Rylan was me in college. I have never related to a song so much. The loneliness, the awkwardness, the superiority complex born as a result. My mom's heart was always broken because I could never be "normal", though ironically she was pretty much directly responsible for my low self esteem and social anxiety. I was depressed for the better part of my teenage years because I never felt like I fit in. Today I am much better due to medication and healing through independence and a healthy, supportive relationship. I do still feel the Rylan inside me creep out every now and then, but I am in the process of letting go. Thank you so much for this masterpiece, I will never forget about this song.

[Verse 1] Rylan, you should try to get some sun You remind me of everyone Rylan, did you break your mother's heart? Every time you tried to play your part [Chorus] Is it easy to keep so quiet? Everybody loves a quiet child Underwater, you're almost free If you wanna be alone, come with me [Verse 2] Rylan, we can take the quick way out We can turn blank white in a blank white house Say that you're a pervert, you're a vulture Don't you wanna be popular culture? [Chorus] Is it easy to keep so quiet? Everybody loves a quiet child Underwater, you're almost free If you wanna be alone, come with me Is it easy to live inside yourself? All the little kids are high and hazy Everybody's got nowhere to go Everybody wants to be amazing [Bridge] Rylan, California's rotten Dress light blue to be forgotten Eat your pearls on Sunday morning Keep your conversations boring Stay with me among the strangers Change your mind and nothing changes Don't let show any emotion When you climb into the ocean [Outro] Rylan, you should try to get some sun There's a little bit of hell in everyone Rylan, you should try to get some sun You remind me of everyone Rylan, you should try to get some sun There's a little bit of hell in everyone Rylan, you should try to get some sun source: genius lyrics

@@rrrrrrr-0000 Oh man to that point, some of the songs live have full on rock breakdowns that would make any band jealous, terrible love with Matt running through the crowd, belting out the vocals amidst a crescendo of guitars and cymbal crashes comes to mind - ironically enough Alwways(who they're touring with) was another band who's live element had such a punk rock feel that I never really got from their records( incredible albums btw) both are shows not to be missed !

The National can do no wrong in my eyes but I do miss the rock vibe of Boxer, Alligator, those ones. Kudos to them for experimenting and expanding into a whole new world with this new album, but I'd love it if they could rein things back a bit and delve deeper into the sonorous landscape of all the albums that came before 'Trouble Will Find Me'.
@jeanmouton96235 жыл бұрын
I feel like they have done as much with their rock sound as they possibly can. I don't think they'll be able to match the raw energy of Alligator at this stage of their career, so I would rather have them experimenting a bit more like on the new album and SWB. But I do hope that the looser feel of Alligator returns one-day. I think IAETF could've been a bit better if it didn't sound as tightly produced. Rylan though, is just amazing.
