The Necessity Of Sadness

🔰 This poem is the work of Mikael de Lara Co (Original Title "On the Necessity of Sadness), a poet that I had the luck to stumble upon on the Internet a few months ago. I urge you to check more of his poetry work. I don't want to spoil the experience by polluting it with my opinion but a theme in his poetry that intrigued me is the way he breaks the fourth wall and acknowledges the readers of the poem.
In this video, you can see my friends and in fact, some of the shots were shot by them while playing with my camera. In other words, It wouldn't be possible to make this without them.

Let me tell you about longing.
Let me presume that I have something new to say about it
that this room, naked, its walls pining for clocks,
has something new to say about absence.
Somewhere the crunch of an apple,
fading sunflowers on a quilt,
a window looking out to a landscape with a single tree.
And you sitting under it.
Let go, said you to me in a dream,
but by the time the wind carried your voice to me,
I was already walking through the yawning door,
towards the small, necessary sadnesses of waking.
I wish I could hold you now,
but that is a line that has no place in a poem,
like the swollen sheen of the moon tonight,
or the word absence,
or you,
or longing.
Let me tell you about longing.
In a distant country, two lovers are on a bench,
and pigeons, unafraid, are perching beside them.
She places a hand on his knee
and says, say to me the truest thing you can.
I am closing my eyes now.
You are far away.

Beautiful poem and beautiful video production on it. I love the title “necessity of sadness”. And the point on longing. Sadness serves a great purpose contrary to western view. And longing is what brings us closer to the essence and beauty of life, the heart, the soul. Longing is the Sufi and mystic way actually. As Rumi said why fasting is important: a hungry man is constantly searching. A full fed man expects nothing to arrive. Without sadness we cannot know what happiness really is. It creates a balance. A necessary humbling to keep us closer to the essence of humanity.

was just crying in the bathroom at 12:20am about missing my dad. i rarely ever think of him, since my parents divorced when i was 4 because he was addicted to drugs. he died when i was 9 due to a car crash. i dont even remember his personality. i just remember a vague appearance of his stature. he always felt like a lanky giant to me. i had put on his large beige sweater with a inner lining of warm cotton. it feels like a big hug. &i looked in the mirror & i stayed crying. i miss his hug. i dont even remember his hug. & that's what pains me most. i dont remember my own dad. watched this video about 5 min after crying. perfect timing, yt recommendation. ty for putting together a great poet's work & creating a beautiful cinematography for it

My fiancee died less than a month ago.he’s greek.like in the images,only left are worn out sighs and weeping when im alone,regrets for not telling him enough how much i love him.photographs and videos,of us,of him.14 yrs and when finally we decided to get married by May,he was killed in a motorcycle accident a month before.i still pretend he’s with me,talking to him sometimes.i still havent washed his worn clothes,trying to smell his scent.its hurts too much like my heart is about to burst

I can't imagine the kind of pain you are going through right now. I cannot feel your pain but can understand it because I did lose someone who I loved like anything. From the first shot I recognised something Greek about the place. I've seen such places where everything is considered common and uninteresting; rotten, vandalised and dirty.
