I was only three. I became a fan once the Mahri came onto shelves and fell in love with the story since, especially when I discovered MNOG I and II. Bionicle was a toyline like no other, and I don't think there will ever be another like it. It had a complex story, focused on characters and a sprawling world, and was simple for those who didn't think much and only loved the toys and aesthetic, and had lots to offer for those who followed the story and lore.

Hey everyone! For the fourth day of our reveal of the music of Bionicle: Quest for Mata Nui, we have an enhanced version of the iconic Beach Chant from the Mata Nui Online Game for you. Its an absolutely iconic piece and we knew from the start that it needed to be present in BQFMN as is. Thanks to the audio wizardry of our musician Gauthier J. (known on the discord as Opposyte), we were able to improve the overall audio quality of the original track to bring it more in line with the sound quality you expect from a game in 2021, without changing the tracks original iconic sound. We hope you like it! We will be releasing a new track every day for the entire week, so stay tuned!

The beach chant was already an iconic theme in Bionicle, first heard when players first woke up on the golden shores of Mata Nui in MNOG. This remastered version basically took the mysterious atmosphere and mystic chanting of the original, symbolizing the beautiful, yet ancient setting of the Island of Mata Nui. However, it adds a sinister tone near the end, possibly symbolizing the dark shadow of Makuta corrupting the Island and its wildlife.

I have yet to play MNOG but this music hits so hard, as I remember it mostly from the Bionicle story recap videos. This still sounds pretty lo-fi to my ears. I can't tell much difference between this and the version that plays in MNOG in terms of sound quality, which is a little disappointing; I would have hoped for a ground-up remake. Using the original MNOG files this way actually clashes noticeably with the new music, even though it's in the same style, just because of the difference in audio quality. I feel bad for saying this because I'm sure Opposyte is absurdly talented and working his tail off for peanuts, but the added vocal layer at the end (throat singing?) just enhances the contrast between bitcrushed-to-death 2001 Flash audio and modern file compression. It warbles with a wet, natural vibrato that tickles my ear just right, and there's only so much you can do to the original MNOG files to fool my auditory cortex into thinking they're the same thing. Speaking of which, do you have any plans to remaster or (even better) remake the version of this music that appeared in the early Bionicle Story slideshows? I'm talking about these ones: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXnakmV5Z56eiLc I've considered the track that plays in that video the definitive Bionicle theme music since I've first heard it, and would be overjoyed to hear it released from the file-size constraints of early-2000s Flash.
