So much respect for Slade the 13 year old , i think in his last moments he was fighting to see his siblings and then eventually make it to his parents , to be fatally attacked 3 times and still at the end of it seen to be walking around the garden , so much respect for that dude , RIP , you definitely tried your best

@@TheAnnoyingBoss sounds like you didnt get far enough. he got hit twice, then woke back up and went to his siblings, got chased and knocked out again, then woke up alone. wandered around looking for eveyone until he found his parents dead. and then died next to them, with his parents yet still alone. thats pretty fuking sad if you ask me, each kid just had insane trama in this, the sister for being shown her brothers last moments of being tortured while she probably had unspeakable things done to her as well. all of this is fucking insane and by far the worst part is that it all happened because the kids played outside, and the back door was unlocked.

I watch so much true crime, I’ve grown so used to graphic depictions of violence. But hearing what happened to Dylan has me crying my eyes out right now. He was just a baby that should have been protected. I feel so awful that he had to endure such terrible torture before the untimely end of his short life. I hope he can rest now.

This story of this poor family is the exact reason that the laws against child predators and sex offenders should be stricter and they should never be released to do the same thing again or worse. My heart goes out to the little girl. I hope she can overcome the trauma.❤️❤️❤️

Here's the thing about making stricter laws. They usually end up hurting innocent people and not the people it needs to. I think what you need first and foremost is to realize the United States isn't as safe as you think it is and to be alert. These crimes ain't new only thing new is how fast the crimes get reported.

Oh my god, poor Slade. He was half dead and still gave it everything he could to help his family. Just imagining a dying 13 year old boy using all of his strength to find his mother and die at her feet....so so so tragic and unfair. At least people can know his story and that he was a fighter, but I can't imagine the pain he went through 💔

Dylan was not killed accidentally. Later reports said he shot him in the stomach area intentionally, then as the child screamed, aimed and pulled the trigger again only for it not to fire. The child then begged for his life while he reloaded. This man was a monster.

@@jabarithomas7290 2 different offences - child support is for children's needs - not providing for childrens needs is a form of neglect. I seem to understand that the majority of drug convictions for black men is meth/crack, not weed - and if those prison cells are not filled with young black men then the for profit private prison systems that give campaign funds to politicians cant make as much profit out of human misery. America is the world leader in incarcerating it's own people, 5% of the population, more than China, Iran/Iraq & Russia combined - America has far more problems than just jailing young black men..the legal system is broken and there is inherently no justice system whatsoever. That said..the offender was jailed at the age of 18 for abuse of a 14 year old and served 14 years..which isnt bad. Seems there was no indication he was more than a sex offender or even if he was a sex offender..he didnt tick any of the boxes in his MO.

I remember when this happened, I had just graduated high school. This poor girl has been through more than most people will in their entire life. I recently saw an online video where she speaks about what happened and how difficult it was to live after all she had been through. She is now a mother of 5 boys and said she’s doing the best that she can . I pray for her healing. ❤❤❤ It is absolutely terrifying that evil like this walks among us.

@@rydz656 Not sure what you're referring to. He scammed his child daughter for a house? Or was this more recent? Her dad seems like a pretty stand-up guy who straight up just loves his children. I forget the exact story of this video but it's not uncommon for a father to want to see his children and be in their life but his ex-wife does everything in her power to make sure that won't be possible. It's very interesting to compare how men and women are treated during divorce proceedings, it doesn't take much for a court to decide a man is unfit to be a father but the mom could be an alcoholic and she could still get custody.

All three of the children experienced something horrific in three different ways. Yet, for some reason, Slade’s experience hurts me the most. He was a fighter. He refused to die in order to attempt to save his family. This breaks my heart. Poor babies. The predator deserves no mercy.

The girl ended up being a criminal herself. I think the offenders are actually just people who were victims themselves and have unresolved trauma which needs to be addressed. They don't just commit a crime because they are evil people. As he says, he wants the underlying issues to be addressed so that crime does not happen in the first place. As you can see, he cried out to God asking why he would let this happen. He is a victim himself. They need treatment to heal to prevent crime in the first place, as the "criminal" usually starts out as a victim such as in the girl's case as well.

This is such a horrible story I’m a 57-year-old man and it’s taking me a lot to hold back tears as I listen to this. And from what I understand the young girl that survived has lived a very difficult life ever since. When I was married to my ex-wife I’d be gone sometimes from the house and I always worried about the family so I acquired two Rottweilers that would not let anyone near the house. Because this is one of my worst nightmares that some demon would come in the middle of the night. may these people rest in peace and I hope the young lady that survived we’ll get some help.

Thank god the people at Dennys spoke up so quickly because I'm sure that would've been the last time Shasta would have been seen alive if they didn't say anything, but still so horrifying to think of all the things she had to witness, that mental torture will last far longer than anything and I hope she's doing better these days

There was a huge reward...over 50k for the safe return of the kids. The waitress who called was 8 months pregnant. When it was discovered it was Shasta, the waitress was never given the reward due to BOTH the children not being returned safe. Pissed us all off and the motorcycle community in our area raised 10k for her on our own. Steve was a huge part of our biker community.

I nearly cried when I heard Slade passed next to his mother, teenager or not when you're injured so bad you know you're not gonna make it, or sometimes even if someone hurt you but you're fine, wether it's the shock or pain, you want your parents. I don't know exactly how he felt, but I can fathom it and understand exactly, but I can say Slade was a strong man for definite, it's the young age that makes you surviv like that. despite injuries, in teenage years you often have a very strong drive, which keeps you going, you can be hyperactive so if in critical condition becsuse of many fatal blows and you're gonna succumb, generally you're gonna GO untill you stop, you'll want to be next to your parents,

As a mother of 3, one being a 13 yr old teenage boy. The part detailing how Slade was so ruthlessly hit with a hammer, yet managed to get back up & try to run to get help for his family. Then to be attacked again, and to ONCE AGAIN get back up and make it inside to die at his mother's feet. 😭My heart aches so much hearing how hard he fought, and that he was found at his mother's feet. 💔 🙏🏼RIP to the family, and may Shasta be able to overcome the horrific trauma she's endured from this.

I have watched a lot of true crime documentaries. This one however was really difficult to cope with. What a tragic nightmare. Very graphic, scary and traumatic. May Shasta and her dad heal.

Yeah, it's easily in the top 5 most disturbing cases I've ever heard. I saw one thing, not sure if it's mentioned here, but that after he murdered her brother he tied a rope around the body and forced the girl to drag his body into a fire pit. How on Earth could someone even think of such a thing. I just can't imagine what that girl went through. 🤢

Everyone is talking about Slade or Shasta while both are undeniably tragic I can't imagine the utter terror poor little Dylan had to go through! Being tortured by that monster! How alone and terrified the poor little baby must have been. It makes my blood boil! He got abducted, tortured, murdered brutally and his body got burned then tossed around like garbage. Just appalling... My heart truly aches for the little boy.

This case was HORRIBLE. Instead of getting rid of the bodies, he left them around the house to rot. Joseph was BEYOND evil. That poor little girl. She must have been absolutely terrified. I am by no means religious, but I hope God helps that little girl heal and continues to punish Joseph on earth and in hell. Edit: I also hope Slade feels a sense of justice wherever he is. He was truly a fighter.

I lived in SLC, UT when this happened and I remember it being all over the news. Everyone was looking for her, they had their pictures all over TV 💔 So, sad 😢 they should have kept him in jail to begin with 😢 At least she has her Dad ❤️ They've suffered a huge loss💔

The person who bailed Duncan out of jail is an extremely wealthy Fargo man who owned a large real estate agency. I don't know if he offered any form of compensation to Shasta, but I think he owes her something for letting that animal loose.

I think the torture of poor baby dylan was just the very worst part of this.... how horrific for Shanta to now hold all of this pain and rembering the horrible stuff this monster did to her and her family for the rest of her life... words can't describe how pained I feel for this family.... I just can't handle watching this anymore..

I just turned 14, so I am pretty much Slades age. When I heard that he stood back up for the second time, and did all that to make sure his family was okay, and just everything. I cried. Because I can’t even imagine. Walking in and seeing my mom like that, as i’m in excruciating pain. He is so strong and all I wish is that him and his family are no longer in pain.

Lock your doors, poeple. And i mean every single one! Bedrooms, garages, bathrooms, basements, attics and windows! Even if you aren't using the room lock that shit. Dead bolts if you got em too. I dont care if you live in the nicest place in the world. You never know when a nut job is around. Ive hears plenty of killers say they wouldn't have chosen a house if it was locked or hard to get in. And for obvious reasons. Better safe than sorry.

It may seem to you that they "just do more of the same thing that got them locked up in the first place", but the statistics don't back up your view.

I hope the dogs were given therapy. Being trapped with dead bodies of their family must have been so terrifying. Dogs are extremely emotional animals & most of them have the brain capacity of a human child. A lot of dogs would rather starve than eat the dead body of their human companions because they love us so much. I can't image how scared they were. I have found a new hero in Slade Groene. He fought back, just like Daniel Mauser did during the Columbine massacre. His bravery must be praised.

My heart goes out to all the victims (known and unknown) of this sick individual. He should have never gotten a second chance. There is no telling how many victims are out there. I saw an interview recently with an adult Shasta. She said that she spent the majority of her adolescence in juvenile detention. She didn’t go into detail but did mention that she self medicated to hide the pain of her trauma. She said that she knew every time someone looked at her they could see what was done to her, that she was “dirty.” It was heartbreaking. She spoke about the immense guilt she feels about not being able to keep Dylan safe and protect him. She made him a promise she was unable to keep, and she said for that reason she never makes promises anymore.

She had to undergo surgery after she was rescued for the damage Duncan did to her little body during the numerous rapes she endured. She does have children today. She said she has pictures of her brothers out, and her kids know they died, but she has not told them in what circumstances.

I can’t imagine how hard it will be for that little girl to ever feel safe again. Seeing her knowing that guy killed her family, watching video of her brother tortured, then see him get shot and killed, absolutely horrible. This was a rather hard one to listen to.

Ppl wonder why I'm so vigilant with my children. My daughter never leaves my sight when outside. We had a stalker roaming around our house a few years back and this created a very vigilant side to me. I literally took up night shift so I could be awake while my family sleep, been this way 6 yrs now. No one will be able to enter my house as I have all exits covered. If someone does end up in my house it's game over. They won't make it 2 feet.

@@eye_parasite I never caught them in the act but when covid hit I started getting to know !y neighbors and the guy across the street from us became direct numero uno. We were talking one day and I told him about what had happened and why I shifted my hours of operation and I told him that I had a good idea who it was and he started acting really weird. I initially didn't suspect him but after this conversation I did. He revealed he was on meth so it kinda make sense. However I think this scared him so much that he has gotten off the dope.

I was with my Mom who was admitted in the hospital in another city . First time in my life I felt so scared for my sister . She used to lock the entire house from inside for 20×7 hrs . Now my Father is Sober. Bless Your Family .

I can’t believe an Idaho judge literally locked her up when she was a teen and began getting into trouble. Of course she became a troubled teen! But to incarcerate her in a juvenile detention facility after she had been a captive by a monster and lost her whole family was disgusting on the judge’s part. But that’s the Idaho court system for ya.

But that's exactly what happens to these "monsters" too! Instead of dealing with their demons (alcoholic mother, abusive father, whatever), they toss them in prison. Some of these people who commit crimes come from some of the worst abuse imaginable. Why is it OK for them to go to prison, but because you know HER story, somehow it's not OK for her? Please, just stop and think about that for a second. (Duncan is a piece of shit, I'm not making excuses for anything he did)

There's a vast difference between someone doing drugs or property crime and someone doing something to harm another human being. While I absolutely agree that prison should be first and foremost a rehabilitation process and a place where people are given therapy and skills to cope and survive without doing harm to others, people who harm others for sexual pleasure are extremely dangerous after re-release and studies confirm it over and over again. They shouldn't be allowed to live unsupervised, unmedicated, without therapy.

Well they are required to have access to a lawyer. And the lawyer's job isn't necessarily to get the offender released but make sure that the trial is fair and follows due process, because people are obviously going to be upset so being fair can be hard. If due process of law isn't followed, the offender might be released. Also, sometimes they capture the wrong person (though obviously not in this case) so it helps to have a person who can detach from the emotional aspects of the case. Still, lots of scummy lawyers out there, for sure :S

I knew of this case already and I wish they would have included some of the interviews that Shasta has given as an adult. If I remember everything correctly she has said that Joseph r*ped her too and had tried to strangle her to death but didn’t when she called him „Joe“ (which was supposedly how his mum called him). Another detail I would have liked to be mentioned is that Josep asked Shasta to visit him in prison when he was arrested at that Denny‘s and she said yes (but obviously never did). Imagine having the gall to ask a child to visit you in prison after brutally killing her whole family and torturing her. This guy was truly insane! I wish they would have elaborated on the things that he had written about his childhood. If I recall correctly Shasta struggled with addiction and I think that at least one biological child was taken from her (as far as I understood not because of abuse but because of her addiction- which might have led to neglect idk). I‘ve seen comments scrutinizing her for that and I find that disgusting. Some people can’t even find empathy for an addict who endured what she did. The fact that she’s still alive is a miracle to me and shows how strong she is. I hope that she got the help that she needed.

Ah yes..the EWU crew certainly know how to monetize grief, tragedy and sensationalise abhorrent cruelty and torture. They are very good at reteling cases that have been solved which consequently dont need to be looked into in more depth - but what is important t is that they can make little stories about tragedy and benefit from clicks & views and ensure that they profit out of the abuse of children such as Shasta - you can rest assured that while the EWU crew get financial rewards from youtube, none of it will go to Shasta or other victims of crime.

This has to be the best crime report I've ever seen. The detail from the assailant's POV, and the energy of the narrator, who seems like he's pushing other sounds out at the end of every word. All of the last minute revelations , too.....chock full of disturbing content. A morbidly curious couch potatoes wet dream of shameful entertainment. I do feel a bit guilty watching these things as an alternative to some hollywood or indie thriller. But these cases also give me a sense of duty to help when help is needed, and to be way more empathetic to amber alerts and the like.

I do as well but it’s about people they stopped seeing each other as important everyone is in the doggie doggie fight not caring seeing others as nothing … for me I am successful why because I loved as a child helped my neighbor and tried to bring my friends to the lord I lived honest and happy I was for sure not perfect. But I tried ,… as a teen I stayed away from things bad most times lol I did my teen stufff but I was responsible helped my parents and we were poor but working together we had the basics .. I tried I failed sometimes but I am not evil so a success I. Old now you know over 55 I try

im from bangladesh and i saw this news about 3 members of a family being found dead with no trace of the killer, and only now after finishing the whole video, i realized this story is connected to that news on tv. when they reported it our national tv i really wished that the killer would be found and brought to justice. they didn't mention the disappearance of the other two kids tho

That was so wild. In that moment, he was 100% right about this country and how we aren't too concerned about fixing the reasons why people fall in the cracks of society, become victims, then become abusers. You are just supposed to "pick yourself up by the bootstraps" and make it through life no matter what hand you are dealt. Unfortunately, in the real world, that isn't something that can be done by everyone. Some people aren't born into money, or a loving family, or with total control of their mental facilities, so a stronger infrastructure of a safety net is vital to stop these things from happening. But like in most situations in this country, we don't try to prevent issues, we just react once something horrible happens. Its sad and it won't change.

​@@jthom0027 Problem one is the industrial prison complex, which is big business. It's like people wondering why pharmaceutical companies and doctors haven't found a "cure" for cancer. The money isn't in the cure. The money is in keeping people sick. Same goes with the prison system. They don't care about reform. (However, some are just not able to be truly reformed.) With that said, repeat offenders is really just repeat customers in their eyes.

I live in Coeur d’ Alene and went through this horrific ordeal with everyone else. So many sad aspects to this story, the judges, the court systems, and child protective services. Slade and Shasta didn’t come from a “model family” if you will. My grand daughters went to elementary school with Slade. There a memorial on the playground dedicated to him. 😢 Major gratitude to the waitress at Dennys for recognizing Shasta, and stalling Duncan until the police arrived. Some of the early aspects of the story didn’t quite add up to some of us locals. Tragic nonetheless

@@ryanhurst6882 The news reported that Duncan saw the children playing in their front yard, which was visible from the freeway as he drove past their house. I don’t believe that was how Duncan became aware of the family and decided to return to their home. I suspect something else. The entire family were not exactly law abiding citizens and I believe (personally) that Duncan knew of the family before he even got to North Idaho. There were too many pieces of the puzzle that didn’t match up, imo

I sit here after finishing this story and my mind is racing with words like cruel and evil and inhuman. My heart goes out to the survivor and her family. Please, everyone, keep your heads on a swivel. Lock your doors and windows. Get sensors or cameras. Take care of eachother bc there are so many people in this world that want to do harm. It comes so easy to these criminals and I just can't wrap my head around how or why. That's why I love these videos. It's to help me understand the darkness that is real in this world so I take nothing for granted and can pay homage to the victims and their stories.

Exactly. We all never know how close we have come to being a victim in our lives. Evil lurks. I'm a single parent, pray for my child's safety daily. Taught her to shoot, self awareness. I teach Martial Arts to kids at our local rec center and can't get my child interested to learn and train. It's frustrating.

Never ever go down without a fight. If someone is in your house against your wishes, especially with a weapon, you attack at any chance you get. I'd rather die fighting knowing I tried than watching the mother go get every kid to serve up on a platter. Lock your doors and shoot to kill.

Watched this yesterday, but this story is haunting my thoughts like few have... such utter depravity! To think... this devil saw this family as nothing more than a disposable commodity, the only resource that he sought to harvest was the tortured suffering of the little boy; everything else was merely a means to that end. And to think he crept up to that unlocked door three times in the night... How Shasta and her father have retained any sanity after enduring such horror is beyond me! It's unimaginable.

The part where the abuser says “ he knew a lot about abuse… “ I have no doubt he did. Whatever suffering he may or may not have experienced in childhood that fuelled his later behaviour doesn’t wash with me. I have sympathy for the child in him and his earlier experiences but not for the adult for the following reasons. When we are grown, regardless of our history we become adults and have to take responsibility for the decisions we make. There are billions of people on this planet, many of home have experienced harder childhood experiences than this perpetrator, and yet they didn’t behave like him, also there are many other people who experienced less childhood harm than him and as adults did far worse! Swings and roundabouts! There’s a point where regardless of our history we have to take the consequences of our behaviour. So he should never ever be set free in society again. The public have an absolute right to remain protected and I doubt very much he can be rehabilitated and even if he can be, his crimes are so heinous he should never be forgiven.

Hearing about the teenager standing back up when they left hit hard, especially knowing he went back inside and leaving the blood on his father, checking on his condition I'm sure and ended up next to his mother...
