Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

@@molag-ballordofdomination2065 To be fair, humanity built their means of solar annihilation with their own hands. While Thanos relied on 5 quarter-sized cosmic mcguffins that he did not make, only found in various places. Without them, Thanos is just an overly large, strong, and tough purple guy. Remember that he literally had those stones taken from him by a single man in power armor? It would be far more difficult to do anything similar to the setup in this story. A "Rod From God" would curb-stomp Thanos, let alone a star forced to go supernova. You are right, they are not equivalent.

As a man that has commanded a flight of ICBM's. I found this highly entertaining. Deterrence is built on both the capability and will. I remember in my 3rd year pulling nuclear alert during my monthly Emergency War Order training a fellow officer told me that I was sitting at a 10 talking about WWIII and I needed to tone it back to 7. My response was I don't want my deputy to question my commitment or our purpose knowing that our actions would likely be followed by our own death and that of millions more. A 10 was just fine. My squadron commander keep me on alert tell my terminal leave over a year later. I commanded a key turning crew and it only took 2 of 5 crews to commit. My brother and sisters still sit under ground today.

Yeah.. My job was to secure Nuclear weapons storage, and the M&I building from ANY incursions, attempts at theft or destruction with all my brothers in Arms.. All to protect those Key turning officers and all their missiles at their Command.. All Personnel and Assets under our protection.. Two men sitting at their stations, keys inserted, turning in unison on Command.. a lot "like" holding up their fingers to SNAP!!!.... So YES... I hear you SIR.. It struck me too.. just how close this demonstration of power was in this story.. To the reality of what you did.. what I helped to secure safely, Just as that Rifleman in that story was to Secure, Protect that Human Officer.. I was on Duty as we changed our DefCon condition when President Reagan was shot.. Not yet knowing who was responsible, we had to do what SAC did.. Stand Ready to Block any Soviet attempt to decapitate the Nuclear Command structure.. A long, long day, night, not knowing if the world would even exist in the morning... But Thankfully.. the Soviets weren't behind it.. and had the survival instinct to NOT press us that night.. To pull back from the edge, the brink.. all as men like you held up their fingers...... to "Snap"... if need be... We Kept The Faith.. and the world lived on.. The world learning afterwards, that when a SAC Officer holds up his fingers to "snap"? Believe him.. Her now too... There was.. "is", ...... NO F**king around with us.... because Finding Out is expensive.. VERY expensive..

@@larrythompson8630 In the US you need to be a commissioned officer, get a top secret security clearance, get assigned to the career field, get though training, remain active on the Personnel Reliability Program, sign a document saying you would fallow orders to launch, and take three tests every month with a score over 90% to pass in addition to monthly simulator training. Even after all that your squadron commander who is a LtCol has to personally sign off that they trust you. Granted in my 4 years pulling alert I remember two officers that didn't pass that last check at my base. So I doubt the guy ticked all the boxes. Even if he did there are checks and balances build into the system to ensure no single individual can start an unauthorized launch or stop an authorized one. I made it known that I would turn the key that would contribute to the launch of 50 ICBM's when ordered to because we also are required to nark on each other if someone said they would not do it or if we though someone was mentally unstable. I did not want to be put in the situation of torpedoing someone's career because they felt a little to conferrable with me about saying they were not willing to. Almost no one puts 13N on the top of their wish list when they commission. Some of the most well trained and vetted individuals that never wanted the job in the first place.

the darkness is realized upon deeper consideration. There were billions of innocent lives snuffed out by each snap of the fingers. it is beyond the capacity of a human to comprehend the utter annihilation that took place that day, and the callous disregard for sentient life that was required to spur it into inevitability. Humanity grew from the senseless slaughter, they grew into a force of nature, a natural law. realizing what it took to push humanity to turn from a peaceful race into a new Great Filter on their quest to correct the wrongs done to them is sad, terrifying, astounding, and entirely real. Men have become monsters for far less than this.

this is definitely a case for FAFO. We came in peace, the story is my hopes for humanity reaching space - to find older civilizations, to learn from them, to be better than we are - to move forward, and the humanity done exactly that - helped an entire species from going extinct, and in return to be taken advantage of, to use the trusting nature and kindness to take what you want - to come in friendship, peace and cooperation to be meet with sly, devious tactics, false promises - smiling at your face and stabbing you in the back - yeah, that brings out the DARK DEVIL in every heart. 35 years to plan and set in motion the revenge for almost killing an entire race - yeah that is some serious payback. To bring the council to their knees. This story is excellent. A tactic I would fully use. If any words other than ''We fully and unconditional surrender to you'' SNAP, SNAP, SNAP, SNAP - until every world, every race that belongs to the council are removed from the galaxy - and the Terran Empire can create the very council we hope to meet when first entering the stars. On another note - again this reminds me of a saying - ''Never push a good (Hu)man, you may not like what pushes back'' And that cloaking tech - wow, very impressive.

I honestly thought it was going to be a lot more, well darker. Can't help but think that had more of the horror of seeing one's world end in slow motion, instead of just "snap!", there would be less casualties, because systems gone in a snap just doesn't "feel real" and the mind rebels against the reality of an extinction level event happening right in front of you.
@korinogaro

But didn't it work better for humans in this story? Lack of "feel real" made aliens do more stupid shit so more of their worlds got destroyed. Now their whole systems evaporated with all fleets in them.

Reminds me of a certain episode of the old spy show Burn Notice in which the protagonist pretends to be a new gangster challenging established gangs.SPOILER He makes demands of them and every time they refuse he snaps his fingers and something that belongs to them blows up. Very effective.

@@halslusher6030 it used to be called OPSEC, the enemy or even potential enemy should guess what type of weapons you have, how many and where you gained the knowledge to create them. At one time the United States was the only country to have nuclear weapons. The Russians manage to get the information and then there were two countries. MAD does work, but if one side thinks they can come out ahead, then things get ugly. By letting them know you sabotaged their research lets them know they were on the right track.
