Feb 6th 1958. Manchester United and English football lost it's brightest lights.
I'm privileged to be joined by my Grandfather, who was working in Old Trafford at the time, to give his memories from that time. His thoughts on the great players we had lost, including Duncan Edwards and what the legacy of the disaster is to this day.

Great stuff!! I'm old enough to have been privileged to have seen the Babes play and I was at Highbury for their last game in the UK before Munich. 5-4 What a match. My old man was Ken Jones who wrote The Manchester United Calypso.

As a fan from the US (been made fun of for calling it football rather than soccer my whole life) this video is one of the very reasons why I love this sport. The tear in his eye and emotion in his voice is very powerful. Thank you Stephen and especially big thanks to your Grandfather what you and your mates do for us fans is exactly what's good about this digital and social media age we live in all positivity and banter and now education on the history of this game we love. Cheers lads thanks from across the pond and GGMU

My father was in Britain when the tragedy happened, it was one of the first things he told me about when I was a child growing up. He wasnt a United fan but everybody in Britain at the time was emotionally impacted by this horrible accident. The Flowers of Manchester, may they all rest in peace. Cheers to your Grandfather Stephen, wishing him more time on earth.

I choked watching this. It's heartbreaking what happened to the Babes. A big loss for everyone. English football truly lost it's brightest lights. I cannot even imagine what your Grand dad must have gone through and all the people in Manchester when it happened. It's hard to comprehend. It was a privilege listening to your Grand Dad. Thanks for this masterpiece Howson.

I have watched this before and will again, that emotion poring out of your grandad is palpable. This club is resilient, it will always face adversity and stand again. I love this club, we should acknowledge the loss in grander fashion each year and rebuild our club with youth in the same manner. We used to be bold and brave, we need to get that back.
