But also those specific trucks are no typical at all. I think they're intended for carving but I know they were somewhat popular for long distance pumping ( a sub discipline of longboarding) The springs are not for shock absorption as Gabe seemed to believe, they provide the same effect as bushings: control the lean resistance and return to center . The roadside kingpin end (in a reverse kingpin truck) should always point to the outside of the board, so they had one pointing backwards. Also I'm not sure about the feeling of typical skateboard trucks, but on longboard trucks, a 30 degree angle (the one Gabe said he ordered) turns almost nothing, so that's why he thought they were wrong when the fact was that at first they were right (3:49). *Edit: as Dylan pointed out ( and later double checked myself), these specific trucks ( seismic g5), have to be mounted with the brand logo (roadside kingpin end) facing inwards. So I was wrong assuming these had to be mounted like a typical longboard truck. still they had one backwards.* A typical longboard truck is about 45deg. A turny carving truck would be about 50-55deg. In other disciplines you can see most extreme cases like a 0deg rear truck and a 55-60deg front truck. (the higher the degree, the most turn with less lean, lower degree, lots of lean but little turn)

They weren't. If they spent even 2 minutes actually researching anything they do they would have way better luck in videos. This specific brand/type of longboard truck is meant to be attached like a standard skateboard truck with the kingpins facing in. I literally knew nothing about them and found out that info in about 30 seconds on Google.

These are Dan Gesmer's Trucks. Pro flatland freestyle skater. Classic 80's competitive skating days. Dan is known for trying to integrate artistic style into freestyle skating, choreographing his routines in a way you might expect from Olympic ice skating. The G5s are designed as carving orienting trucks that efficiently return back the energy from a turn. There's also some of of that flatland freestyle energy in them with their efficient pump and ease/fluidity of movement. Led them to their share of success in long distance pump, slalom, and quite a few other high movement disciplines, but even some representation in competitive downhill. These are not kingpin trucks. On a normal skate truck the pivot axis is a virtual line running from the center of the pivot cup to the center of the bushing seat. Usually the kingpin runs somewhat perpendicular to this. On these trucks however, the pivot axis is the bolt. Its sort of a channel truck, but mostly is a style I like to call "Bolt pivot Trucks". They were pretty revolutionary when they came out, in 1993. But there's been a lot of development in trucks since so I feel like these tend to be cast to the wayside a little bit. Personally I've found them quite hard to build a nice setup that works really well with them, but there's some pretty incredible videos out there of riders who've gotten them dialed. One problem perhaps being experienced with these trucks in this video is the spring tension may have been adjusted too high, which limits how far the deck can lean and also how much the board can turn. I recommend a video by Dan called "Four Wheels Down" if you want to get a sense of what flavor these things are coming from.

There were two sets of riser pads; one on the truck side and one on top of the board. The pair on top of the board broke off. The holes were too big for the bolts so they trucks came off with all hardware and the lower set of riser pads still attached.

Trucks can vary quite a bit, but you should look at where the pivot cups are for the trucks, rather than the kingpins. Street trucks do have the kingpins toward each other, but even the “reverse kingpin” longboard trucks all have the pivot cups away from each other. The longboard trucks do this by playing with the angle of the kingpin, but they still preserve the orientation of the pivot cup.

Not sure how familiar you guys are with longboard truck geometry but to put it in perspective, most Longboard trucks have a 50 degree baseplate. Higher degree means more responsive turning and carving, lower degree will make you more stable at higher speeds. Downhill setups will be anywhere from 50 degrees down to 40 and sometimes even lower for your back truck. So i can imagine running 30 degree trucks when you're riding at like 5-km/h you're gonna have a bad time.

Ya the springs are for rebound, like bushings. Springs with higher rebound for lighter weight similarly to a softer truck bushings.

Yooo I have these on my longboard. I have 45 in front and 30 ìn back for better control. You need to break them in a bit before they ride properly too. There's also a way to adjust them to avoid wheel bite.

those are inverted kingpins, on those the nut or in this case what appears to be an allen bolt head would go towards the front and rear of the deck, allowing for a tighter turn radius on longboards

yo, i actually own a set of these and use a single one with a set of medium springs on the back of my distance board, i pushed the thing 135km or 84 miles in 12 hours, they are awesome as a pump truck and lots of guys run them as a rear truck on distance boards just so you can take a break from pushing and pump

THE trucks need ANGLED RISER PADS. They aren't made to sit flat on the deck. Front truck sits on a riser at a 35 degree and back truck sits at 45 degree angle. with a longer wheel base (LONGBOARD) those trucks turn like a sports car at 50 MPH.
