From what I see in the video John Daly is actually a kind guy. He gave all of the money he won ($6700 or something) at his first tournament to his mum (which she refused), gave $30000 to the kids of the golf spectator that got killed by lightning and owns a golf course which he has to pay for for $300k a year in which he lets people golf for free. What a legend.

The video doesn't even mention this, but Daly taught himself how to play golf. He learned his swing from instructional pictures of Jack Nicklaus in a magazine. The guy is literally one of the most naturally talented golfers ever.

As someone who played college golf, John Daly is probably the most purely talented golfer to ever live. He was on the pro tour just drinking, gambling, partying, not training, showing up hungover, with no sleep, and not only playing professionally, but beating the best in the world. Kinda a tangent but parents, do not do what his dad did by forcing him to eat the veggies until he feels sick or throws up! It doesn’t give discipline to eat healthy . It just trains their brain to have negative subconscious associations with that food.

@@kkandola9072 100%. I wasn't allowed to leave the table until I finished them. To me, at that age, it was like torture. I would literally gag and sometimes throw up because the texture and taste of some were so bad to me. Every time my parents would groan or yell that I was doing it on purpose to be dramatic, and that I still had to eat them. I'd have to lay down after meals with veggies completely racked with serious stomach pains. It genuinely was like my body was trying to tell me not to consume a poison. Turns out, I have an actual medical intolerance to cruciferous vegetables! Who knew that was a thing??? I sure suspected something was wrong!!! lol My parent's just thought they were doing the right thing. It never crossed most people's minds that you could have intolerances to certain vegetables, so it really was just seen as me being a defiant "picky eater". Same with gluten. I have celiac disease and gluten really messes me up. Always has. Back in the day, most people just weren't aware of it. I went to multiple GI doctors and they always just told me to avoid fatty and spicy foods. Pasta and broccoli was seen as something that would be really healthy for me. My whole life, I just thought I was a weirdo for having a perpetual stomach ache and brain fog pretty much all day, every day. I was confused that not everyone had to "recover" after a meal. I was nearly 30 when I finally decided to bring my suspicion of food intolerances up with a doctor. To this day, there are certain veggies that I just won't eat (in addition to the cruciferous ones) unless it would be seen as rude not to. I avoided most veggies like the plague as soon as I was buying and cooking my own food. The only thing forcing me to eat veggies did was mess up my digestive system and build resentment and skepticism towards my parents and everyone who waved off my somatic complaints as nothing but manipulative "belly-aching" and who said I was fine.

Bar owner here. We have an 86 year old man that will drink an entire bottle of crown, then come to our bar, have a few beers, walk home and get on a small deep sea fishing boat the next morning at 4am. It could use more. Again. Golf actually has a long history of wild characters, albeit no one quite as wild as John Daly. These players were all known for frequent antics or hilarious personalities: Lee Trevino, Jumbo Ozaki, Jimmy Demaret, Chi Chi Rodriguez. Probably the closest in terms of partying hard, gambling, and just being an alpha every day was Walter Hagen - "I never wanted to be a millionaire, just to live like one." Walter Hagen did so much to raise awareness many consider him the father of professional golf.

The word you're looking for is discipline. If he was more disciplined with his health it is reasonable to assume his performance would continue to improve. However it could reasonably be debated that his lifestyle allowed him the mental freedom and flexibility that discipline doesn't offer which allowed him to perform and live the way he did. It can also be a contributor to his longevity in the stressful environment that comes with that level of professional sporting and celebrity. Ive heard many times that golf is more of a mental and emotional game than physical. This lifestyle certainly lends itself positively in that regard.

Watching Asmon learn of the glory that is John Daly is something else. Keep em in the fairway, Asmon. If you mix lemonade and iced tea you get an Arnold Palmer. If you add vodka, you get a John Daly.

Just to clarify when john beat woods, he got piss drunk at the sfter party the night before. The whole times hes drinking, tigers hitting balls, doing workouts and would occasionally oass the bar, moving from his room to the wright room and thr course. Well everytime he would pass, daily would ask him to join. Of course tiger refuses. So the next morning, hungover, daily makes tiger think hes still drinking from last night. And the rest is history. What i find incredible though, is we all know, does talent doesnt beat hard work, but talent plus hard work equals greatness, and john daily disproved that with that tournament. The greatest to do it in our lifetime, all the talent plus the massive hard work and dedication, just to get beat by an unathletic drunk lmao. Truly shows john was either, blessed by god, or sold his soul to olay golf.
