Totally agree! I would have refused to "fix" that girls hair. Freshly done and now what? Colour remover and bleach?! Sarcasm sign: Yes, lets go damage the hair, why not. If a mother burns her child with hot water or whatever, it's (very obviously) abuse. But the damage to the hair is not?! Of course it is. Physically AND mentally. It is SO obvious abuse on the girls psych. She lost her loved hair, and now got to run around with the hair she doesn't feel good in. That's just wrong.

I was born a bright red. My whole childhood was a nightmare with my name and colour. In my mid teens it started going white. Which toned me more to a strawberry blonde. Perming it finally got me closer to blonde and the white as highlights. Now I am old and just colour to my natural red for a pick me up and get accused of being "trendy". Makes me laugh every time. If I could only go back and tell childhood me that thousands of people would one day pay a fortune to have what I was born with.

I was born a redhead as well. And hated it as I was made fun of it in school so much. I longed to be a brunette or blond. I started coloring my hair an auburn color when it started to lose its red and more gray started creeping in. Now I get compliments! I guess it was meant to be! 😊

Me too. Born a medium auburn color turned strawberry blonde in my teens now I’m a dirty blonde with about half my natural being silver /white. I hated my red hair as a child the teasing was relentless. Now at 40 and as a hairstylist I have a whole concoction of a formula to get the color I was as a kid. I hate the dirty blonde plus them pesky wisdom highlights. If I could only go back 😢

I wish I could have met all of you when you were kids and told you that you have the most beautiful hair in the world. I know that sometimes redheads get teased as kids, so I now make it a point to compliment redheads whenever I see a beautiful natural redhead, especially children. I am dark blond according to hairdressers, I just call it mouse. Plus, I'm 60 and not turning gray. In my soul, I think, I am a redhead.

Duuuude, it is not just Moms. I had the most beautiful black cherry burgundy done in high school (about 15-16). My Father had my step-mom put box black dye from Wal-Mart on it and then made me go to her stylist (not my mom's who had done my hair up until that point) to strip it 2x and bleach/color it back to light brown (all done in one month). It was both the color and feel of straw after that. His excuse: You're going to get suspended because that isn't a natural hair color. Forget the girls running around my school with cherry slushie red hair that weren't suspended.

Mine was “burgundy” but depending on the way the light hit it - it would look pink or purple. Luckily my mom was there when it was done & ok’d it. My dad had a fit. He was in the military & wanted it changed. My mom said no it was expensive to get it done in the first place. Plus she said he was gone for 20-25 days of the month so he didn’t have to look at it much anyway. 😂😂

One day she did my hair the same as she always had but for some reason it ended up much darker. It took me a day or two to get used to it since I had never had my hair that dark before, but once I did I loved it. Ever since then my hair has been burgundy

I've dyed my hair with box dye in the shade intense red for over two years now I think. People compliment me all the time on my red. It's the same on the profile pic. Now I used a slightly different red that is a touch more orange and I'm dyeing it again soon a slightly more natural red. My hair is naturally a deep warm brown. But half of it is white. At 22. Long story short I used to have my ends lightened and dyed it fun/fashion colours. Then I had to cut it all off for my mom to do try and do the same thing. Except she chickend out as she's not a stylist of any kind and was afraid to ruin my hair. So I was stuck with short brown hair. Out of frustration one day I decided to use pink dye all over my natural hair. It was patchy and looked like a mohogany colour than pink. Then when asked to pick a box dye of course I went with the craziest colour I could find! If I have to dye my hair so it's not half white let me at least have fun with it! Btw I want the white gone. I don't like seeing my hair that way. It has nothing to do with standards but rather the way I feel. My goal is to one day be able to have my ends lighter so I can dye it fun colours and the top half my natural hair colour. But I know it's hard and expensive to acheive as there is at least a year worth of red box dye on my hair. It's quite short that's why. Edit: it looks so good because I have olive undertones. I was told it suits me really well by classmates who knew me with my natural brown hair.

I’ve been doing “rihanna red” (as I’ve affectionately nicknamed it) since I was in high school. My mom allowed me to experiment with my hair; even through my scene years. I JUST recently switched it up. I have blonde and dark brown split dye and I am obsessed with it!! Honestly I think you inspired me with your split dye. At first my mom hated it but now every time I style it she just goes on and on about how beautiful and cool I look. Pfft. Moms…😂❤

I spent so long trying to get my parents to let me cut my hair short. Like, 2 years working with my stylist getting it shorter each time. It wasn’t even color or anything “extreme” (for lack of a better word). Just short hair. Their issue was that I would look like a boy. That was the goal, but I can assure them that the haircut does not magically make people think I’m a guy, as I get misgendered all the time.

I went through something similar. I was 18-19 and living by myself because of college and I decided to dye part of my hair dark blue on my birthday. It was SO gorgeous, and I was beyond happy and all of that, but the moment I got to my parents home, my mom dragged me to the salon to get box dye over it. She didn't do it again because of quarantine and I didn't retouch the blue either so I spent months with what turned out to be uneven green parts on my hair, so it was a hot mess. After that I went through hair transition, so now I got curls (that I even forgot I had) and my hair grew out all of the blue dye, but I will not dare do anything like that again because I don't want my mom to lash out on me, plus I'm really scared of losing my curls. But if my hair was straight, I'd absolutely do it again and this time I'd try purple or burgundy lol

My daughter badgered me to let her go box black for ages. I said no, tried to explain how damaging it would be and how long to take it out if she wanted to change it. Anyway long story short, she dyed it at her dad's one weekend. After my initial, what have you done, i said do you like it. She said yes. I'm like okay, it's your hair. Within a few weeks she was hating it, but was definitely a lesson learned. She's suited just about every other colour she's put on her hair, from fashion colours especially a lovely green, except the black. We all need to learn by our own mistakes, otherwise we will learn nothing

I went from white blonde as a child to blonde highlights as I got older, then wanted to try going red at 17. Box dye, super dark, drained me of colour, but I still felt like it was good, until winter hit and my pale skin meant I looked dead. So I talked my mum into paying for highlights again, and was blonde right up from 19 to 27. Then I realised I'd wrecked my butt-length hair with a) box bleach and b) having my colour done in Serbia where the bleach was so strong it made my scalp bleed, and had it chopped off to shoulderblade length and dyed a coppery red. Took me a while to get used to new hair AND short hair (it's always been long) but it's grown back to butt-length, and I dye it with box dye about twice a year, as the copper fades into a gingery-brown that my natural roots just glide into. Between that and my spouse cutting my hair every 6 months, I possibly have the lowest maintenance hair my length that I know!

I hate hearing about parents forcing kids to have the hair they want them to. Your child is not a doll, they are a human being. In this case, it also sounds like this kid will be learning that you shouldn't accept change but should fight it instead. Not good. (Setting rules about when you have the choice to dye you're hair, sure, cause there are chemicals and costs involved; but let girls cut their hair short at least. Set clear rules for when they can dye their hair. Clear being an age or condition, not a vague "when you're older" that sounds like a never in disguise.)

Im autistic qnd i have sensory issues with my face and hair so when my hair starts to grow ans touch my ears or gets long enough to fall in front of my face it causes me so much anger that i ened up shaveing my head so that i dont have to worry about my hair for months.
