Here's my headcanon: Paul is actually mephisto in disguise. Think about it: the "One More Day" crap was more than just some random thing. Mephisto is actively trying to make spidey's life into crap because he saw a vision of spider girl kicking his ass, and is doing everything hebcan to prevent that. All of this - it's not real. Especially Vulture being able to beat Spider-man up, Osborn becomming "good" and Paul. None of this is real, and in reality Peter is still in "One More Day". He is still married. And he is in grave danger, and so most likely are his family and friends, trying to break Mephisto's hold over Peter's mind. Now that would make a great twist. As well as some revelation that Pete's connection to the Uni-Force is still there and is the true reason why Mephisto wants him, as it's important to the survival of the multiverse.

I dropped Spider-Man in 2017 when they destroyed Parker Industries. While I understood fan's dislike of the idea, I thought it had potential. Seeing them going back to "broke Peter living with his aunt-mother" was the final straw for me. The idea of Paul as well as everyone Peter knew and cared about was salt in the wound for me. The fact Marvel has dunked on Peter ever since because "Spider-Man can't be relaitable without him being miserable" has turned me off even more, and lead to me growing to loath the idea of "being relaitable", especially when to me, nothing Marvel has done to him makes him relatable in my eyes. I've never bought a Marvel book since (the constant dunking on Ben Reilly not helping either) and I doubt I ever will. Marvel got me into comics, but now a days I make sure to give my money to everyone but them, namely Manga. Make Mine Manga.

Mostly as I read The killing Joke by Alan Moore (Great writer) And how DC made the Three jokers storyline to.. reveal that Joker's Wife and Kid are still alive.. (When back in the 80's they were supposedly killed by "Accident" as the two Mafia guys wanted Joker to join them, in which he became Red hood and... yatata Vat of chemicals and became the Joker..) But the three jokers story line reveals that his Wife and kid are STILL ALIVE! (What a twist!) In which Alan Moore, was kinda mad... So.. I mostly stick with Manga's like Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue.. And Jujutsu Kaisen, along with Many others... As mostly the company's respect the Mangaka's Wishes...

Nick Spencer back in 2020 was actively trying to get One More Day retconned, and Joe Quesada had him fired for it. Can Peter just be happy? Not even overjoyed or living the best possible life. Just _happy?_ The writers refuse to give him even _that_ much because they want more "character development". But if your development is tearing down everything that makes the hero great and causing him to suffer so that he can "rise" above it for the umpteenth time then there's a problem. We _know_ Peter can overcome grief. He's already done this enough times. Instead of making Peter go through the same thing over and over again, have him help _others_ overcome their grief using his struggles as an example. That way you can show the effects of getting past your traumas without traumatizing Peter all over again.

I feel like an idiot for not realizing that this was linked to the phrase of "To Rob Peter to Pay Paul." And, to give the Devil His due, I think what Zeb Wells was trying to do was give Peter a villain arc by taking away that which was his only constant of happiness; i.e. Mary Jane. A few problems: 1. Doing it by having MJ just instantly dismiss all the romantic moments and times with Peter to go with this rando is some Motorhead levels of Whiplash. The sense in this argument feels so out of left field, that it gave the batter a black eye. 2. Mainline Spiderman isn't meant to be the villain. True, he's undertaken many conundrums in the past that have challenged his moral fiber and determination, but he's supposed to bounce back and spit in the challenge's face; A modern day Gawain. That's the charm: he may question and postulate, but never surrenders; building his resolve further. 3. This is just a lazy attempt to "subvert expectations." Seriously, if Wells was doing this to "Subvert Expectations," then he SURE subverted _something,_ I'll give him that. 3a. This is among those monents when writers think that subverting expectations makes the story automatically brilliant. Anyone who thinks with such shallow reasoning does not deserve a keyboard to write with or a pen to draw with. In truth, a subversion of story tropes can only work if you understand the characters, understand the story's usual beats, and understand and carefully apply exactly every move you make. This is because, if you do it slap-dashed and slack jawed, then you'll suffer a legion of fans calling for your removal and a justified black mark on your name to other businessess. Well, that would be the case if corporations in such a field actually read what their new writers made before. 4. Peter betrayed his allies WHY? They are Peter's friends, people that have fought with him, alongside him, shared victories, defeats, close moments with him. Peter could very well just walk up to them and go "Guys, some weirdo in another dimension stole my girlfriend! I need to rescue her! Can you please help me?" And they'd likely help, especially if the Emissary makes himself a villain in their own dimension... which HE *WAS!!!*

I absolutely HATE this "subvert expectations" trope in modern writing, especially when it is done to established characters like Spider-Man. We have been following his story for decades, we know who Peter is and he wouldn't act like that, ever! Also, Lowe confirms the idea we have that editorial does it on purpose for the sake of drama. No, Lowe, cheap, stupid drama doesn't make the story good, it angers your fanbase. But even then, Spider-Man still tops the charts. Haven't bought a Spider-Man comic since One More Day and I stand by my decision. Some fans will see that as giving up on the character, but I never support people who hate me or the thing they were hired to create for. I want the people who destroyed Peter Parker to go through the same suffering they put Peter through and that can only happen when the sales cause the writers to eventually lose their jobs. I won't pity the creators when they're on the street, actions have consequences, and with great power comes great responsibility.

How the fuck does Paul even have money, though? He's got no ID, no Birth Certificate, no Social Security, no job, no bank account, no next of kin, nothing. You could argue he got a life insurance payout from his dad dying, except that doesn't make sense either, since as I've mentioned he doesn't have any documentation, so there's no fucking way he could prove that he's Rabin's son. You might be able to argue that he's using MJ's money, but not only is that ultra-scummy, MJ usually works retail, and doesn't make much more money than Peter, assuming she still even has a job despite disappearing of the face of the Earth for a month, so he's spending money that not only can he not replace, but he actually can't possibly afford to spend.

Spider man is supposed to be a very inspirational character, many things go horribly wrong for the guy.. tragic but that is part of the beauty of his character that, despite all his struggles he upholds his responsibilities and pushes forward so that good things can happen to balance out the bad Spiderman writers flat out just forget about the good aspects of him being Spiderman, and focus more on emotionally breaking him apart to the point the reader just feels incredibly bad for him there's no inspirational feeling, we just feel depressed and hurt at what the writers are doing to Spiderman, it's even worse because very often we can see ourselves in Peter so whatever pain he goes through kinda links itself to us in a odd way, couple that with how the writers make their stories...they have the readers constantly feeling sad, anger, and rage on behalf of Spiderman that's why many of us would love to see him just snap, full black suit or just no longer holding back, because we feel as though we'd snap at that point he's in

I think Paul might be Mysterio. I always thought that if the guy ever got a hold of Doctor Octopus' virtual reality technology, the one that created Stunner, it would be a major upgrade for the master of illusions and there was that time where he and MJ did a movie together and what if he fell in love with her? I mean their kids seemed to end up being fake. He of course would need a big machine to do it, but it would be interesting if he also had a miniaturize version in his suit, or implanted, biotech, inside his head which would make him a tech-enhanced superhuman, when it came to battle if he was found out. One that's limited, but effective when it comes to fighting, but can also be used to remote control the big machine version which may have it's own limits since the kids vanishing may indicate that the illusion is starting to fall apart because reality is leaking in. I think Lady Octopus and her late father had some involvement with this technology. That virtual reality was effecting Peter and MJ's reality and it only seemed like 6 months or 4 years.

Peter is basically a Lamenter from 40K. For context the Lamenters are one of the few groups in Warhammer you could call "good" and no one could call you out on it. Yet at the same time they've suffered more from their 'allies" that their enemies leading many who enjoy the setting to wonder how it is they haven't gone traitor. Much like how Spider-man fans wonder how the hell Peter hasn't just gone "fuck it" and go rogue. He sacrifices his relationship with his allies and friends to get MJ back and the writers do...this. At this point Peter should just find Silk and not bother fighting the urges the two of them get when around one another.
