Love your vids Jack! These were my Dream Animal, till almost 5yrs ago when I had a chance to buy a trio, captive bred and born, all from different parents. They will be 5yrs old in Nov. I will try to breed them in the spring after they come out of Brumation. No, I have never taken a bite! Very careful when handling. My female seems to know her name, comes running when called and waits at the glass, and runs into my hands where she settles in. Thanks Again!

It appears from your experience that they will only bite YOU when frightened or needing defense. Possibly if you were hand feeding without tongs a bite would be more of a possibliity. I hope your animals stay healthy and they have successful reproduction.

For those of you wondering why he didn't take a bite- they are a threatened species. Aside from that, Jack is not afraid to take a bite. Before everyone gets bent out of shape, I also understand that Jack is educated on the dangers of how different venoms may affect people. Jack wants to educate us on all the species he shows, but if you've been watching him for a while, it is obvious that his main goal is conservation

Thank you for the fun and educational adventure, Mister Noble Lord Majesty Jack, sir. This is one critter that deserves the dangerous reputation I grew up hearing, even though it’s not a monster out to get people. So it seems that venom mainly for defense focuses on pain a lot more, where venom for predation seems to focus more on shutting down prey. Is that generally the case?
@JacksWorldofWildlife3 ай бұрын
Generally, yes!

I found one of these in 1984 that was like 2 ft long. Must have been the great-grandma of all Gilas. I also witnessed one about the size you have here fight a western diamondback. It grabbed the snake about 6 inches behind the head and the snake emptied all its venom into the Gila. The snake was dead in about ten minutes. The Gila let go about 5 minutes later and walked on.
