As a Verizon Sales rep we definitely sell the Z-flip a surprising amount. It's a combination of factors, first and foremost is the pocketablility. Women's pants just don't have large pockets so it really appeals to women specifically in their late 20s-early 40s. Beyond that the pricing is good, $1000 is only $200 more than the standard s22. Also foldables tend to have better promotions available from carriers. Personally I had a Fold 3 for 2 weeks and ended up returning it because it was just unwieldy, a flip would have fit my lifestyle far better as it is a much more manageable size.

I'm actually surprised how much I use the tiny screen, especially for music and notifications. Also, the whole design weirdly makes me feel less distracted by my phone throughout the day. Using it "camcorder" style is also pretty great for recording longer things, it's far more comfortable than a traditional phone. Reading while at a table is also more comfortable, no need to prop the phone up or anything, can just bend it for a nice reading angle. Same goes for video calling. I also always have an issue with my phone screens getting scratched up in my pocket, and it's basically impossible while folded. It is admittedly thicker in the pocket, but it also feels less likely to fall out due to it's smaller size. Normal phones like to fall out of my shorts all the time, this one has yet to come close.

It's just fun to fidget with sometimes too and the camera tripod mode has been incredibly useful on many occasions

Having a flip phone with a small notification screen helps reduce screen on time A LOT. Also helps with focus. Also when folded and placed on the table ur now worried about the screen. The compact form factor when folded means it fits in ur pocket or small waist bag when you are out for a run, workout or just a walk around the park. Holding it folded when making payment via samsung pay is definitely more convenient thatn hovering a 6 inch phone with the screen all exposed when tapping to pay, it fits snuggly in your palm and no one can even look at the small screen behind ur hands. Taking wide angle selfies, group selfies with the main camera while the phone is folded when you are out on a trip with family and friends, the phone fit snugly in ur palm, 1 handed, and u can snap a photo with voice or palm detection, no need to fumble with a selfie stick or a 6.7 inch slab using the selfie camera which is much lesser than the main camera, or trying to use the main camera while guessing ur shot. Not to mention step by step navigation from the cover screen, which is so convenient while walking, riding or even driving, its something u can fit snugly in the palm of your hands, instead of lightly holding a 6 inch slab which can easily fall off or snatched. OMG there is SO MUCH advantage to this form factor. There is a reason why its becoming popular.

Thicker phone in this case, can mean it can push onto the body more and it would also push heavier in a smaller spot. For jeans it's probably better, I don't know. Jeans are so stiff, would never wear such things. Some have mentioned smaller pockets on women's clothing. I have never paid attention to such a thing, so I don't know. To someone ignorant on the subject, I'd just buy "men's" pants if that was an issue. Why buy an expensive phone instead? The more surface area, the more it's distributed in other areas. We techies tend to forget that majority of the customers don't really care about the performance of a phone - that is, in terms of highly demanding stuff like gaming - most of the people would get a phone that looks good and takes good photos. Aaand in terms of pricing, most would get their phones tied to a plan, instead of paying full price from the start, and many of the carriers have varying prices, so the inital MSRP wouldn't really matter to quite a lot of people.

His bias made him unable to actually look at the product with any critical or understanding eye. Why not the next time you have a very popular product to review and the reviewer "doesn't get it" - Stop. Zflip 3 user here. I'm not a women who puts it in a purse, and I'm not someone who holds it like an older camera. I'm a guy who barely uses his phone at all, and carries several things in my pockets every day. When you carry an inhaler, a big ring of keys, a wallet, and emergency allergy meds in the same 2 pockets every day? The full size of a standard iphone with a case becomes shockingly cumbersome. So Samsung's flip design actually helps a lot for my needs, allowing me to carry my phone with less vertical space taken up in my pocket. Plus, I have zero interest in mobile games, and never use my phone for watching media. The most I ever use it for is taking notes, using my calendar, and making phone calls. But on the rare occasion that I am browsing the web with it, it feels very nice to set the phone down and CLOSE IT. It is not there to invite me with notifications, and it is not a device extending from my hand. It's a thing that is flipped shut and put aside. And because I don't play games on my phone or anything, the battery lasts for several days before charging, even though most reviews claim it "can't last half a day". Those reviewers must be addicted to their phones or something. The battery is great when staring at facebook isn't your life.

Yeah thinness is what matters for stuff in your pocket. It's why so many wireless earbud cases aren't... great. They're shockingly thick and apple actually did a good thing there. exactly the flipping just makes it a big rock in your pocket. a normal phone is so much better for pockets.
@sebastianjost2 жыл бұрын
100% agree on many wireless earbud cases being way too thick. The problem is that most phones have gotten so big that they don't fit into pockets anymore. Especially women's jeans often have really small pockets, where modern phones stick out by 2-5 cm (1-2"). But there are also plenty of other pockets where you might want to put a phone, but can't because phones have gotten too big. The Flip series is certainly not as elegantly thin when folded up as many other phones, but at least it still fits inside pockets without sticking out. I'm sure that is why many people buy it.

Alternative Title: "Riley judges the most popular foldable, and the people that use it." - Harshly.

I appreciate the honesty about the thickness and flipability. Sounds like a nitpick, but with how much we're used to the smartphone slab, you gotta convince me (and others) to get accustomed to a new feel. If you're to do the clamshell design, old flip phones had the experience just right imo.

This was such a bad video. I get that it is a first impressions but to not even know the most basic thing like can you answer calls on your phone with the screen folded. Ltt should be better than this. Riley was such a bad choice for this. I get wanting a new perspective but getting someone who is approaching this with the mentality that this is stupid is wrong.

A sad, sad day when Riley got a sponsor segment so clearly intended for Linus.

What an awfully hosted video. We get it, you don't like it. I don't understand why you would get someone to do a video like this that so clearly loathes the form factor. Also seemed woefully unprepared for the video, which makes sense given his opinion on these devices. Honestly felt like a very disrespectful video. I don't have one either, I would never get one, but I understand why people would want one.

Not everyone has big pockets like this guy's shorts. Women have exceptionally smaller pockets on their trousers or Jackets. And yes, the fold makes it more portable for bags or purses
@Azarilh2 жыл бұрын
Riley, really? Did you forget that people are not all named Riley? Ya know women's pockets are so small that smartphones sometimes don't even fit? Ya know that some people prefer keepin their phone in the bag, where a flip phone might fit better? Just sayin... 2:35 minutes in and already i have to stop because of the "my experience is the only one that counts" vibes.

Thank you, finally a honest review. In the past ppl complain about weak materials when the phones were600-700 dollars, $1000 with weak battery, weak glass screens, no water/dust protection

Women don't have good pockets. Flip goes in waistband, purse, short pockets, etc. Get a woman to try it and see if they have a deep pocket or not

Most people buy the flip for flex mode. It's incredibly helpful for use with the cameras, watching video and multitasking. I sure as hell didn't pay as much as I did for my old flip 5g just so I could fold it smaller.

I hope Riley doesn't use an iPhone, or his complaint about headphone jack on a foldable goes out the window.
