Dont lie, you can increase your vertical in a short amount of time a lot. I started training my tibs yesterday and now I can jump over the backboard off vert at least 70+ inches thanks to tib raises

@@timothyalarcon9184yeah maybe twice a day is too much, the body makes micro tears in the body then proteins fill in the spaces, you probably not giving your body enough time to fill those in and recover, recovery, rest is just as important as the workout and work ethic so it’s good to break sometimes

There’s not much of a difference between my standing vertical and approach vertical. Should I just be doing approach jumps more, or is there something more general to do? For example, lifting or sprinting.

I struggle with the same thing years ago haha now I’m dunking with both hands and improved it a little. I can’t jump higher off of speed still but my two-three step approach is much better than my standing now. Work on your quick contact time jumps, your penultimate step, powercleans, as well as box jumps

@krisboudreau3475
@krisboudreau3475 3 ай бұрын
I think deep pause high bar squats as a foundation then u can do different partial ranges like box squats and pin squats. Quarter squats, half squats, parallel (powerlifting standard) and deep ATG squats. IMO every other day is too much, I think twice a week hard leg day is best and the rest of days rest or active recovery

John recommends 2-3 workouts per week per training cycle and 2-3 knee extension variations per training cycle. Does this mean that every workout should have a different "main lift"? Like back squat monday, front squat Wednesday and Bulgarian split squats friday?

Can you bulk up and gain vertical at the same time? I dont know because if i train hard 2-3 times a week on jumping and running i wont really gain much weight, but if i dont do that and gain weight, then i wont be able to jump as high.
@kyleanderson8670
@kyleanderson8670 3 ай бұрын
Depends on variables, if you are a two foot jumper who is clean bulking in a science based way, they definitely yes. But if you are a 1 foot jumper who is dirty bulking, you virt will temporarily go down a lot
@hugocerf.91

It depend on your actual weight and the quality of the bulk but « bulking » usually means eating trash and too much so be carefull if you want to maintain a good body composition My friend gained 5 kg in 2 month and it’s mainly fat wich is causing him knee pain as a basketball player

Love your videos, but you're wrong 50% of the time, or more. Tyler Currie can jump high while being so skinny. Those jumping Maasai tribes can really getup without any gym workout. In track and field, although they lift some weights, they have less muscles than you guys. Of course it takes training and dedication, but it's mostly all about genetics and body proportions.
@godofgamers3884
@godofgamers3884 3 ай бұрын
If you watched the video you would know they recognized outliers like that Sudanese guy Isaiah mentioned exist but they obviously aren't the norm. Maybe they have elite genetics so they don't need jacked quads to jump high but the majority of people need biggish quads to reach crazy verticals. And again if you watched the video you would know that they said that one foot jumpers don't often have jacked quads. Track isn't a two foot jumping sport so it makes sense why they don't have big legs especially the speed jumpers which make up the vast majority of high jumpers. But if you look at power high jumpers and long jumpers, they tend to have very muscular legs.
@godofgamers3884
@godofgamers3884 3 ай бұрын
Also claiming they are wrong 50% of the time is a wild claim. I find they provide literally the best information regarding vertical jump. I'm curious as to what else you think they're wrong about.
@musclelessfitness2045

@@godofgamers3884 How many jacked people are there in this world that cannot jump high? ... a lot. The majority of NBA players cannot jump as high, even though they train really hard. It's actually an anomaly that these dunkers can jump extremely high compared to regular people or most athletes.

You completely missed that John said it’s not just about muscle fiber size… it’s also about fiber typing, neuromuscular efficiency, tendon stiffness, rate of force development, and technique. Fiber size just increases the potential for force production. We’ve seen time and time again that when increasing fiber size, an athlete will dramatically jump higher when focusing on those other qualities later on in the year

So I will be honest these types of videos don't do it for me. I don't want to feel like I am in medical school. I don't care about technical terms. What exercises work that part of the muscle and don't say squats? I have noticed the highest jumpers are very defined in that area. Front Squats, leg curls, hex? It seems like every damn leg exercise I do only works the back of my legs
@VudrokWolf
@VudrokWolf 3 ай бұрын
Maybe you should try another approach, for example I do calisthenics with plyometric movements but focusing on slow motion and progression to faster movements through the session, a lot of isometric holds during the session to recruit muscle mass.
@Hensley_Jb
@Hensley_Jb 3 ай бұрын
This is how things truly work though. This is how the elite think and work. Just be simple if youre just starting. You shouldn’t be worried about minor differences like which type of quad work yet if you cant understand further complexities
