Richard Trenton Chase was an American serial killer and cannibal who killed six people in Sacramento, California, from December 1977 to January 1978. He was nicknamed The Vampire of Sacramento because he drank his victims' blood and cannibalized their remains. But how was he caught?

He knew he was sick and feebly tried to get help but kept getting released. The psychologists were desperate to keep him because they knew how incredibly messed up he was but were forced to release him.If mental health institutions weren’t so lacking in the 70s, so much of these problems could have been avoided. LP on the Left has an EXCELLENT episode on this case. Very detailed and well researched. So so sad for these victims.

A rather peculiar fellow, Richard Chase.

I wonder if he had that rare mental disorder where people either think they are already dead but still walking round like a living corpse, or that they are dying because something is happening to their body. ( things like their liver is turnibg to jerky, or their brain is shriviling up. Odd things like that and that they have to do something specific to stop it.) Could have sworn that i read someplace that Chase was convinced his blood was turning into a powder, hence why he drank blood. Cant remember what that me tal disorder was called, but its relatively new as far as having been discovered by therapists.

Ya I swear I’ve heard that before. Something about the feeling of wasting away and needing life force of another in the form of blood mostly so they don’t decay or something. It’s a strange psychosis.

Being involved in this industry over 30 years, I've seen dismemberments, decomp, innards removed eaten and a WHOLE lot more that I won't disgust you with. This guy, however, actually is in the top 5 of the most depraved and most horrific monsters of all time. Well done on the documentary!

@@michaeldaniel73Right? I'm 46 so by now I never had them but that's ok. I'm good with my rescued cats and dogs. My friends from school have children in their early/mid twenties now and they're so scared for them. And I want to make it clear that I'm not against having children but it was a responsiblity that I knew I never wanted. Have a great weekend!

@@edyann yah, and I just turned 50, and many people I grew up with got married, had children, and got divorced. I would rather never have married than gotten divorced

9:02 🫠 isn’t it *ironic* {and mildly depressing, in it’s own right} that had this Same individual instead been born into the right tribe//tribal culture, he would have likely been *ReVeReD* for these same habits & tendencies as a *ShaMaN* -> not Shunned as a Psychopath and locked in a cage for the rest of his life… 🙃

I think so. He was insane but he also knew right from wrong. If he didnt know right from wrong why did he run from the police when they came to his apartment. And he wore gloves when committing his Crimes.
