Despite being a famed and highly successful Imperial Guard commander, an air of mystery nonetheless surrounds Captain Al’rahem of the Tallarn Desert Raiders. Could he truly be the same Al’rahem who fought during the events of the long forgotten Macharian Crusade, or is he in fact someone else entirely?

When I first started the hobby back in the mid to late 90s, my first army were the Tallarn Desert Raiders. I was flicking through the Imperial Guard Codex one day and read the bit about Captain Al'Rahem and then realised that I had seen that miniature in a small shop just hours before. I immediately dashed back out to buy it not wanting anyone else to pick it up. I still have him and his Desert Raiders in my army to this day.

10:40 Years ago knew a player that liked painting more then the playing. So she had an IG army that had infantry squads from every regiments that GW put boxes out for. Called them the Survivors of Armageddon.

I suspect that Al'rahem has become a title of sorts, inherited when a commander of that particular group has proven to be so efficient in battle that they may as well be considered a reincarnation of the previous Al'rahem in name. Alternately, a perpetual who mostly kept off the radar. It'd explain why he'd duel an experienced Aeldari and come out on top without being an enhanced human being (such as a Space Marine). If they hadn't retconned it, he could have been a Sensei. But those aren't a thing anymore.

There are very good 3rd party sculpts from Victoria miniatures,(Both male/female models) but it depends how open you are to 3rd party, and whenever you are looking to play games at a GW store (Some are a bit picky about proxy models) Would still recommended though.

Unless they did get lost in the Warp and spat out centuries later, then the Tallarn 3rd that fought under Macharius would have been destroyed, merged, and/or retired centuries ago. Presumably, when that happened, the Tallarn would give that number to a new Regiment. That has to be fairly standard practice in the Imperial Guard, otherwise, worlds like Cadia would have had to have five or six digits in their Regiment numbers by the time of the XIII Black Crusade. It's possible that Tallarn forms a new 3rd Regiment every 20 years, and that every 20 years, a descendant of the original Al'Rahem is picked as a Capitan, just out of tradition.

I love the idea that Al'rahem is a title passed on but instead of it just being an honorary title the new commander actually takes on the identity of Al'rahem completely in order to instill fear into the enemies of mankind.. Perhaps even going as far as getting facial reconstruction and vocal augmentation to truly become indistinguishable from his predecessor.

Another alternative: He is using an Eldar spiritstone in order to pass his skills and name onto each new generation of his children, each one assuming the mantle of Captain of the Desert Tigers using generations of past knowledge to easily lead their people.

Alternate theory: Al'rahem didn't get a new Plasma Pistol, he just removed the Targeter, due to getting so good at destroying the enemies of Mankind that he felt it made things "too easy". Also, he could be the same person across multiple centuries if he were say... a Perpetual?

Another great video! And I'd like to hear Naerina record readings of whole books. Such a crisp voice, easy to pay attention to and coupled with very professional presentation. I decided to look up Al'Rahem in Arabic and the closest I got was 'Al'Raheem'. So, close. And, the meaning of 'Al'Raheem' is the mercy that embraces all the creations of Allah. So, another take is its a title for any Captain of the 3rd Tallarn that embodies what ever it is they view as fulfilling this definition. And over the millenia, the second 'e' just got dropped in spelling and thus the pronunciation changed slightly. But; I still think it's the same guy and he just experienced some "Warp-F@#$ery" as they say.

Not necessarily. Remember many of them were permanently killed during the events of the Horus Heresy (Eldrad Ulthraan and Barthusa Narek made sure of that). Plus given how the Aeldari tend to have a better knowledge of such things given attuned they are to the skein of fate, if they believe Thawn to be the last then it's very likely that he is indeed the last.
