I think mainstream reaction to a film's score is largely carried by the mainstream reaction to the movie. There's not a single note of music from any of the Pirates of the Caribbean scores that I would put anywhere near John Debney's Cutthroat Island... but you almost never hear anyone talk about the latter score.
