I’m not even Mexican, but that’s just straight facts. Also, winning a fight is winning a fight. Anyone even fighting 90 no-name drunks could’ve easily ended up knocked out on a fluke, even Floyd (unlikely, yes, but still not a certainty), but Chavez got the W in every one AND went on to win dozens more championship fights with relative ease. He was a real once in a generation fighter fersure. No argument

I had the fortune of training in the same gym that Chavez trained in Tijuana when I was in my early teens. He was already a champion and I was a kid. What many people don't know, is just how hard a puncher he was. Chavez never went for an early knockdown (he could), he was methodical, precise, and always followed HIS plan. He preferred to grind that body down before going for the kill. In the gym, we had a bunch of heavy bags, from the lightest to the heaviest. There was one bag, the heaviest one, nobody likes to train with that one because it was heavy, it would make your hands hurt. But when Chavez trained with that bag, he would make it swing like a piñata. Just huge devastating blows. The whole gym would stop and stare at him hitting that heavy bag. I am fortune to have been able to witness just how great he was. He was definitely on a level of his own.

Julio Cesar Chavez was one of the very best boxers of all time, and probably the best pound-for-pound fighter I have ever seen. He was surgical and precise, leaving his opponents bewildered and frustrated after only a few rounds. It always seemed that he could knock out his opponents at will. He reminded me of conquistador stories of Jaguar Knight Aztec warriors who could single-handedly hold at bay four Spaniards on horseback while on foot.

Chavez had further impact than that. There were a ton of people that cheered him on all over the world. As a Puerto Rican, I really cheered for guys like LaPorte, Rosario, and Camacho when they fought Chavez. When those guys lost to Chavez, I gave him props and became a fan of his style of fighting.

I can still remember watching this unbelievable and totally abnormal special talent destroying everyone who came his way, and what still Sticks in my mind is just how matter of fact and how businesslike he always remained,total unique and special talent that we will never see in the next few generations,and I'm so so grateful that I was able to live in his era despite being a very young man, the most ultimate and highest ever respect I could ever have for anyone belongs to this amazing and great man and boxer who I could never have any less respect for to a very small number of others

Chavez was my favorite fighter growing up. His fight against Meldrick Taylor is still one of my all-time favorite fights ever. I do agree that Taylor was winning the fight and Richard Steele shouldn't have stopped it with under 10 seconds left, but he said he didn't hear the warning. Taylor never recovered from that fight.
@GuerreroDelInfo

If the fighter can't continue, then the fight is over. You don't bend the rules. They wanted meldrick to win. That's where the controversy is and he wasn't up neither. He was getting pummeled.

Fun fact: CT scans discovered that boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. had a skull that was considerably thicker than normal, which perhaps explains why Chavez was able to fight for many years and in so many slugfests while seldom being affected by his opponent's punches.
