Josh was not a pre-teen. He was 14 and 15 years old when he molested 4 of his sisters and another girl. The youngest was 5 years old. That’s important to remember. This was a teenager who knew better preying on a small child who was raised to believe in the patriarchy and to respect to eldest brother.

neuftet I've read quite a few studies that said a juvenile, 17 years old or younger, re-committing sexual abuse as an adult is very low (somewhere around 9%). It doesn't excuse Josh's molestation on his sisters and the other girl; I just want to share it doesn't mean he is a sex offender as an adult.

If you read the police report, Joshua was 14 or 15 when he molested his sisters when they slept. This abuse included a five year old girl. He tried to touch one girl in the laundry room and she freaked out. His parents' response was not to get him psychological help but to send him away to some kind of work/prayer camp--it might have been a friend's business. Anyway, no one got help for Joshua's abuse, not his sisters and not Joshua.

Oh my gosh. "Taking my parents' faith as my own" doesnt mean she was doubting her faith... It's a common phrase used by Christians when a kid stops just taking their parents word for it that God is real, and they start to believe it through their own experiences and studying. Joey Short furthermore, I don’t think religious teachings can really give everyone (some, not all) a strong moral character. Teaching children that “you don’t hurt others because you should consider how they feel, and the harm you can cause them” is vastly different from saying “don’t steal cause Jesus says so”.

Seriously, look up the Quiverfull movement. It's a religious cult mentality that encourages abuse, both mental and physical that discourages questioning of parents and instills fear at a very young age. The level of abuse endured depends on the family as does the emphasis on education. Most hardcore followers don't view a woman's education very important when it coms to high school or college. Any mingling done outside the cult mindset should be avoided, but if not, carefully monitored. This is all classic brainwashing.

I am a Christian. I attend an old Roman Catholic Church. Being born out of wedlock is not a sin! In fact there is nowhere in the Bible that says that you have to be legally married to have a child. If you think about it back in the days of Jesus Christ there was no marriage license office to attend. Back in the days of the Bible people devoted themselves to each other. So marriage is more of a spiritual ceremony. Having a marriage license is a part of our government! So having a child out of wedlock is not a sin.

To be fair, it seems that Jinger’s “bad deeds” is really just a reference to the depravity of man. Yes, she had sinned, but she seems to be speaking of a salvation point of view as her reference to “I can’t get to Heaven by myself”(or whatever she said). Honestly, sounds like she’s talking about getting saved and coming under conviction by knowing that she was a sinner by nature. :)

If you watched the episode where Josh was singing his commitment to Anna you would cringe on the spot, it sounded like bullshit and as we know now it was bullshit

When jinger said she can't get herself to heaven. She's right! No one can! I am a Lutheran and we believe that Jesus died on the cross for us so that we would no longer die to sin. If we believe (through the holy spirit of course) and are baptized we are saved! That's it. We also believe that we should live out our batisim daily, and that we should serve our neighbor, in so doing we are glorifying God. But we should always remember that there is no "working towards heaven"

Are they really Christians though?? They need to turn to God in times of trouble and really lean on Him and allow Him to be the center of their lives

Love the modification of the breakdown story that doesn't make it sound quite as horrible. Let's also add that "the strength of God" told her to create a buddy system in which her four oldest daughter's each had total responsibility over 3 of their younger siblings. Oh and that AFTER the laundry room breakdown she had like...10 more kids because it got a lot easier to do that list of stuff when you figured out you could delegate it onto others, take the role of CEO, and tell them it's what God wants. Couldn't handle it....and had more to divide her own work load so she had a team to each take over one of her small tasks and she could just worry about getting knocked up again. I'm pretty sure just because you birth slaves and didn't buy them, it's still slavery.

I realized I needed a Savior when I was 13. What bad deeds had I done? Basically what every kid has done. Disobeyed my parents, told the occasional lie, was disrespectful. The thing is, in God’s eyes, sin is sin. Jinger was absolutely correct in what she said. There will be scoffers, but I know that Jesus is real.

We were in the same homeschool program..and a the same ATII conference.(s)...and never paid to hear anyone and never paid to hear them....and they were treated like anyone else.. vice versa.. Sin is sin..sin in a larger family is the same in smaller families.. confessed sins bring a blessing to everyone because it releases you from the "secret and shame" I never watched the show and I never read their book..because I was just too busy..

When a person realizes they have sins it's not merely that they think their sins are bad it's from comparing yourself to how holy God is and what He expects of us. COMPLETE holiness, purity and perfection. Which one of you out there can get to that high standard all by yourself? I asked God to forgive me in that "intense" way as a preteen. 41 years ago. People so often comment, "you're so sweet and really, how many sins could you have committed at 12 years old?!" But If perfection is the expectation and even hating someone is considered murder in God's eyes, I knew I was going to need some help in the forgiveness area. And it IS very intense. Because someone had to die so my sins could be forever washed away. And when you figure out that's what Jesus was doing on that cross, dying as a sacrifice so He would take my place. ... Let's just say I accepted that forgiveness He offered me for free and I've loved Him for doing it for all these decades. My fear of death AND life is gone. Maybe you should talk with Jesus and dump your sins and fears too?! My original prayer was short and NOT fancy. But I meant it and He accepted it.

It’s hard to believe that Michelle and Jim Bob went ahead and decided to film their family anyways, and put them under the microscope after they knew that they had a predator and victims in their midst. They just thought that their little secret would stay a secret, that the world wouldn’t find out? It’s so gross.
