I had knee replacement July 23,24 I am having issues with balance. I am still using a walker when I go out. I use a can in the house but I am having issues with my hip & arch in my foot. I do PT 2x a week. Plus I do my exercise at home. I do not go for walks because I don't have anyone to go with. What can I do to help this?

I’m 3 weeks in and I’m glad I turned in to your video not my therapist isn’t doing a good job with me. I learned a few things that I didn’t know concerning a walker which I went 7 days without my walker because the delivery for whatever reason never got it to me. Then when I finally got it I really didn’t need it

Thanks for taking the time to watch this one! Surprisingly standing can sometimes be more difficult for some individuals especially since it requires you to have great stability and control in the knee muscles to prevent you from swaying or falling over. This is why isometric training and perturbation balance training will be very beneficial for you. I’ll be posting more videos in the next upcoming weeks about this! If you haven’t done so make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss a video!

@@MovewithDrMike I suffer from severe arthritis in the left knee, Hydrocephalus in the brain, Atrial fibrillation (resulting in 3 strokes) and Peripheral neuropathy. I stumbled upon your video by chance hoping to find some relief to my issues regarding knee pain and the neuropathy. I cherry pick through your videos that pertain to these issues and put them into play the best I can. It's a slow and tedious process and at times extremely trying on my temperament and patience. By todays standards I'm not that old (75) and was in reasonable good shape. All that is different now and life is (at times) not worth the living. But I'm not a quitter and will continue to do what I can....as long as I can using you as a guide through this obstacle I 'm facing.

My right leg clicks a bit out to the right when I walk due to my spasticity (I suffered sids as a baby and diagnosed with hypoxia.) My walking is really well, it's just I feel tension/tightening on uneven levels/sidewalks. Does this exercise help ankle strengthening or is that unrelated to hip movement?
@MovewithDrMike

Thanks for stopping by to watch this one! I can’t confidently say that these exercises are going to stop the clicking but they do have the potential to help with ankle stability. Thank you for commenting!

Can anyone tell me about how long average recovery is? Gotta plan around fishing season so wondering when I can be back on the boat
@MovewithDrMike
@MovewithDrMike 15 сағат бұрын
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! With my experience I would say that it can take anywhere between 6-12 months for full recovery without feeling any restrictions or limitation. But you’ll definitely start feeling better after 3-6 months you just still might be dealing with some pain and swelling and sitting for long periods may not be very comfortable. Hope that helps you out!

Excellent video. One thing that is not addressed is which foot is dominant in terms of the step. I am right hand dominant, but LEFT foot dominant. That is to say that I lead off with the LEFT foot rather than the right foot. I am having a hard time convincing my PT that the LEFT foot connected to the replaced LEFT knee is a significant part of the issue of walking or stair stepping. Any Suggestions that I can share with local PT?

I'm 1 1/2 years post op TKR. The post surgical pain was excruciating for months. I'm still going for PT 3 times a week but had to switch from land to pool because of the pain. My surgeon showed me my X-rays and the knee replacement is perfect. I went for a 2nd opinion and had more sophisticated X-rays taken and the 2nd surgeon also said the knee replacement was perfect. I still have so much pain. My other knee is bone-on-bone and I am scared to death to go through another TKR surgery. Will be grateful for any suggestions. Don't know how much longer I can go on like this. I also have had 2 total shoulder replacements. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us all. I am very sorry to hear that you haven't received the outcome you've been looking for. Unfortunately everyone recovers at different speeds and there are so many factors that could be influencing why you might be dealing with more pain. I also want to give you kudos for still finding a way to keep moving and exercising even if that means you transitioned to pool therapy. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!

Excellent Advice!! I’m SO glad I found your channel! Just had left knee replaced today - all out patient - no pain pump- just oxy and Tylenol. I’m ok today but know the pain will start tomorrow as the surgical anesthesia wears off. I was elevating with pillows under my knee/ will change that to a wedge - I fear I’m the type to overdo and try to rush the healing process with too much walking- too soon. I’ll slow down and focus on good form.

I am 82 & had knee replacement surgery on 6/3/24. I did well in PT but after that was over I got busy and did not keep up wit it. Now my knee continues to be very stiff and a little painful. I am afraid more scar tissue is forming. Is it too late to do something?
@MovewithDrMike
@MovewithDrMike 2 күн бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch this one! Soft tissue massage can still be helpful even if you’re 4-6 months out. The key is to continue to perform activities that will help stretch and lengthen the tissues around the knee to prevent the knee from getting stiff. Soft tissue massage along with continued stretching can help achieve this!

I had TKR on both knees (done a month apart). My skin feels like my skin wants to split open in the surgical area in both knees. What exercise I need to do to get rid of that discomfort/pain? I can’t do my complete PT session without the pain settling in. Thanks in advance for responding
@MovewithDrMike
@MovewithDrMike 2 күн бұрын
Wow that’s incredible! Not many people can endure both knee surgeries at the same time! And the best way to make this discomfort and tightness go away is to continue focusing on stretches that will bend your knee to end range. This may be painful but just do the best you can to work on your exercises daily. It won’t be easy but consistency is the key. Hang in there because it will get better!!

I've had KR surgery in early September, just now starting to get a decent night's sleep. It takes time, this is ny second replacement, I had my left knee done a year ago. I'm a,side sleeper so a sleep with a pillow between my legs ( the operated leg resting on top of the pillow ) it allows the leg to remain straight. My Son is a PT and he insist I do squats to strengthen my quadriceps. And for me it is working. I wish everyone to be pain free as soon as possible because I know this surgery is NO JOKE!

I am at day 7 after TKR and the pain is just subsiding, my whole leg blew up and was as hard as concrete that left me in excruciating pain yet all the experts kept telling me I had to bend my knee😩 that wasn’t going to happen until all the fluid drained away, which thankfully is happening now after 4 days, I had epidural for surgery which meant I had no pain whatsoever and coming out of surgery thought this was great however when that wore off I had the self help fentynol machine which took the edge off the pain u til in the middle of the night they had to replace the empty but they did not hook it up right so o lay a small fraction was getting through as was picked up by change of shift nurse❤️👍 4 hrs after that they took me of it and put me on 2 oxycontin which did nothing to relieve the pain, day two go home and take panamax , but i’m still alive😂and pushing on.

Thank you for taking the time to watch this one and for sharing your experience with us all! Those first couple days always seem easier for many people until everything wears off! It’s very deceiving and I often have to remind my patients to take it easy and to utilize the first few days of recovery to get on track with their pain medications. I also understand that everyone’s recovery is very different and others may suffer from more swelling which can affect both their pain and range of motion.
