I declined physio after my knee replacement due to the aggressive behaviour of my physio. My knee was replaced on a Tuesday afternoon, I was discharged on the Wednesday with a recall to physiotherapist on the Friday some 60 hours later. When I saw the physio he put me in the knee slide position and told me I had to achieve 90 degrees. A 90 degree template was produced and my ankle was forced back to 90 degrees in a single rapid motion! The pain was tremendous, but more importantly that action caused the wound to burst directly over the patella. Consequently my clip removal was not undertaken until 3 1/2 weeks later as wound was still leaking. I am following your videos with great success and only a little discomfort. I can achieve over 100 degrees and can straighten the knee with no problem. As I write this my operation was 10 week’s ago without any physio intervention and was driving after18 days, walking without sticks achieved after 8 days, I am 72 years old. Most important is doing the exercises both before and after your surgery, a positive attitude helps!

I am 3 weeks post-op from my left total knee replacement. And I think maybe I jumped the gun a bit from the Walker to the cane. I feel as though I do walk with a bit of a limp. And I'm a bit scared and hesitant to put that full weight onto that knee. It's like this mental thing that tells me. Oh, I might break my knee. I am trying to focus on how I take my steps. Heel toe and walking on my tippy toe and just making sure that my foot extends beyond the good foods. But this is the hardest recovery. I've ever ever had to go through. Thank yiu for the tips.

I had total knee replacement on 11-5-24. I used the walker the first 2 days and I've been walking with no assistance ever since. I'm not in any pain at all. I've been to 2 physical therapy appointments and took 1 pain pill before each but can't tell that it does anything. The PT is totally amazed. Am I just different? Because it even surprises me that I'm not hurting at all.

I am 4 weeks after tkr, going well. Ok have stuck to the physio as recommended and have been walking 15 to 20 minutes at a time. I did some exercise before surgery and feel this has assisted me. One thing I would stress, take your pain meds, no other way to explain, this is bloody sore so don't be a hero and suffer.

This was absolutely the best advice I've read regarding what to avoid after knee replacement. These advices or admonitions are not available to read about in Sweden (in Swedish). 17 days ago I had surgery and have been doing great, now I'm cutting back on my pain relievers and the anti-inflammatory drugs but yesterday my walk with two crutches was too far. I am meticulous and follow my training program daily and I have also walked daily and increased from 2x400 meters to 2x3.5 km daily with crutches at a fast pace. yesterday I suffered a setback which means that I now have severe pain in my knee and can hardly move forward. I understand now that I have to calm down. Thanks for the good advice

I wish I had found your videos earlier after my sept 24 surgery ! I feel my doc or PT ‘s should have told me about all this massaging ! They didn’t tell me to use vitamin E oil until 3-4 weeks post op!!! Thank you . I hope this can still help me at 8 weeks out . I am still so tight , it kills me to go to 97 degrees flexion and my therapists are not happy with that double digit number . I was bone on bone and only at 90 degrees pre/surgery ..thank you !!!

Had my left Hip done on 11/1/24. The surgeon prescribed the RomTech Portable connect pedal device, basically a smaller version of a recumbent bike that uses passive pedal motion. I feel it was a game changer for my recovery, still going to PT once a week. My knee felt very limber after just a couple days. My biggest issue was night pain, my operated shin would be throbbing all night.

My knee is -15 degree from being straight. It's not the calf or the thigh muscle that's causing it to not straighten. Because my knee cap and the back of my knee hurts the most. The muscle doesn't even feel tight. My knee is extremely hard. A week after surgery my thigh was hard as a rock up to my hip. Went to the ER to make sure it wasn't a blood clot trying to form. Apparently it was something called muscle guarding. My thigh hurt worse than my knee. But now, as I mentioned it is extremely hard. I do all the things the PT staff has shown me and I do it at home as well. Still 3 weeks out from surgery and I have limited motion with lots of pain still.

Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch here! Unfortunately everyone has different experiences when it comes to recovery from this procedure. Some people struggle with straightening the knee and others struggle with bending. Regardless you want to find exercises that are helping you make progress along with ones that you can stay consistent with. Also based on my experience in the field it might be worth adding in some hip stretching since this can have a significant impact on your knee health. Wishing you the best!

I’m enjoying your videos and I wish I found them sooner but today is three months and the stairs I was able to do with the assistance of the handrail since the beginning but the operated knee all of a sudden is just hurting when I try to walk up the stairs, so I’m still with the handrail and I’m not happy about it because I want to be able to go up the stairs and down the stairs without assistance. I’m not sure why my knee hurts so much. I’ve been massaging it and even more so since watching your video and I do still go to therapy not sure what is wrong, but I did message my doctor today to see if he can get me in for another x-ray or something because I just don’t feel like this is Normal.

Thanks for taking the time to watch this one! And I’m very happy to hear you’ve been enjoying my videos! I appreciate the support! Congratulations on your surgery and if it makes you feel any better many of my patients are not able to ambulate up and down stairs without assistance at 12 weeks. The knee has most likely not developed adequate stability and strength yet but with practice and continued strength training this activity will get easier. The stairs are so difficult for many people because you’re basically transferring your entire body weight to one leg. This is not an easy task even for someone who has had no surgery at all. Stay consistent and don’t let the pain discourage you!

I am 6 weeks out, from my TKR. I think everyone should listen to this video. I am very fortunate that my therapist told me every one of these except keeping my knee straight. I already knew to keep my knee straight from the ladies in my swim class. I worked on keeping my knee straight as soon as I got home from the hospital on day 2. The walker I used for 2.5 weeks because it hurt my shoulders, and arm. I used 2 canes, and my therapist was very impressed of how straight I was able to walk.

So I have had multiple reconstructions. I have both hips replaced (Bermingham) Just had TKR. I would ask you this if you have such a wonderful product why are surgeons not on board with you? Their reputation is on the line yet this is not something they use? I am a walking injury and I could bang on all day I can promise you this anything you are offering is bullshit. The key to good recovery is to not push it keep swelling down and with exercise less is more. Tell me I am wrong?

I'd like to add the request that you not use background music or at least turn down the volume. Many of the people you're reaching are older people, many of whom may have hearing loss. Background music makes it much more difficult for hearing impaired people - even those with hearing aids - to understand speech. Aside from that, I appreciate the information you are relaying (but the music really gets in the way for me).

I feeling so good on the 5th day after surgery that I started walking without my walker and I did a lot of stretching movements so I injured myself, the next day I was having so much pain. Now after three weeks I am fine, I can bend my knee but the stretching is not as it was before because I am scared to experience the horrible pain in my fibula bone and around my calf. My advice is to take it slowly don’t rush it, everybody is different don’t compare yourself with other people.. Thanks for the great video! Good tip on setting front-foot placement. I have done tens of thousands of these over the last couple of decades, following ACL reconstruction in my early 30s and the other knee in my early 40s (basketball and beach volleyball) Now in my 50s I have become a bit lazy in training, so looking to start them up again. When I was diligent, I would use dumbbells and put my front foot on a balance pad or Bossu trainer, huge benefits for balance (but NOT the place to start) Also when diligent, the Bulgarian Split Squat, along with plyometrics etc., kept me injury free for more than a decade, not even an ankle sprain, playing 6 days a week. When I got lazy... the second ACL rupture ☹ For cutting, balance, and general performance, I think people will find these to be really great! Thanks again for the video!

I am 65 and had a total knee replacement on my left knee 11 weeks ago. I was discharged from hospital the next day because I was able to walk with the aid of a walker in spite of great pain. I did the PT right away and was brave enough to drive 2 days later with no problem although getting in and out the car is a very big problem. I could walk quite well without even a cane two weeks later. I was recovering everyday satisfactorily until the 5th week, the numbness on the outside of the knee and parts of the sole, swelling and the pain.... all remain the same thereafter. I can now bend my knee to around 105 degree, 115 degree with some effort and pain. I was told the goal is only 120 degree, not 145 degree like a normal knee. I can now walk reasonably normal although not too fast or for more than 20 minutes. The pain is tolerable with one pain killer. Although my doctor said I am doing very well, I know for a fact that some people will never completely recover. Two weeks ago I played some badminton and took it very easy. Still my knee would kill me for the next few days. I just hope that I could recover to 75 % within one year and forget about going back to the ball court or any demanding chores around the house. ps I lost 3 kg in a month and have regained half of it now. I do not drink but smoke almost a pack a day before and after the surgery. I have never changed my diet. I do not take any vitamin or supplements. I stopped going to PT appointment after 2 sessions. I do PT at home and the only equipment is an armchair.... You need a good leg in addition to a walker to support your recovery for a few weeks so try not to do both knees at the same time. I am glad I did not.
