Quick note on the tuning comparison at 5:10 - I was accustomed to the Bravura's linear breath curve and overblew my Night by Noble on that demo. The Night by Noble IS sharper than the Bravura, but not by as much as it seems in the video. Thanks again for watching!

i have both. I like the focalink more because the hand positioning is more comfortable, the windway is longer. The flat surface for the right hand helps me, and the sub holes are less breath sensitive. The tone is the same but tuning is also more accurate
@rickypoon64062 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I also got both but dislike the Bravura's flat surface. It made it harder for my fingers to find and maintain the right position -- I could slide around.

I have owned multiple Bravura Focalinks.. They are great for plastic.. I am an ultra High breath pressure Player and find the highest note is very airey.. Haven't tried Noble. But it's my next "plastic" buy. I will say my favorite is the Passacaglia Bass by STL.. GREAT tone and earthy Feel. I am a Park Ranger and love to entertain Nature campers with Songs with The STL P Bass!!

Dang! I kind of need that Bravura for my "travel" collection. I absolutely need that nice black aesthetic when showing off the instrument to friends and coworkers. I think the reason why so many people in my circle have taken the instrument so seriously around me is BECAUSE it has this more "professional" look about it. And the Night By Noble's breath pressure has been something I've struggled with. So maybe this Bravura is the answer to my calls!

Now if they'd only make the Osawa in the black as well. The shape and feel of it is said to be so much nicer.

Nice review! I play my green Bravura the most because it stays in my car at all times. But I did buy the black one just because it is exclusive to Songbird and I can show off to my Asian friends that I have a black one. Nana nana boo boo. 😆 I prefer the Night by Noble and even the regular Noble because the Bravura tends to wet out quickly. I don't really have many issues with condensation on Nobles.
@gausscone3 жыл бұрын
Interesting observation about the Bravura collecting moisture compared to the Night, I've also seen this exact sentiment on an Amazon review or two. Has anyone any idea why this might be? What saves the Night? Is the Night's chamber just more open and aerodynamic or is it perhaps something to do with interior texture or thickness? A difference in sound does indicate a difference internally.
@brendakauffman8133 Жыл бұрын
@@gausscone My night by Noble collects condensation regularly, and I have to do a blow out frequently while playing. The Bravura may have more of an issue with it though.

Yes and the Night by Noble is a soprono C whereas the songbird Bruvura or Osawa are both an Alto C. I find the night by noble to be very shrill. I went on the suggestion to go with the cheapest option and I do regret the purchase, even though it has good tone quality and looks amazing. It's sharp and it's shrill.

I have a Bravura but I think Focalink's other plastic Ocarina is better, it's called 12ACP-rivo on their website. Can't seem to find them anywhere else for some reason. They have grooves for the subholes, making fingering low notes easier. It's also easier to blow the high notes than the Bravura. Honestly, if anyone is thinking of getting a Bravura, the rivo(?) is a better choice for a beginner. I would've just bought them in the first place if I had known.

Hey I was wondering if you ever seen these plastic ocarinas on amazon called, [Plastic Ocarina Instrument 12 Hole Alto C Ocarina 12-Hole Zelda Ocarina Instrument Easy Instrument for Children, Beginners]?. They look awfully a lot like the night noble ocarinas but with more different friendly colors and missing the Nights by Noble logo, like someone copied the mold. I know they wont sound anything like the real Nights Noble, or the Focalink, or even the STL plastic ocarinas, especially since the price is only $13 compared to the real night noble's price of around $30 to $40 and the other plastic ocarinas, but since it looks just like the night noble ocarinas and the price is lower, I'm really interested in what they sound like. Maybe you can possibly get one by chance and do a review on it in the possible future?

I'm just picking up the ocarina for the first time (aside from a pendant one I bought at a fair once as more of a whistle and show piece than instrument). I have purchased a plastic bass from STL and the night by noble. And I've more been playing around with them than any genuine practicing but I've recently thought of a question. How does a new player start to learn what amount of air pressure is right for a particular ocarina. I played the trombone through jr high and highschool so I have a bit of musical knowledge, but I never had a good ear for tuning or anything like that. So what would be a good way to know if I am over blowing or underblowing the ocarinas - I am beginning to think I might be overblowing a bit when I play (thinking to how I was trained to apply a lot of pressure for a trombone and this is a bit smaller), but I don't really know how to tell for certain (and I haven't actually played the trombone in years so I probably don't have any of that skill actually built up anymore)

@AndyCormierYT3 жыл бұрын
I would definitely recommend a 12 hole as your first ocarina to learn on. The songbird 7 hole instruments have a unique fingering pattern that doesn't carry over super well to other ocarinas, aside from a lot of commonality with 6-hole pendants

Question: I've been learning to play Orcarina for a while and I have a plastic STL 12 hole (the blue Zelda one) and I am noticing that when I play for more than 10-20 minutes it starts to lose tone and become unplayable from moisture. Is this a common problem and is there a way for me to fix this? I'm more accustomed to string instruments so I'm not sure if my mouth is just too moist while playing and this is a me problem or if I'm playing incorrectly and there's something I can adjust to fix this. Thanks in advance
@AndyCormierYT3 жыл бұрын
It's not a you problem - some ocarinas trap more moisture than others. To fix it, just cover the fipple hole completely (the hole sound comes out of) and blow hard into the instrument to clear the moisture. Make sure it's completely covered or you might make an unexpected, loud tone!

Andy isn't night by Noble a soprano C, and Bravura is an alto C? I think you've often advised people not to by a soprono ocarina for the first buy, so I'm confused why you regularly recommend the Night by Noble. I bought the night by noble and I found the notes to be a bit shrill. I will admit that Night by Noble I got at Amazon for $27.00. It does have a nice sound, but I find I'm very sensitive to the higher notes which is quit disappointing. I think the Night by Noble has a nicer finish and look. Can you do a review on the Focalink Osawa. Many people like the feel of the Osawa better than the Bravura. Of course the Osawa is not made in black yet which I think is disappointing.
@AndyCormierYT Жыл бұрын
The Night by Noble is an Alto C. They have a Soprano C model, and I think it may be an option on the same Amazon listing, but that is a separate instrument. The Night by Noble and Bravura I compare in this video are the same range, Alto C, and I don't own the Soprano C Noble I'll look into the Osawa at some point as well!
