Hope you enjoyed this #DIYGasm episode of actively cooling your electronics so they last longer and run better. Just like you need to keep your PC cool with good airflow you really need to do that other devices in your house especially if they are in confined areas. My cable modem stopped locking up and needing to be reset every day after adding this fan to it and same for my networking router that was hanging about once a week before I actively cooled it. So, a guy on Amazon says that these fans use ~0.9 watt-hours of juice. Given that the Razer Blade Pro has a 70 Wh battery, assuming nothing else is drawing power, it can run the fan for ~77.7 hours. So, not quite years, but still a decently long time.

According to amazon.de's product page: 5 V (USB standard voltage) * 0.2 A = 1 W. The 30 Ah battery back has capacity of 450 Wh (5 V output). So, the fan would last 450 hours under optimal conditions and the smaller one could power the fan for about 25 hours. It's probably a little less than 450 or 25 hours, due to losses in voltage conversion etc. (18650 cells have nominal voltage of 3.6 V and max. about 4 to 4.2 V)

had one of those since like 2014 or 15, no noticable degration over time and the bending part is as stiff as ever (ladys). i used them to cool my room, they get a good airflow in a room if placed stategigly (one of those). its not as quiet as a regular pc fan, but more quiet than any other usb fan i ever had, they are made by arctic and u can hear and feel that. at the moment i plug it in my mainboard whenever i load into a game to cool the back of my gfx card. i think they take 300ma, my powerbank with 20000mah ran it 34-38h. my 85yo grandma bought one and a powerbank when i showed it to her, and in the summer she takes it everywhere she goes.

Got one of these after this video as my laptops keyboard gets extremely hot when running intense games, now it not only stays cool, but actually cold to the touch, much better than typing with sweaty hands on a hot keyboard. Alright, the Razer Blade Pro has either a 70 or 99 Wh battery. An Amazon reviewer measured the current used as around 170 mA at 5 V, which totals to 0,85 W. Say we have an efficiency of 90% for the buck converter in the laptop, this gives us a 63 or 89,1 Wh of effective capacity at 5 V. That means that, depending on the model and given that the fan would be the only thing run by the laptop, you could expect about 74 or 105 hours of continuous fan-running off the Blade.
@aarorasilainen
@aarorasilainen 5 жыл бұрын
For the 30 000 mAh battery: they are rated at the nominal voltage of 3,7 V giving a total maximum capacity of 111 Wh. Say, again, we have a 90% efficiency in the boost converter, we have an effective capacity of 99,9 Wh, giving us an estimated runtime of about 117 and a half hours.

Assuming each of those fans draw the advertised 0.2 amps, it'll (theoretically) take 75 hours for two of those to drain down that big battery pack, and 25 hours for the tiny battery on one fan, may have to subtract a few hours from power conversion losses.

I have one of these and they're great. Using it through a USB power meter, it uses around 1 Watt, so whatever the W/h rating, that many hours. Give or take a 30k mAh should keep it running about 6-10 days. This is dependent strongly on the efficiency and age of the battery pack, the power leakage of pack and fan and the resistance of the wiring used on the fan and battery pack. The fan tech sheet says it runs on 0.2 amps but that is the rating of just motor. My calculations are based on the efficiency of the best and worst power pack I have data sheets on. On a brand new pack with high efficiency it could be as high as 45 days but that would be a marginal case. It is safe to say an average of 6-10 days non-stop.

@Barnacules Nerdgasm : Some quick dirty math on how long the fan would last on that Razer Blade Pro (as I can't quickly see any replies that have taken a crack): Thankfully someone on Amazon had measured the draw of the fan when plugged into their computer; It draws 168.5mA @ 5.12V. The Razer Pro has a 70.5 Wh (watt hour) battery, by presuming that we are just looking at the draw for the fan we can convert that to Ah using the formula (Wh)/(V) =(Ah) (70.5Wh/5.12V=13.77Ah). Now its as simple as dividing the Ah by the Amps (168.5mA = .1685A) 13.77Ah/.1685A=81.72h. This is taking in presumptions that there is no other power draw with the lid closed (and I ain't goin that far down this rabbit hole). So I would estimate somewhere round 72hours would be a good bet. TLDR: ~72hrs (3 Days)

Going by the rated draw of 0.2 amps at 5v from the fan and given the razer blade pro has a 99wh battery at 11.4 volts, In a perfect world it should run for 98ish hours if nothing else is drawing power. Realistically with the rest of the system and inefficiencies in the voltage regulation I would guess significantly less time. 18-20 hours would be my guess .

Hi Jerry! Glad to see a reboot of videos...Got an idea for your USB fans...someone may have commented before me...not sure...but how about 3D printing a fan guard for those fans so no one get hurts? O_o

Todd Chevrier I love this idea! I bet I could make something that form fit to the cover on the back or possibly even clipped onto the stem 🤔

@@Barnacules The sky is the limit! I have been *"farting around on Fusion 360"* to model up useful things that can be 3D printed. Like a wireless mini stand for my iPhone and iWatch. I'm NOT going to pay $100s for something I can 3D print myself and add my own creativity.

the fan consumes 5v 0.2A (1Wh), Razer Blade Pro says it has a battery that outputs 99Wh, so, with full battery can run it for 99 hours

I actually bought two of theses because of one of your video talking about them and put them on my modem and router. I use to have an issue where my internet would just randomly drop and would require me to restart my whole network, I stuck a USB extension to my router and plugged a fan into it to cool my modem, then stuck another fan in to cool my router things are great. tempted to get more to cool my consoles seeing they could probably use all the extra help they can get.

I mean, 10 bucks is not THAT cheap, specailly since you can get similar products for like 2 bucks. HOWEVER, these seem to be of very high quality, so it's probably wortth it. I'd also advice people who want one for silently cool your face in your desk or booth to check boothjunkie's video on a usb fan (a more stationary one) that's dead silent for the amount of wind it blows, great for streamers or in general audio sensitive situations.

@Cristian I just want to share my humble opinion just as an information. $10 is not that cheap? It's definitely more expensive outside of the U.S. Life in the U.S. is so easy and U.S. citizens are still complaining about the prices. Try to buy something in other countries as a citizen of that countries - you will be surprised. The ratio of the purchasing power of earned money to the price of goods is most favorable in the U.S.
