Colette's mother wanted to take her in the car to her boyfriend's house. The decision not to will have weighed very heavily on her all these years. I'm so glad the evil murderer was caught, and also glad that he died in prison very soon after being convicted. He ruined Colette's family, and also his own - his wife & children knew nothing of this. RIP Colette.❤️

It’s difficult to believe that this was his only S_x__L attack. He was arrogant enough to taunt the investigators. He concocted elaborate ruses to hide periodic absences from his family. So we know that Hutchinson first assaulted and then murdered Colette, then wrote a taunting letter to the police, then lied to his family about being ill for decades and then finally he blamed his dead brother for his own crime - how do such people even exist? And these are only a few of his deeds which we know, because with a mind like that, who knows what else he has done during all those years. Seriously, imagine disovering that your son, your brother, your husband or, the worst of all, your own father are a murdering sociopath! Truly unbelievable.

At least his son contributed in getting that monster apprehended, by submitting his dna. This case may not have ever been solved without his aid. On a side note, they had multiple witnesses who had seen the killer that night, why did the police never try to design some sort of photo identification process of people in the area. It may not be a guaranteed success, but in this case, it would have easily solved the crime because the killer lived right next to the crime scene.

I was only 9 when this happened but I’ll never forget. We lived in Keyworth at the time, the murderers car was found on our road. I was a pupil at Willow Brook and we went to school as normal in the morning but when it was home time the playground was full of parents. I clearly remember my Mum was dressed in black and had obviously been crying. Never again was I allowed to walk to or from school alone again. Keyworth was full of fear and suspicion for many years. So sorry to the family for what they’ve had to go through. Thankful that the monster was discovered and is now gone.

I was 9 too, living in Brazil then. Now, my home is Germany. Today, after reading and watching about this horrific crime, it brings me back the memory of a schoolmate who once was my best friend in school. She was assassinated, 14 years old, a month before her 15th birthday. Colette's smile and face features reminded me of my lovely friend, Joecy. We used to hang out together in school, under a mango tree, to have a snack together and talk about our dreams... 😢 sometimes I think about so many things and people that crossed my path, and I think about her, and I pray she is in peace. Her murderer is now at large, didn't stay in jail. Her mother, when she meets me, every time I visit my hometown, remembers her daughter, and it's painful to be around her or talk to her. Till today she misses her so so much. She has other two kids, but Joecy was the oldest. If she were alive, she would be around 50. I wonder what person she would be, what kind of mother? I will never know. I just hope she is with the Almighty Father in Heavens. One day, I hope to see her again and give her a big hug. May God bless you. ❤💞🙏 may God bless Colette and her family.

There's still a lot of unsolved murders from that era. I like to think that those who initially got away with are plagued by worry every time they hear about another case being solved, wondering if they are going to be next. If some old sample is going to get re-tested, if some relative will get arrested for a drunken fight and get their DNA taken.

Hutchinson was destined to be a sex offender. In 1972 I was a 9 year old boy holidaying with my family at Bashley Holiday Park in the New Forest. Hutchinson was there with his parents. He befriended me, and I still have photographs of us playing together. However, a game of hide and seek in the woods turned out to be a strange and unpleasant experience for me, and also in the swimming pool changing rooms. Years later, I was horrified to learn of his offending - but not totally surprised.

1983- Nottingham Shire- 16 year old Collette Aram disappeared on her way to see her boyfriend. Her lifeless body was found next day by a driver lying nude one a field. Collette had been raped and strangled to death. Two teen girls described a stranger who had followed them on the day of the murder. Collette’s rape and murder remained a mystery for 25 years by then DNA profiling had advanced and police were able to identify the DNA profile of Collette’s killer in 2008. The killer was convicted in 2009 but he died in prison in 2010 and he was free for 27 years and died only an year after he went to jail. Don't know why you had to repeat all that but the justice is that he was found guilty. There's also justice in the fact that everyone knows. I used to adamant about the death penalty until I researched further and found so many cases where someone was wrongfully charged, set-up and put to death only to find the real killer later....and in some cases there was political or police corruption involved. I couldn't bare a loved one (or indeed myself) being wrongfully accused and then killed. 1 innocent person killed by death penalty is too many. NOTE: At 8:00 a.m. on 10 October 2010, 9 months after his sentencing and after 18 months in custody, Hutchinson was found unconscious in his cell at Nottingham Prison. Paramedics were called and tried to resuscitate him. He died at 9:58 a.m. in an ambulance on the way to hospital. It is believed he took an overdose of medication, but a post mortem examination was inconclusive. Hutchinson's daughter told the inquest he had asked his wife to come and meet him in prison the day before he died, but she did not attend the meeting.

I don't agree. The Police in this case did very well and I won't knock them, but sometimes the Police are more fixated on getting a successful prosecution and closing a case than finding the truth. This happened to me when I was falsely accused of criminal damage to the car of someone I was having problems with. Any answer that I gave to their questions that did not fit in with what they wanted to hear, were either ignored or twisted to a different meaning. In the end they did not have enough evidence to proceed with the case, but after that experience of being interviewed by Police, if it ever happens again I will always do a "No Comment" interview and I have advised my relatives to do the same. You do not have to prove you are innocent and it is dangerous to talk to Police. They are NOT your friends. They do NOT want to give you a chance to give your side of the story. They want to get a prosecution and get the credit. That helps their careers.@@hotpotato4027

This is one of the many horrible crimes that have been commited, my sympathies to all concerned in this, my thoughts on this are a bit different, would the police of today spend 26 years trying to solve a case or would they simply run out of resources after a few weeks?????? Well done to the police in this case though, they did a marvelous job!!!!!!!!

Such a sad case, poor Collette, also those other two girls who could have been one of his victims, what a monster. I read he took an overdose in prison, to be honest I'm glad he did, it always bugs me when people like this can go on living after they did something like this. I also thought of his two brothers, they cooperated, there was no mention of what they are like but if they are decent guys I bet they feel ashamed being a brother to him, plus he tried to blame his dead brother too.

It’s a bit ludicrous to me to separate scientific advancements from police work. Since the beginning of forensics these two have been closely linked. Obviously science is now so advanced that one person (here:the detective on the streets) CANNOT do the lab work themselves. But the people who work the files and send in the materials for testing ARE the police. Without the police this case would very obviously not have been solved.

I live in Nottingham though a good distance from keyworth . It’s a quiet village quite upmarket where everyone knows each other … and their business. The bastard did well to hide in plain site thus. He had a wholesale newspaper delivery business I believe and was involved in youth football / hosted big barbecues for neighbours etc i recollect. Don’t most of these sort ? I bet a fair few locals were embarrassed after it came out ie enjoying the hospitality of a “ snadhing bloje / rapist + murderer “ ! Anaing how he just did it the once: what stopped him from becoming a “ serial predator “ 🤔
