My neurologist husband died 6 years ago of hemorrhagic stroke at 61. I find these videos comforting & share with my son. We both agree you nailed him. They capture his idiosyncrasies, even as they miss the humanity( don't tell anyone, he put the trash out every Tuesday) lurking underneath his Neurologist persona. As an ICU nurse I would say, "We don't do Neuro checks if the heart isn't perfusing!" He would retort, "Who cares if the heart is beating if the brain isn't working?" It has been years ago. There was a newly minted intern who was to evaluated a patient on the medicine service. At that time, it was a BIG DEAL to order a CT scan.of the brain. They weren't doing them on the rest of the body yet (yea, it has been a long time). Said intern found what he thought was a neurological deficit involving the cerebellum and ordered the EXPENSIVE CT. Meanwhile, whilst waiting for the CT, a neurologist evaluated the patient and felt the CT was a big waste. Anyway, the patient had a cerebellar tumor. Then there was the radiologist who, as I recall, said a CT was worth a couple of neurologists.

I had a stroke from a neck injury at 30 years old and these med students came to my room whilst the neurologist consulted me and they all together looked absolutely terrified while taking notes at the same time. "At least she isn't combative due to being confused, that is due to the stroke being in the cerebellum, so the thing you need to worry about is her brain controlling her breathing," he said to them as they left my room. Dunno if I took comfort in that truth or not.

"...and if I see you checking reflexes with a stethoscope, I'm going to beat you to death with it." Neurologist doesn't even TRY to hide his anger issues. He's just barely reigned in sociopathic rage and unbridled narcissistic condescension. Then there's neurosurgery...a stone-cold psychopath who, despite all his knowledge and fearlessness, can't quite grasp what a professional "relationship" with another human being should feel like...not even his own brother. I know a neuropsychiatrist whose own brother is also a highly accomplished physician, and they entire family is just one group of highly accomplished, highly competitive...let's call them "over-achievers" to be nice. Their parents are, as expected, the very people who created this highly competitive sibling rivalry, as all narcissistic parents tend to do. It's actually quite sad to know kids grow up with such savage parents. Imagine infants and toddlers being raised to compete for their parents' approval. Heartbreaking to think of little ones growing up like that.
