Been 12 weeks for me, definitely have to do all exercises at home not just at Physical Therapy. Still in a lot of back knee pain. Any suggestions?
@MovewithDrMike2 ай бұрын
@ Thank you for watching! Hang in there ! You can still make a lot of progress at 12 weeks. There could be a few reasons why you’re still dealing with pain behind the knee. What I typically see is that pain behind the knee is usually present with individuals who haven’t restored full knee straightening. This is due to calf/hamstring muscle tightness and joint stiffness. Keep up with the stretching especially in a seated position if you can tolerate it. Wishing you the best!

Im here somehow for a LCL tear, love the detail I haven't seen elsewhere. I was on the leg extension machine in the gym im doing it wrong as could only feel the knee ligamants, hoping I could feel hamstrings, so this will help, thanks !

Thank you so much for watching! I’m glad you found this video and hopefully you can implement some of these tools to help you regain full strength in your knee again!

Thanks Doc! Will this help with getting better extension? I am struggling at 13 weeks post op, at 5 degrees currently.
@MovewithDrMike2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes this can absolutely help with restoring knee extension. Two reasons why someone might struggle to get full straightening of the knee is due to lack of flexibility in the hamstrings/calf muscles and/or weakness in the quadriceps! This exercise is targeted at building strength in the quadriceps (upper thigh) muscles! I'm 1 1/2 years post op TKR. The post surgical pain was excruciating for months. I'm still going for PT 3 times a week but had to switch from land to pool because of the pain. My surgeon showed me my X-rays and the knee replacement is perfect. I went for a 2nd opinion and had more sophisticated X-rays taken and the 2nd surgeon also said the knee replacement was perfect. I still have so much pain. My other knee is bone-on-bone and I am scared to death to go through another TKR surgery. Will be grateful for any suggestions. Don't know how much longer I can go on like this. I also have had 2 total shoulder replacements. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us all. I am very sorry to hear that you haven't received the outcome you've been looking for. Unfortunately everyone recovers at different speeds and there are so many factors that could be influencing why you might be dealing with more pain. I also want to give you kudos for still finding a way to keep moving and exercising even if that means you transitioned to pool therapy. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!

Do you do 3 sets of 10-15 reps every day for each of these exercises?
@MovewithDrMike12 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! This is a great question! You should aim to perform this amount of sets and reps at least 3-4x weekly! Wishing you the best!

This is one of those things where you dont need it at all, until you do. And then, youre Sooooooo glad that videos like this are available. Im 16 days out after left TKR, and thankfully, I have zero issues straightening my leg. Its the bending that is really giving me trouble. I reached 98%, (once) last week, which I feel good about, but There is so little strength in my left knee when its bent. Just soo unstable, I live fearing its gonna buckle lol. PT is great. It leaves my leg feeling like a droopy wind sock but so good for it. All of your videos have been a GREAT supplement to my exercises. Thanks for keeping me motivated.

Thank you so much for your kind words and most of all for taking the time to watch here! It means a lot to hear that they have been helpful in your recovery! Sounds like your rehab is going great and I know with consistency you’re going to start to feel more confident. This recovery takes time and you want to focus on the small wins each day!

I am 3 weeks post-op RTKR. My physical therapist has me doing these exercises and they are great. However, she doesn't want me using any added weight on the new joint yet since she calls it an open chain. She thinks I should wait until about 6 weeks before adding weight so the cement is fully set. Your thoughts?
@MovewithDrMikeАй бұрын
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! I would say EVERY patient has individualized needs and some people do knee to add some weight early on in order to progressively challenge their leg muscles. And for others no weight and closed chain would be more appropriate. At the end of the day it’s up to the patients individualized needs and exercise selection can be imperative to help one recover at a fast rate! Great question!

@@MovewithDrMike Thanks Dr. Mike. I appreciate the quick response and all of your informative videos. I have a significant varus condition so will be getting a LTKR within a couple months to have two straight legs! Do you have a preferred implant? Mine is the MAKO.

@movewithdrmike not to be envious, but not everyone has your quad mass. A jump up to a 7# ankle weight is not for everyone
@MovewithDrMike11 күн бұрын
@sherryskillwoman7491 I couldn’t agree with you anymore! This video is specifically for exercise demonstration and I agree that everyone will be starting at different weights. Some may require only 2lb to feel a challenge and others may need 5-7lb. Either way the exercise selection is key! Thanks for sharing your input!

How many weeks of these exercise will improve quads strength?
@MovewithDrMike2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! You will most likely notice improvement after 2-3 weeks due to neurological changes but it will actually take between 6-8 weeks to truly develop strength in the quadriceps! Hope that helps

Hi doctor, thks lot for ur videos. Iam 69yrs female, it's already month since I have done my right knee TKR ,I can't bend my knee when I am on bed but while sitting on bed I can do a little bit. Is it normal doctor, will it improve after? Thks doctor. I was following ur videos n I did the exercises my left knee is doing better which I done it's 3 and a half months.

Thanks for watching and supporting the channel! It really means a lot! And yes it is normal to have more difficulty bending the leg lying down vs sitting. This is why I see that many benefit from sitting knee stretches since it’s a little easier on the knee joint. Keep at it and please let me know if there are another other videos you’d like for me to make!
