The Mysteries Of Jurassic Park 3's Production

Hey guys! In this video I go over the mysteries of Jurassic Park 3's production! This includes a conversation on the rumors of the Jurassic Park: Extinction and Jurassic Park: Breakout scripts as well as a lot of the others stuff I've brought up before in individual videos. Personally the behind the scenes stuff that Joe Johnston and Steven Spielberg must know about JP3 fascinates me and its the movie that I think of the most when Jurassic Park mysteries or secrets come into my mind. Hopefully some day I will be able to share with you guys those older scripts! But for now we just have this stuff to go off of! Hope you all enjoy! :D

Both alternative JP3 would've been more JP than what we got. JP3 as it is was kind of aimless and ultimately harmless if not irritating since it ditches Grant's character arc from the first film. But DX, a disease that comes from an engineered form of life would've been an area to explore in keeping with the consequences of John Hammond's dream in the first and second film (and potentially a real world consequence of genetic experimentation). Breakout would've even worked for migrations of these animals and man's role in this ecosystem that now has to adapt to what humanity did. JP3 is alright, but the other film's would've been a better choice.

Breakout sounds pretty awesome, not gonna lie. My favorite JP3 scene though was the intro roar for the Spinosaurus where Grant is like "...it sounds bigger." I was just 8 when I saw the movie in theaters and that scene honestly scared me and stuck with me.

I really have a disdain for the movie. I think it's definitely good for the lore of the story but the characters were what killed it for me. All 3 movies at the time had kids dealing with their parents divorcing or fighting. This one brought the problem parents to the island together and I found it very annoying. I didn't want to see people fighting each other I wanted to see dinosaurs. I wanted to see ms Kirby get eaten because let me be honest, she and her ex were two of the worst aspects of the movie. I also think they could have added to the run time with the movie being the length of a children's movie but out of all three pre2015 movies ot was the one that was not meant for a child audience. I think the more adult demographic was what killed this movie for me growing up.

There wouldn't really be much to read apart form notes or random parts of the script as it seems that the writers had a rush of ideas. What I mean by that is that they came up with the original story, started work on it, then they had another idea for a story that they though would be better, scrapped all of their work on the previous idea and worked on the new one, this repeating until they ended up with no story nor time to come up with one (I do games development, and that's the first thing my teacher warned us about when we started to make our own ideas for a game, to avoid an issue that the directors of JP3 faced at the end, not having anything done and having to rush to meet the deadline)

I'd have to say my favorite parts of JP2 & 3 were when they humans discovered the ruins of the old InGen facilities. Between the work that had been carried out in those facilities, how overgrown the facilities were, the claw marks, and the fact that those facilities were within carnivore territory just made for an amazing atmosphere. I wish that those areas had gotten more screen-time. Even if the survivors didn't get attacked in those places, just the atmosphere itself would've kept me on edge. As a kid those places always filled me with a sense of dread and fascination.

@@lucascesar6662 the thing is that Crichton left before all the issues with the production started happening, and that's sort of why these issues occurred in the first place, they just couldn't come up with a story for the movie to follow (as to why they scrapped their ideas for extinction and breakout we can only speculate), so by the end they obviously had to wing it because they had a deadline to meet.

Fun fact: the dino skeleton in the JP3: extinction poster is a Lourinhanosaurus, a obscure theropod described in 1998, 3 years before JP3 was aired, leading to the possibility that Lourinhanosaurus would've been in the film. What makes that more interesting is, as you said, the logo was shaped like an egg, and Lourinhanosaurus eggs with embryos in them have been found. To answer your questions, I would've loved to see JP3: Extinction. That sounds awesome and would tie in perfectly with why Isla Nublar would be the only island with dinos on them in Fallen Kingdom. As far as my favorite scene in the final product, I agree with you, the bird cage scene was the best part.

I always liked the idea of Grant living on the island. I know he was almost killed by dinosaurs but I still have a hard time believing he would have such a sinister outlook on the dinosaurs like we get in JP3. I think it’s one of the reasons why JP doesn’t work.

This is why I like Jurassic Park 3 so much. It’s so mysterious and I love it. People may get mad about the Spinosaurus killing the Rex, but that’s another reason why I like it because they decided to break the norm and do something different and strange. I personally like the Extinction script idea alot. I like the fact that they were going to have a deadly disease that caused the second extinction of the dinosaurs and it was bad enough to kill man. That sounds cool. My favorite scene from JP3 is a tie between the Spino Vs. Rex fight and the final scene with the Spino in the rain attacking the boat.

The best scenes in my opinion is the Embryonics, Administration, and Laboratories Compound because it gives you the of the kind of dark and cold side vibe of InGen's genetic research while in Jurassic Park we saw the "family friendly" side with the velociraptor hatching. The scenes also sparks ideas of what else InGen could have been up to that nobody knew about. Think of all the mutated errors that where hatched there before these beeings actually became dinosaurs.

Why was it changed so much? Because of this, the movie is hated because of how randomly thrown together it is, and how short it is.

I'd guess because they didn't think what they came up with was good enough? After all, Crichton left the project before they had a story, and considering that the previous movies were based upon the story that Crichton originally wrote, they would feel as if they should make something of equally good quality, didn't feel like their ideas were good enough, and scrapped their script to work on a new one (until they had no more time to come up with something else and had to make do with what they had). Another possibility is they they had a rush of ideas that resulted in abandoning their previous story and working on the new story.

Extinction looks like a cool storyline and would have added extra threat in the disease, as well as a reason to go to the island. Perfect excuse to get the band back together as well, since Alan, Ellie and Ian all have skills that would contribute to resolving the crisis.

Thanks for the video! I personally would love to hear more about the Jurassic Park 3 Extinction script. I've never heard of this script prior to seeing this video. However, it sounds the most interesting of all the proposed versions of what would become JP3. Also, as for my favorite Jurassic Park 3 moment, it would probably have to be the bird cage sequence. Extinction for sure. It’s something creative for a dinosaur movie of how a disease is breaking out and spreading. I’d really love to see that, or as the next movie. I've always loved JP3 it in my opinion hung on to the fast pace that Lost World introduced thought the entirety of the movie in terms of action sequences. I love the Raptor design and the scenes as well as the introduction of the Spino to the franchise! I remember the video about the raptors attacking and killing the Spinosaurus and think we are still owed a scene with them coming together or facing off in the next movie considering they never came in contact on screen in JP3.

If anyone remembers the JP3 board game, it actually had the raptors vs spino fight as a card the humans could get. It also had the area with raptors right next to the aviary ( like that concept art of raptors chasing them into it instead of the spino ) and the final area had pteranodons on the beach instead of raptors and also a card saying a pteranodon attacks the rescue helicopter, like that alternate ending they had planned.

I feel like the Extinction film sounds very interesting and hunting as a Jurassic Park movie concept. Kind of bring this whole fantastical idea of dinosaur wonder to some disturbing possible unforeseen consequences. It especially feels existentially horrifying with the fetus poster.

In my opinion, Jurassic Park extinction sounds like a horror title. Reminds me of the Jurassic Park Evilution story, in which mabye Universal could do another haunted walk through but of Jurassic Park extinction or even a official horror video game, kinda like Dino Crisis (yes it's kinda of what you said of Jurassic park/World needing a official horror game, which I agree on 😁) As for Jurassic Park 3 Breakout, that also sounds like a Concept for a video-game or even a mini series, kinda like Camp Cretaceous. I think it would have been interesting to combine the plots of Extinction and Breakout, with the Pteranodons being the main carriers of the disease. I would also add a mutation element to DX, where it not only kills the dinosaurs/humans it infects, but also changes them physically (for example, scales falling off, bubbling skin, maybe even blindness?).

Maybe breakout for thrills and extinction for really hard and diffcult themes

My favorite part of JP3 was definitely the pteronadons. That was the scene that had me going back to see it again and excitedly buying it and watching it when it came on DVD. They were my favorite dino and to see them so perfectly realized in a JP movie was awesome. It did have more humor in it but people laughed at the jokes in the theater so they were appreciated by some. Also seeing them fly off at the end with those beautiful clouds in the background was awesome. It woulda made more sense if the spino had broken through the building that led to the birdcage because it would rush them down the stairs faster and it would've explained how that group of pteros got out. Obviously some of them were out already because they were at the end of TLW. Of the first three, TLW was my least favorite of all of them until your videos made me appreciate it more. And while I have everybody's attention, I feel that at the end of JW3, everyone will think Blue is dead but she will be Owen's pet at his cabin in the mountains and that's where she'll live out the rest of her days.

Well Jurassic park still probably would have gotten shut down. I believe that at the point that nedry would have returned a few people still would have died and Ginero would have probably still had the park shut down. And that disaster would still get out to the public and cause the governments to focus on genetic research more closely. Possibly putting an end to the rival park in the process. I don't think world history wise things would change very much. But a few people would probably still be alive. I could be wrong though.

@@justnoah2073 like I said I'm not sure obviously but maybe after JP incident the governments would crack down on genetic research, which could end biosyns plans to open a rival park. So most likely either they would have to dump the embryos so as not to get caught with them, sell them on the black market, or try to keep their testing and development a secret.. or possibly work with a world government which could also be possible.... now, if nedry completed his mission and returned to base before a single dinosaur escaped and they completely averted the JP Disaster and no one died, than I'm pretty confident that Biosyn would have attempted to open a rival park like they talk about in the first novel.

Great video, as always, Klayton Fioriti. I always felt JPIII had less of a story and more just an excuse to get people on an island with dinosaurs again. It was 92 minutes long for a reason. Both Extinction and Breakout sound much more interesting than the final product.

I bet a lot of what was done for JP3 Breakout will become inspiration for Jurassic World 3 - Like the concept of the male lead riding a motorcycle in the jungle and raptors being used to attack a larger predator made their way into the other JW movies. Can't wait to see what happens.

I’m leaning towards Jurassic Park 3: Breakout as my favorite script that was scrapped. For favorite part of the final film, I’d say the Pteranodon bird cage since its action packed and fun, but also the riverbank scene where they see all the plant eating dinosaurs peacefully grazing. It’s a nice break from the intensity involving the carnivorous dinosaurs.

For sure my favorite is the Spino vs Rex fight yeah it's short but it's pretty darn awesome, I liked that a new creature got the spot light for once. :)
