I had a pair blues and blacks when I was 6 years old, stopped wearing them when I hit JR High as too much gang activity, switched to BKs then stopped wearing when it became to dangerous to wear, people would get shot first ask questions later. Now I'm way older and rocking the black cortez. Always loved them, just not my parent at the time lol. And yes, that was facts, all the OGs would wear them, and they would ask who you banged when they see you wearing them or jumped on sight. MS, 18st, both La Mirada and the hoods, TVR and many others let it be known not to wear them if you don't bang.

I grew up in Highland Park, northeast of LA, in the '80s and '90s. It's not always easy now to tell who's banging. These kids now kinda look like everyone else. Back in the day you could just glance at a fool and you knew exactly what was up. Shaved head. Ben Davis or Dickies pants, baggy and creased. Nike Cortez. White tshirt. Pendleton if it was cold out. I was in Westlake at a 7-11 a while back and there were three dudes inside. The just looked like three young kids until I got in line next to them and saw their tattoos. Maybe I'm just old and out of touch.
