(india also has like 200 separtist movements due to how bad the central government treats them, from khalistan to nagaland to assam and the naxlites in the south) so this is well deserved when he calls the current state of india horrible

Yeah but you can do that in America because we care about our followers America then some noisy country that only care about image but not truth or its people. What's the to be ashamed of? So india is dirty get on to cleaning it. So india is over crowded? Get on to making the cities become more then just the capital. Move businesses and jobs around and people will follow it thus less crowds. It's not that big of a deal. Your india people cares too much about image then about your follow Indians. Maybe the trains are too crowded. Build another one see more jobs. No point in hiding it. Your sense of shame is holding yall back.

I agree however if he's truly a honest traveler. Empathy and Honesty are not synonymous. He's putting out his honest opinion of his experience. However he failed to understand to gravitude of what his video will do as someone who got catered too and to still say don't come. Should've had a bit more gratitude yet I'd understand why he would not take kind acts for face value. Travelers like him are treated better than the average visitor like us. Some because they want to give them the best experience or for the pride of their country town whatever. Others because he has greater status (He's white and American) and has money. You can't always tell who's your friend or just trying to get something from you. There's another honest travel blogger who popular for exploring the south America regions and he faces it everyday which is why I could understand why sometimes he could seem cold or cut off, but he always respected vendors and honest people and establishments. It was in fact the people having to warn him about the one's only seeking to take advantage that he really began to see through it. But you see how the people follow them and all. So I think yoy should keep that in mind.

There's a serious problem in India with food poisoning due to unsafe tap water and bad food hygene, and this is especially bad for foreighners who's bodies aren't accustomed to the bacteria in the area. Acknowledging that isin't the problem, the problem is that he whent around eating food that he knew would likely make him sick, had a great time, didnt even GET food poisining, and then gave the vid a overly negative clickbait title. All those ppl had such tasty food and treated him so well and then he showed that in a vid w a title about how he got food poisoning (which he also didnt, which makes it even worse). When I was in my late teens, I went on an student exchange to Hungary just after it had left the USSR (yes I'm old, moving on.) The poverty there was unreal and their currency so devalued that you could eat out every night at a restaurant for less than three pounds for a three course meal. We had local guides from the families of the students and they kept telling us off for not paying attention and getting scammed. Eventually I had to sit one of them down and explain that, even getting scammed, we were paying a small fraction of what these things would cost back home. I let myself get scammed because these people were so poor and I, a teenager with holiday money from my parents, had more than the seller would see in months. Let them scam me, let them get something nice for their families, let them eat well for a while. Who cares if I lost a few quid in the process? It makes me seethe to see these travel bloggers using a local in the way this guy did. The local put aside his entire day for this man, even paid for him in some cases and then the vlogger has the gall to say that he was scammed? He scammed that local man, he wasted his time. You can't walk around a place talking about the poverty and then be shocked when someone helps you out and then asks for help in return. I guarantee that the amount the local was asking for was less than one of those Patreon donations. (Which he showed over footage of poor children begging? How tone-deaf can you be?) Such a deeply entitled, colonial mindset. I really can't express how much I despise it.

Although I believe it's not advisable to fall for scams, even if the amount involved is small for you. By giving in to scammers, you're only encouraging them to keep up their fraudulent activities. You have to keep in mind that you're not the only victim; they may have also scammed other Hungarians who may not be in a good financial position like you. Instead of giving money to scammers, you could have donated or spent your money on food and given that to the needy. Please note that I'm from the Philippines, which is considered a less developed country. Although I cannot say that we are worse off than Hungary at the time you visited, there are still better ways to help the poor than by falling for scams. Also, it's impossible to change the past, but we can learn from our experiences and make better choices in the future.

Hi saji, im a muslim , and the part of the video where guftar claims that he is a decedent of our prophet is COMPLETELY false. He did absolutely no research on the cuisine, thinking that shit like liver and intestine from all sorts of animals were staple, when most people I know would not touch it with a ten foot pole. It was a stark difference from his Japan videos, where there was seemingly nothing he could even find to complain about... and I wonder if it has to do with how close Japan is to the Western world. I'll admit, I thought his videos mocking India and other poor South Asian countries were hysterical, until after the Hong Kong video, when I revisited and realized most of his so-called jokes are just blatant racism masked as an "honest, unfiltered review" of what he experiences.

Just to put this out there as a comparison, I am Colombian, SBA used to live in Colombia and didn't always say the nicest things about it (recently he said he would never return to Colombia) but it doesn't bother me because when I take a step back and look at the big picture I noticed some of the truths in his comments. As an Indian woman who has recently been traveling around the country, I've noticed that locals bend over backwards to help out (especially white) foreign people, while a domestic traveler like me only gets a fraction of the same treatment. There were lovely, helpful people but also an equal amount of people giving me unasked for advice when they find out I was traveling by myself or simply not being treated as well. I really don't know when that sort of worship will end but hopefully the friendliness and hospitality remain. In a related note, I am currently traveling in South-east Asia and I'm often the only brown tourist in some places. This is generally fine and locals have been wonderful so far but I had some (white) tourist come up to me and ask me if I worked at the shop that I too was shopping at. They get fat and rich while you and your children suffer and wallow in poverty. We can't do anything about it. It's not our place to intervene nor would we have any practical impact. You need to fight for your own rights and be ashamed that this is the standard of living your children are being forced into. Do you want your children to die of Hepatitis A or Typhoid? I think they deserve to be treated better by their society. If watching some white tourist have a bad time in your country makes you feel bad then maybe it's for a good reason.

I haven't watched this, and I haven't heard of either of you, and I don't know if that guy is racist. What I do know is my own experience, which was to try to visit India and experience its vibrant culture, architecture, and vegetarian food, and I ended up getting my wallet and almost passport stolen, having the hotel staff ask for a tip after I told him I got my money stolen, taxi scammers making a deal and then breaking it once they had me in the car, feces thrown on my shoes as part of a scam to get me to pay another guy to clean them, confronted by a group of feral dogs, confronted by people trying to rip me off, getting ripped off multiple times, getting food/drink poisoning even though I never drank the water, buying a "Coke" in a glass when the seller told me that I had to return the glass, and I realized that all of the glasses had "Coke" filled up to different levels, people coming up to me to beg at nearly every moment, people trying to get me to buy trinkets, people cutting in line to the extent to which you had to fight to move forward, unsafe driving, unsafe safety within vehicles, a tour guide bragging out of nowhere that he was cheating on his wife with multiple women in multiple cities, and he also took me to a place to buy things even though I only agreed to the tour on the condition that I wouldn't be taken to buy things. And the "international terminal" that I departed from only had toilets with hoses (no toilet paper), so I had to wait until getting into the plane to use the toilet. The people at the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple did get me a ride home for free after my wallet was stolen there, and there was a Sikh guy at the end who got me back to the airport without incident. This was New Delhi. You can call me a name if you'd like, but this is my "lived experience", so to speak, and I hear from media that that's important these days.

@Rationalific

@@Boilmyovaries I wrote about my experience. I never said that I generalized a whole culture. There are a lot of Indians who live in my very neighborhood outside of India, and they are fine, nobody is chasing me for money or to steal things from me. I eat food from the country (that doesn't give me diarrhea and major abdominal pain), etc, etc. You appear to have extrapolated from what I wrote and created other ideas in your head as to what I think, which ironically is what you at least purport to be against (that is, generalizing from one thing and applying it across the board in ways that it may not apply). So maybe you should look within first. With that said, I will still not go back. And the reason is obvious. There are many countries, I had the most horrible experiences from any country there during that one week, so there is no reason to even entertain the thought of going back. If you have a problem with that, then that's on you as well.

I'm curious about California but very hesitant to go somewhere like downtown LA. Poverty causes desperation in people. Most people should go to nice resorts, hotels, etc for travel (that's what I would do), the authentic travel experience thing should really only be done by people who are street smart/know how to maneuver in situations where crime could happen or where there's poverty.

It's not racism to say that India if polluted and filthy. People are allowed to criticize a government without being racist. Your government needs to invest more money in its people. They need to invest in their outdated train system (no one should be packed in like that, it's a serious health and safety issue). No one should be living with animals in the street like that. No one should be butchering animals in the street either. This is how Covid 19 happened. No one should be living in abject poverty with poor sanitation. If India wants to become a modern country then Indians really need to consider these issues. There's also the issue of violence against women and young girls. Women needs to have rights in a modern society. It's not racism to acknowledge these things about your society. I think it's sad that the man in this video does not care about the wellbeing of Indian citizens. He'd rather plug his ears and pretend that India is just fine or if there are any issues then "Colonialism is 100% to blame." Well the UK no longer controls this country. So if it's not "India's fault," that doesn't mean it's not India's responsibility to take care of its people. If that's your perspective then you must think it's the UK's job to 'fix it," which just sounds like "let's bring back colonialism" to me.

@@felixthecat2786 true hygeine is a huge problem here, but you can't generalise an entire country after visiting only the dirty and unsafe parts there should be a balance between the positive side as well as the criticism. It's like calling the entire USA homeless after seeing a couple homeless people on the streets and telling people "Don't go to the USA, the entire country is homeless and the people are rude!" We have a population of almost 4 times that of USA but the land mass is just one third of USA and we've only been an independent country for just 77 years although that seems like an excuse but yeah we're still a developing country. So basically the point is although our country still needs some work to be done, that doesn't mean that the ENTIRE country is just bad and dirty. You'll find dirty streets, unhygienic things, animals roaming around, the honking, the pollution but at the same time you'll also find amazing food (if you go to a decent place), great and diverse cultures, various languages, amazing architecture, beautiful mountains, desserts, seas, snow and so much more.
