Just got mine.... with 8k in rebates!!! I am IN LOVE!!! I turned in a 2020 Outlander PHEV lease..... the 2023 version is a completely different car. Luxury touches everywhere.... it is SO responsive. This might be my forever car!!

Regarding the 3rd row bouncing over speed bump, there is a Velcro strap at the rear left corner to secure the seat. I don’t blame you though. I only found that out 2 weeks after my ownership into this car.

We have had ours for almost 6 months now and I never noticed the 3rd row bounce. So thanks to your video and the comment from @crazylala2003 I learned something new about the car today! I now have the 3rd row seat secured with the Velcro strap. 😊

We've owned one of these for about 3 months now and love it. The third-row bouncing is definitely a warranty item ours does not move up and down at all unless you put it up. You also forgot to mention one of the coolest almost hidden features is it has headlight washers built-in that's what those rectangles are next to the headlights

We've had the vehicle 3 months. It had 3300 miles when we got it. It's the Launch Edition, and we really like it. We had a 2018 Outlander phev, but it was really uncomfortable! We traded it in, and things were fine until yesterday. My husband got in it to go to work, and it won't start. We called Roadside Assistance, and we waited 5 hours before the tow company asked to come in the morning. It was 12:30 am, so it was fine. The Roadside Assistance hung up on me many times. The tow truck couldn't get it started. We had to contact Roadside Assistance again to tow it. They finally got it to the dealership. The dealership says it's the battery, but the tow guy didn't think so. It still wouldn't start even attached to another vehicle with jump cables and a battery charger. It just clicked. Mitsubishi released a vehicle with a vibrating hood that doesn't have any parts (batteries, filters, floor mats, etc). They're going to try a different vehicle's battery. They have yet to offer a rental or loaner or anything else. Our brand new vehicle doesn't work, and no one can be bothered to call us or be helpful. I pray it's just the battery, but I seriously doubt it. Now, we are not going to feel comfortable with the vehicle because we'll be worried it will continue. I tried contacting Mitsubishi, but they haven't responded at all. It's obvious they stopped giving a crap when they got paid. The dealership acted like we were crazy when I called them telling them it was dead, and they tried blaming us for leaving it on or causing the problem. This is our second Mitsubishi, and depending on whether or not they take care of the problem potentially our last.

Re the fuel consumption, and the "brake feel" issue. I suspect that if you made more use of the different regenerative braking levels, B1 to B5, you would have achieved much better fuel consumption results. You didn't mention the paddle shifters and the different regenerative brake settings at all...

Driving from Washington DC to Buffalo, in Buffalo and back to DC, in winter conditiins with 3 passengers and electric charging in Buffalo - 32 miles per gallon. With driving in drifting snow on all wheel mode with packed skies is very much OK, in my opinion.

I like your review style, new sub here! I read somewhere that the EV badges on the sides are for first emergency responders so they know they’re dealing with a car that has a battery pack and take the necessary precautions in case of an accident.

Just to clarify you, Mitsubishi put that EV badge around it for the towing vehicles so they know in the first go that it is an EV drive. Otherwise, if they towed it in the wrong way then its powertrain can be damaged beyond repair.

Wait a few days after you drive it you can't stop thinking about it. Its been a year since I drive it and it's the best overall car I've driven other than Nissan aryia. Nissan aryia is all electric so I would rather the phev. Its really nice inside too. I love it waiting for a sick sale I can't refuse

I think you ignored one thing in your review, it is alright off road vehicle. It will never be like a LandCruiser or hilux, but it is quiet capable off road. This car is for those people who commute to work and couple weeks a year they might do some off roading

Hahaha. I do heaps of off roading in mine. I go up the beach 4 wheel driving every second week and I live on a farm and use it for towing trailers for my landscaping business. They are way more capable that most people would guess. I take mine through creek crossings and all sorts of places. Perhaps watch some of the off road tests and reviews if you find it hard to believe. Lll

I love your channel guys. I honestly like the Outlander, it looks pretty sleek. To be honest, here in the states (at least in my region), I forgot Mitsubishi even made road cars still. I know they make machines for heavy industries, but you really don't see them on the road here.

MOst reviewers make a big mistake: they emphasize the electric only range. NO. A PHEV is meant to run COMBINED !!!!

The main point for me is to do as much work and daily driving in fully electric mode to save load of. fuel money. . I only use the petrol motor alot on long trips

They don't technically call it an EV, they just make the "Plugin Hybrid" font much smaller than the EV font below it, but it is a PHEV.

Do these NEW models, feature what I deem to be essential items. The little handles at the back on the upper rear trim, each side. Which operate the 2nd row seat mechanisms, to flip the seats over, into compact mode, to allow the rear seating area to have excellent leg room (if a four seater is all you want) or with the 3rd row packed down for goods loading, you can load goods into the back and flip the 2nd row seats FROM the rear tailgate area to expand the goods loaded area. I am about to experiment with mine (after the end of Jan 2024, when the repayments expire & I own it outright) - after discovering that steelie 15's don't fit, so the 7 spare Delica 15" M&S tires (new and near new) that I bought just before it tossed it's 5th gear and stuffed the transmission forever - leaving me with 7 new & near new rubber, that doesn't fit anything (even though the physical outer dimensions match the 18" low profiles on the Outlander - which is why I bought the steelies hoping they would clear the callipers - but nah - buggah, they don't. So - now will be the time to start selling off what I cannot use, and maybe make another trailer (I have two Mitsi Legnums, one without the running gear - but hey it was bought for parts only, until - yep the better Legnum died on the road one day in wet weather driving, towing an empty 9but heavy) trailer, and I floored it to get going up a slight rise (small hill / bump) - when it simply died - for real, as I slammed it down through the gears, before remembering to use NEUTRAL and let the trailer push me over the hill, & round a blind corner, to get it fully off to the side - in a wide parking area, with vehicles behind me, & in driving rain too. Sat there I was, on the side, and couldn't restart the car. Had to call the AA for a tow truck to load the car onto (a rollback) so that they could legally tow the trailer. Thankfully I have return to home from anywhere in NZ insurance cover - so getting the AA to haul it home was a breeze. Far better than simply taking it to the nearest town, and trying to arrange something else to drive, without any hire companies in that "other" town, on a weekend (everything else shut). Much better to have the trailer home safe, and the stuffed car in the back of the drive while I searched for something else - & oh look (at the same dealer I bought the Delica from, 18 years prior, in 2002) a VERY low km vehicle - maybe old at 2005 but hey - 4wd too and available (just to market). So I rang the owner (after hours see) and arranged for him to bring it to me, to view, and so drove him home in it (towing the trailer behind) to sign all the paperwork - and simply "carry-on" with the collecting of a trailer load of "board-room" tables & chairs I had bought from somewhere else. I love my 2005 Outlander - as it's so much quieter than the Delica, has now just turned over it's 1st hundred thousand, plus it's at just the right height to slide in and out of, instead of hauling my weighty body HIGH UP to get inside the 4wd Delica. That would now be a major problem as I lost a foot and my lower leg with a medical event that left me with no LEFT foot ? As I am a BKA now (Below Knee Amputee). - Unlike the Legnum where one had to physically drop into (and struggle to climb out of?) Also impossible given my new current physical condition (of no left foot). But hey at a handsomely LOW "4 & a half price" (NZ$450 to be exact) - the Legnum was only ever a temporary "runner" replacement - after the Delica died (at nearly half a million kms). - I also see, the NEW 2023 model has a different door handle design? Key entry I see. No auto-unlock / back of handle sensors there I bet - as those get wet when it rains - enough to flatten the battery overnight. My one has that amazing (anti-theft) feature, where the motor cannot be started, (or the doors unlocked either) when it rains for 12 - 24 hours, as the stupid capacitance type "moving/limit" switches inside the rear of the two front door handles - short themselves out when wet, killing a brand new battery - overnight.!!!!!! Although - I solved that problem right quick, after two auto-electricians failed to find it, one replacing an alternator, the other rewiring the steering wheel audio controls into the aux wiring..? What I did was amazing as I didn't need to disconnect anything. All I did was buy a couple of magnetic-backed / desktop pads, and slapped them onto the outside of the doors above and covering the two front handles, so that rain & snow etc., doesn't get them wet - hence they stay dry - keeping the battery fully charged - problem finally solved.

2:10 The reason its not evenly split is because its not the same on both ends of the vehicle. The 2.4 motor can only power the front wheels, there is no driveshaft going to the rear, so the rear wheels are purely electric motor. So front is gas engine + tiny electric motor combined power and rear is big electric motor only, so they aren't identical in power output.

No, the gas engine hasn't a connection with the tires, it only charges the battery and supplies the motors with electricity directly while hard acceleration or hight speed.

Series Hybrid Powertrain, same chassis as Rogue but 3 rows, that's why dealers have this car in stock and not too many people really want it.

It's neither EV nor Nice Hybrid with a decent fuel economy. I own a Lexus 350h with an average mileage of 40 MPG without charging it all. Why do I need to spend 60K CAD for this thing when I can buy Lexus for that Money? I know Calgary's Mitsubishi dealers have a LOT of Outlander PHEV stock, as this vehicle is overpriced by a lot and missed the mark.

Their sales are actually climbing up, this new Outlander is a hit plus their other products as well that aren't sold in the U.S are also a hit like the Xpander, Triton/L200/Strada and the Pajero Sport/Montero Sport/Shogun Sport/Challenger, the Triton and the Pajero Sport can't be sold in the U.S because of chicken tax, the only way to avoid that is to produce it locally in the U.S, right now Mitsubishi doesn't have any factories in the U.S, the only way around it is for Nissan to make it for them.

Just note to EV / Hybrid oweners. Dont fast charge your car if unless you really have to. Fast charging destroys the lifetime faster.

@@Liams_Fraser_Island_adventures IN other words, it works in serial mode for small speeds and parallel mode for big speeds. In serial mode the electric motors are coupled with the wheels. The generator, spinned by the gas engine, generates current for electric motors and battery. In parallel mode, the gas engine is coupled directly on wheels, the electric motors assist only. In SCHOOL it is learned that efficiency of a good gas engine is about 45%, the efficiency of an electric motor is around 80%. But electric motors give power at small speeds while gas engine gives power at big speeds. So when 1 category of motors is efficient, the other category in inefficient and vice versa. This is why it is ran COMBINED.

I emigrated from Romania to U.S. I was LITERALLY STUNNED when I found out that 2/3 of high schoolers don't study physics at all. Which means they have a VERY low understanding of the surrounding world. Cannot put them to jobs more complicated than bringing food, bringing packages, sell hotdogs in the street ... Crapy jobs like these ones.

It sure does!! Consider this: summer road trip with your dogs. You can have the battery in "save mode" and just run on gas for the long stretches of driving... but now you want to have a sit down lunch except it's 100 degrees outside. Now you have a fully charge battery and you can put it in "EV mode" and leave the doggos in the car with the ac and some light jazz while you eat. Or Elvis, if they prefer. But wait!! You got back on the highway and forgot to switch it back to "save" mode and just drained the battery! No problem. You can put the battery in "charge" mode and recharge it with the gas engine... and still have a full battery when you hit the campsite and want to plug in your blender for campfire margaritas. It's a lifestyle car, for sure.

It's a great concept. If you have excess solar generation at home and don't commute large distances & Charging for free at home In south Australia (where I live) electricity is so expensive (60c kw) , it cost more to travel 100 km in EV mode than it does in petrol only mode with petrol costing $2/lt It would be fantastic if our state & federal governments could get their act together & approve the VTG & VTH legislation & home hardware installation so that the 20 kw battery could be used to power the home inverter in the event of prolonged blackout. It would run Freezer, Fridge, TV, Lighting & Air conditioning for the dogs. Nothing surer as global climate change increases then more major power blackouts will happen every where. In Short Bloody marvelous Tech vehicle & F*N good looking too. @@m8trxd

Engine should have been downsizeed to 1.6 or 1.8 cc. 2.4 is too inefficient to run with a depleted battery

That 3rd row is just so ridiculous. It isn’t usable unless you have very small children and it cannot be removed. So for most customers, that’s just dead weight to carry around impacting efficiency. Mitsubishi really should have considered the bragging rights of a huge added storage space in the cargo area. If they really want to sell a 3-row SUV in North America, they need a new and much bigger model catering to the family customers who need it.

Same in PA many Mits PHEVs on lots here. I have a Honda CRV Hybrid and get 44 MPG see no need for a PHEV right now. Got my 22 CRV for under 32k.

Of course this is NOT what a PHEV is. A PHEV is designed to work with classic engine COMBINED with electric engines. Why ? For more EFFICCIENCY. When car needs acceleration, electric motors are very good. When it needs power over weight, the classic engine is very good. They complete one each other to achieve EFFICIENCY.

DC fast charging with an outdated chademo format is a complete waste of time which defeats the whole concept of a PHEV where if you run out of charge, you can seamlessly just switch to gas. Why pay a ridiculous price for a charge which is extremely slow even with the DC fast charge?

The average consumer dosen't care about speed, they need to get from point A to point B, which this does quite well.

The engine is a generator, if you put a more powerful engine in that then it would not make any difference, the wheels are driven by 2 electric motors 1 in each axel, 114HP and 188lb-ft in the front and around 134HP and 144lb-ft in the back which makes it a rear wheel drive biased car, full power in power mode is 248HP and 332lb-ft, the engine in this Outlander can directly drive the front wheels via a single speed trans-axle GKN Multi-Mode E-Transmission but mostly only in cruising, in accelerating, the engines job is to produce electricity plus this N/A MIVEC 2.4 Inline 4 is not as stressed as high output small turbo 4 bangers and it's proven and tested.

Sorry, can't compare it to the volvo. 455hp vs 248 is a big difference. A cvt and a bigger battery pack do not achieve the 42 miles range of the volvo. Fake amenities, and flashy plastic do not make it premium either. Maybe you should have compare it to the hyundai Tuscan instead

If I was looking to buy an SUV , and I'm not . I would save $40,000 and buy a Jeep Cherokee XJ from the 90s . And spend some money on making it a reliable vehicle . A vehicle like this probably won't ever even make it to second ownership status .

PHEVs hold their value quite well I recently bought a 2014 PHEV and it cost around $9000 more than the diesel or petrol equivalent...Having said that even though I love the car when road user charges go on them in my country next year its really going to put a damper on owning one....An extra $7.60 out of pocket per 100km it pretty much closes the savings gap over a petrol vehicle for this particular car.
