The IDW series. But if we are talking about tv series, then I agree that the first 4 seasons of the 2003 show are the best. Not including the 5th season (not a fan of the mystics storyline).

The 2003 Tmnt series was great. Awesome action, likeable characters, cool storyline, and great designs. Now full disclosure, i personally didn't mind the Fast Forward and Back to the Sever season, i can understand why the tonal shift alienated alot of fans.

2003 TMNT is my all time favorite version of the turtles! I grew up with it and watched it as a kid! And I honestly don't hate the Fast Forward and Back to the Sewer seasons unlike most fans of this version! They're really nostalgic as well!

@@jurassicsmackdown6359 I hear ya but I think the TMNT 1987 was okay......until season 3 started then it was all downhill from there then animation got worse and voice actors started popping in and out because of scheduling issues it became an absolute mess I still remember reading about it in like 1998 in one of my uncles magazines

I think it's the best Mirage adaptation. It also takes some stuff from the original movies. It's got great story continuity and character designs. I think if there's a problem with 2003 it is that the Turtles are a little 'samey' with their personalities.

This is a great Turtles series. I wish I could get the whole series on DVD or Blu Ray. I have the 87 and 2012 series all on DVD but not the 2003 series.

Personally don’t like how long the episodes feel like they drag out. Makes it very boring. But I’m glad people enjoy it!

To this day, the 2003 series *REMAINS* my all-time favorite adaptation of The Turtles. This was an adaptation done _right._ It drew JUST the right amount of inspiration from each adaptation before it and perfectly implemented it; the headband colors and personalities from the 1987 series combined with details and quirks from the 1990's film, (Raph's "tough guy" persona). I'm glad they dropped the whole news reporter angle with April, though. I'm ALSO relieved that we never got a new Rocksteady and Bebop in this series. It always irks me beyond belief when I hear of people wanting elements from the 1987 cartoon to be shoehorned into a TMNT property. 🙄 Like, just go watch the 1987 cartoon if you are THAT nostalgic! Let's see something NEW for a change instead of the SAME OLD THING all the time, *GEEZ.* Truth be told, I couldn't even finish watching the _Fast Forward_ series. It was absolutely HEARTBREAKING to me, seeing what this once great series had devolved into. The Turtles themselves had become mere caricatures of themselves by that time, and I didn't even recognize April. The animation was starting to look like something off of _Batman: The Animated Series_ or _Justice League: Unlimited_ or something...which was another thing I hated. (I REALLY hate this minimalistic trend in animation.) The animation as well as the mature storyline in the 2003 series was the BIGGEST reason I loved it. I understand that towards the end (going into _Fast Forward)_ they wanted to "kid-ify" things to try to keep that gravy train moving, but apparently that didn't work out too well, considering that it was eventually cancelled and had to be rebooted a few years later, anyway. Everytime a "new" adaptation comes out, I hold my breath. I'm afraid it will be CRAP but also afraid it will be GOOD, because even if it starts off good, it will inevitably wind up going the way of _Fast Forward_ because some exec will see dollar signs in kid toy sales and merch. Then it's something we the masses will be stuck with for the foreseeable future until a "new" adaptation is made. And let's face it; even if it's "bad", all the studio has to do is cram in a few 1987 references and most people will be sold on that nostalgia bait alone. 😩

It is my understanding that it was Playmates that forced that "simplification" into the show. But by doing this they probably lost the audience the show already had (in favor of a younger audience that wasn't watching the show). I finished watching Fast Forward like ten years after I stopped watching the show (I stopped with the first episodes of fast forward), and I have to say that, isolated from the rest of the show, it's not so bad. But there is also a lot of wasted potential in the concept.

I hate that this series is impossible to find in brazilian portuguese anymore. It's my favorite TMNT series and doesn't exist anywhere anymore. And I've been searching for more than 10 years.

I'm so sick of people judging every iteration of TMNT on whether Bebop and Rocksteady are in it. They're just characters, they'll probably even change how they were created and since when did they have a personality beyond 'Dumb muscle' anyway?

Probably varies from person to person. I think you could skip season 6 and 7 and jump directly into Turtles Forever. I did that in my original viewing of the show. But I later found seasons 6 and 7 to be watchable. They are just lighter than the rest. Give season 6 a try, if you don't like it, you can jump to season 7, if you don't like it, jump to turtles forever :)

Honestly if it wasn’t for the last two seasons of this show. How the fans who loved the 87 series felt like this show. Went too far from their nostalgic cartoon. Along with the stiff competition from the 2012 cartoon that loved the 87 show; aka making 80’s kids like that show as well. I really don’t know why anyone who wouldn’t like/love the 2003 show the most. That is unless anyone didn’t like TMNT in general or like ROTMNT the most.

I felt that Laird’s utter disdain for the 1987 series (which made the franchise in the first place) was so apparent that it kept viewers from enjoying the 2003 series. (Sequential storytelling didn’t have to mean emotionally draining or thematically exhausting.) I can respect any artist wanting to protect his IP, but at the cost of alienating the kids that paid his bills? I loved the long-form storytelling, but it wasn’t X-Men or Gargoyles at all. The humor or pacing that would give the drama some room to breathe was all but gone. I turned 39 yesterday, and I feel that the 2012 version was the “best iteration.”
