@@Aramaru-nr8dr well you gotta keep in mind that while to you it may not be impressive because you lack any redeemable qualities that may be remembered even after you die, that this man has been the best of untold millions of people through sheer dedication, the field being so contested that a single second is an abslute effort not as much effort as it is for you to think a single coherent thought but still seriously you dont have any fucking right to judge and im honestly surprised that by your own words you aint impressed by this considering youre obviously not at the mental maturity of a preschooler

Many thanks to all of you that have taken the time to comment about Simply's world record run. Thank you Karl for the wonderful video and your support for the speed running community. We've have read many of the comments and we are a bit overwhelmed, thank you once again for your kind words. We are so proud of our son Simply, in his eight years of speed running he has held a job, got a college degree (was accepted into the Master's program), and had and recovered from hand surgery. He is also an accomplished musician and a distance runner. Most important he is kind and respectful. We adore all of our kids, their happiness is vital. We are far from perfect, but, have always strived to provide a loving and happy home. One of Simpdad's favorite sayings is, "If it's gonna be, it's up to me." We encourage everyone to chase their dreams. We believe the best is yet to come! Stay safe! Much love, Simpmom and Simpdad

Heh At least some people have good parents that support them in whatever they do. Meanwhile I had to turn down my chance at becoming a competitive player, because my parents refused to accept me playing games even as a pass time, or for fun. The mere idea of competing to them was a joke to them. Good to see _real_ parents are out there, as I said in a different comment, my family would have come in, berated me in front of the stream for chasing such pointless goals and yanking cords out of equipment till it all shut down. Happy thanksgiving everybody, I personally hate the holiday, because the holiday is centered around family, and mine is pretty foul, if you've got good parents, or you are a good parent. Don't take it for granted, not everybody is as lucky as you.

I remember when Nicrovida broke the 1 hour barrier in SMO his mom came in all excited. I think some parents realize that not only can top competitors in popular speed games make enough off their streams to do it as a job, but also realize the payday that can befall someone who takes a record in one of those games. Not to mention it shows determination and ambition which are great traits. Objectively speaking there is no reason not to be proud of your kid if they do something like this.

I mean, parents want their kids to be happy more than anything, and while money doesn't buy happiness, a decent amount of it can go a long way towards having a comfortable life. People who have the financial leeway to put time into the things that fill them with joy are objectively happier than those forced to focus on where their next meal is coming from. So, as a parent of a kid with an unusual talent, of course I'd be interested in whether that talent was lucrative, particularly if I wasn't that well off myself and worried how I could support them if they themselves struggled financially. Not through reasons of greed but because what parent wouldn't want their kid to have a higher quality of life?

My son is five years old. Last year when he was four, he started to play Mario maker 2. Obviosly he was pretty glumsy and could barely do anything that move mario to the right, but he loved the game and as time passed, I just kept giving him the controller. Now he plays not only easy levels but even normal difficulty levels pretty smoothly. My wife doesnt like the game, and says that he playes it too much. She says that video games are bad and dont let room for childs imagination development, but I know they have a lot of good things like problem solving and stuff. I know the risks of too much gameplay at young age, but Im so proud of my sons learning that I just would want to watch him play all day. Im sad that me and my wife have different opinnions about his gaming, but im gonna try to support him with the hobby he loves so much. Great video Karl, as always.

The funny thing is, video games are often vilified. They're blamed for violence, bad grades, social issues, you name it. The thing is I am one of many who played games a lot when I was younger and I turned out completely fine. I also think it's funny how it's ok to binge on boxsets or spend hours watching TV while playing candy crush and that's completely fine but somehow spending the same amount of time playing a game, where you actually interact and often socialise with other people (albeit not in person) is worse
@jst25
@jst25 4 жыл бұрын
@@BuIIetBiII I think most educated sources warn about screen time in general with little kids. I don't think you want a toddler or small child playing multiple hours of video games or watching tv or using an iPad for that matter. As kids get older, more video games should be fine, although the psychology of dopamine release and gambling built into many games is scary.

Seeing that Simply clip made me realize how shitty most parents are. In most parent's minds, it's better to be completely average at the things everyone else is doing to seem normal to those people, than to strive to be the best at what ever you put your mind to, no matter how abnormal it makes you seem to most people. This clip made me a better parent if I ever have kids. Let them chase their dream, what ever it is, and support them to be the best at what they want to be best at.

He's a lucky guy to have such supportive parents. I was made to feel guilty over my passions for decades and it took a lot of strength to own my choices and say this is who i am and this is what I enjoy. I, like Karl, was lucky enough to find a girl who loves me for who I am and not for what they want of me but before that it was very lonely.

It's truly a beautiful thing having parents who support what you do. I have no idea where I'd be without my father helping me out with my music stuff. He knows working a "real" job is difficult for me due to my seizures. Low-key jealous, everyone deserves to have parents like this. My Dad always told me I'd be a failure because I'd keep playing games. And even when I started doing things he should be proud of, like getting through college with a amazing GPA or landing my first big job while in college and continuing to do good, he just left out my life and stopped supporting all together. I am so happy for this runner to have such supportive parents, makes me happy to know they exist, even if I didn't get to have that.
