Nine Sols is my game of the year and actually the best Metroidvania of all time. It's a fucking masterpiece in my opinion. It's a shame that the game flew under the radar, but I'm glad it's getting the recognition it deserves now.

Here's a few I'd recommend myself: Abiotic Factor (Early Access) - Throw a bit of Half-life,SCP, and survival crafting together and you get this amazing fun game Fallen Aces (Early Access) - a crime noir FPS straight out the comic books that contains massive levels where you can explore and utilize just about anything you can pick up as a weapon Halls of Torment - A horde survival roguelike with a Diablo like aesthetic, take down hordes of demons with multiple classes. Collect gear and unlock achievements to increase your power. Hollowbody - A tech-noir survival horror short story, set in the urban decay of a long abandoned British city inspired by silent hill and resident evil. Isles of Sea and Sky - A fantastic, oceanic, open world block puzzle adventure with a retro 8 bit style Kill Knight - an ultra-responsive arcade-inspired isometric action shooter. Wield an arsenal of devastating weaponry to obliterate swarms of otherworldly horrors. Sorry We're Closed - a nostalgic, single-player survival horror game with rich lore, deep characters and multiple endings. Use your third eye ability to solve puzzles and combat demons.

Nine Sols is a Metroidvania all timer (Lost Crown is also up there). I really think Windblown shines when doing it co-op. Its got some really nice features for that.

The snubbing of Nine Sols is an absolute crime... it's gotta be deliberate. Maybe something to do with the China prez/Winne the Pooh thing. No matter the reason it's shameful this game doesn't get the attention it deserves.

I've been recommending Dungeons of Hinterberg a lot this year. It's a bit slower paced a more story heavy so I can see it not being for everyone, but it really hit for me. It's been stuck in the back of my mind since I played it.

Is no rest for the wicked better balanced and optimized yet? I was insanely hyped about this but there was two things about iron pineapples video that cooled me off and made me wait on it.l: A) it was really unbalanced. Quite a bit too hard and grindy at first and then just way too easy upon a certain threshold. B) really badly optimized and in need of extremely good hardware to run smoothly. Have these things been fixed yet?

No sé si No rest for the wicket se puede considerar Indie. He jugado el acceso anticipado. La parte roguelike "the crucible" es demasiado difícil (llegué al final pero no pude con él) , el resto, subiendo de nivel, esta muy bien. El rendimiento, lo corrigieron rápidamente. Yo lo jugué con una 2060 y me ha funcionado bien. En cuanto esté la versión definitiva volveré a él. Es muy bueno.

I have a 4070 super and it ran great on my PC! As far as it being grinding I do see this as a slight issue, but it wasn't enough to hinder my enjoyment of the game!

@ that’s interesting. I imagine if it was so buggy it wouldn’t have such a high rating. I wonder if what you are experiencing are performance bugs. Meaning that while most aren’t experiencing bugs because their PCs are handling the game fine you aren’t because you PC is struggling to run it causing random issues. I bet it’s a CPU issue on your end. The games VRam usage is barely over 2 gigs…

@jacobmstevens I do not recommend playing it if you are busy with other stuff because it will steal your time it's so addictive and fun 😂 I also never played any card games and balatro is so much more than a "card game" it's like seeing gold and saying that's a rock or looking at your soul mate and saying that's a stranger trust me on this it is a really fun game you MUST play it

why do so many youtubers pics games that are net yet finished yet when we have had so many great indie games this year. it's very strange indeed.........games to try biomorph, crypt custodian, gestalt, world of goo 2 (1st half of the game is not the real game), neva { from the makers of gris).. ok there plenty more but those are some of the best. i look forward to playing that car game. thanks for the recommend

I mean, you’re right in the sense that a lot of this Indie game of the year lists may include stuff that’s still in Early Access rather than picking from all games that are already fully released. However, I will say, at least with this review, he only had two early access games amongst this roster, but yeah, it is kinda odd with how many indie games we get per year, many of which are high quality and worthy of recognition, that games that are still in development do end up being highlighted as well. I do think it’s also good to shine a light on some upcoming projects, but I guess it could be formatted as more of an “honorable mentions” thing, or perhaps just a separate video entirely? I dunno, it probably doesn’t matter all that much and is a personal choice of the creators anyways.

Crypt custodian was SO GOOD! I played the demo and immediately bought it and then did nothing but play until I'd finished it. Very rare for me to be that engrossed in a game. It's not the most complex or difficult game out there, but what it does is done really very well, especially when considering that it was made by one guy. Solo developer games are usually pretty bad, they just can't see the faults in their own work and are too egotistical to ask others to expose them for adjustment, but not so with Crypt Custodian! If it wasn't obvious, I was very impressed!

@@jacobmstevens an indie is just a game with a small development team and/or budget. The publisher itself isn't really important. Just as an AAA game is one with a very big (arguably excessive) budget, and has nothing to do with quality or enjoyment.
