Am I getting old or is the tech getting too much now? I feel the entire car has been designed for the tech rather than the luxury feel of the car. I think if someone were to Restomod a 600 Grosser it would have a more exclusive feel to it.

I agree, quality materials, workmanship, and understatedness aren't as important in German luxury cars. Volvo is less showy, and Genesis is a lot like the older Mercedes. Lexus is similar to Genesis but seems to have a smaller R&D budget.

One thing the track screen options do is sanction the high top speeds. It is saying to the driver (and passengers) that there are designated places to reach the limit of what this beast can do. But this car fits on public roads the way that Thomas’s legs fit in the back i.e. not quite.. I think that reserves of vast power and performance are an important part of the luxury ethos which this car represents.

The asymmetrical, stand alone lidar sensor just hanging on the front grill looks really good on the car. When presented like this, there's no need to integrate the sensor into the emblem or have another sensor to balance it out like Audi does on their grill.

I have a Tesla Model S refresh and I have the choice between Fob, key card and phone and I must say, I use my phone to enter the car. It’s just so easy just walking with my phone and having the entry on approach. I would say the A8 has some catching up to do with the BMW and Mercedes.

I dont like lights and screens while driving. Especially at night. Stressful for the eyes. I watch enough screens already. The instrument lighting in an old w126 was perfect.. just a soft relaxing yellowish glow with black background. Never irritating.

I don't understand. That design feature of the back of the window aligning with the center of the rear wheels applies to every mercedes sedan, I believe. I don't see anything unique to the s-class about that . Am I missing something?

It’s such a beautiful machine, but is in many ways let down by how closely the C and E classes are to it, especially in this current version.

Trying to figure out why they build such a car, you're never going to track this car, if you want a performance car to carry a few extra people the driving dynamics will be better in the C63 or E63, if you want pure performance then get a 2 seater. Most of the owners of S classes are north of 60 and if they are carrying their friends in the back and accelerating to 100 in 3sec I am sure there will be sore necks and barfing going on in the back seat. This car will be anything but smooth, with all that horsepower and torque it will be like a bucking bronco, isn't the S class a luxury land yacht or to be chauffeured in? I don't get it, maybe I'm missing something.

You honestly should talk about the tactile quality of these cars. The cabin and quality of materials. I found that these luxury car brands are cutting costs like crazy. And it shows in the hard plastics and poor quality of fittings in general. I sat in an EQS yesterday.. Shocking the feel of the interior fittings! The back seat is Suoer uncomfortable. The actual seat is so short. How can anyone be comfortable over a long distance in such a car. The central armrest... Put your arm on it to rest and it squeeks like it's going out of fashion. Listening to that during a drive will drive you nuts. The feel of the door handles to open the door.. Poor quality.. What happened to that Bauhaus build like the GWagon? I see the same with Audi lower end models now. The quality is poor. You get some sense of quality in the more expensive models but overall there is a marked dropped in quality. Please make a point of taking about this. People just seem to accept this these days/ nevermind the amount of money they pay. The CLS Merc feels good. The Class feels cheap. The E Class not much better. The GLS is an utter waste of money for what you get. The EQS is such a poor design an dtbe quality is just shocking for the price. This SCLASS might be better.. But have anyone seen how the center console moves when you press against it.?? The buttons areike those on a budget car. If you want to car that feels solid, look at Lexus, or the 8 series BMW. Cabin fittings look and feel as if their is some money behind it. In short, Mercedes have poorly build cars with poor quality cabin fittings. A squeek fest. CLS and GWagon best of the lot.. BMW, better overall build and cabin fittings except that 2 series car. 3 series a tad better. The best is the 8 series. Audi, stay away from the A3. It is like a Polo in thers. Hard plastics and scratchy fittings everywhere. It is much worse than what it used to be. Best is the A7 and A8. By far. The Etron looks fantastic however it also is not the best in quilty fittings, but a wonderful looking car. Lexus... Stunning build and great materials. Good plastics.. Without you thinking it is molded from recycled barbie dolls. The ES 300 is solid. Tbe LS 500 is stunning. Great build. Volvo S90. Better build than this SClass.

Why doesn’t the chrome on the bumper match the line on the wing, above the lights? And I can remember when Mercedes’ were elegant and understated. They were the best but didn’t shout it. These modern versions…no class at all.
