More like a reasonably sized small home for 2. Add in basement, loft and bedroom wing, that's about ~800 sq. feet. What you would expect in a modest apartment - which includes a loft where their kids/grandkids could sleep when visiting. 10x20 is "tiny home" size. You can do it, but it's simply not practical. The above, plus an outdoor screened in kitchen and porch is entirely comfortable and far more reasonable. People ask "how do you do it?" in a 200 sq. foot tiny house. Nobody asks that about 750-800 sq. feet. They just nod approvingly and say "nice".
@eleftheriosrizos82343 жыл бұрын
You can't really expect this to finish in 3 months. Its better to do this when its cold than when its hot anyway
@roberttrifts27373 жыл бұрын
@@eleftheriosrizos8234 It depends on how many trees Shawn has already debarked. He has the utility vehicle to move them into place - and a winch on that vehicle to lift them em up into place. Lifting ridge beam and purlins will be tricky but I do expect the walls will go up much faster than we think. Also depends if he builds door and window frames in place first or cuts them out of solid wall (more wasteful of material, but faster).

Are you going to put a loft in also ? That place will be so roomy for you and your lovely wife. My grandmother raised 11 children in a 30x30 cabin in Appalachia, it was pretty amazing how much room she had living basically a pioneer life style, When God called her home in 1984 she was still living there, using wood heat and cooking, had a gravity fed water faucet from the creek up the hill and one electric light. She was an amazing strong old woman. I love your show, pretty amazing what a hard working man on a mission can do.

The sketch of the interior that is shown in his building sketch video shows stairs up in the corner. While the loft isn't shown on that sketch, you don't build stairs to nowhere. As he has also mentioned a master bedroom wing, I presume the loft is for extra space for children/grandchildren sleeping when they visit - and whatever use Shawn and his wife have for it when it is not used for that, whether to sleep in during the winter, an office/den, etc. Everything about Shawn's Cabin 3.0 is more practical & realistic in its design. 800 sq feet vs 300 sq feet is a huge diff.

Dear Mr. James: I happen to see your other channel before this one. I am glad you decided to insulate the floor and use the blue stuff. I tend to postpone thinking I can go back and do it later, and I have to say that your way avoids many unforeseen situations. It is always best to finish as you go. You have a system of assembly I had not seen before , and I find the options enlightening. The blue stuff seems very workable and forgiving. I have not worked with it on walls but seen it applied on roofing . We wrap but prefer roofing 30 paper. It’s more forgiving I think. Never thought about grounding meat to make jerky. I would love to see how you do it. I admit, I have also learned about new ingredients and seasonings from your cooking. I am glad you grow them for they have medicinal benefits if needed. Thank you for your video. You are quite a photographer and film maker. Your taste in music is complementary and makes your videos quite an experience. You have talent sir. Thank you for sharing.

I noticed that Callie has been yawning. If she develops a cough or sniffles. Try cranberry juice in her water. And a little bit of honey. I add Italian herbs on wet dog food with a little walnut oil. Believe it or not, the dogs ask for it. The same remedies used for people can be used with research and a few exceptions on dogs. I give it once in a while. I make parsley tea and dilute it on their water. It keeps bacterial infections In the low. I alternate with cranberry juice or apple cider vinegar. Just a bit, not a lot. You do have to change the water out often. But keeps the vet at bay. Rosemary is said to help with dog itch, just in case it comes up. Thank you.

You mentioned a solar dryer. If I may suggest that if you are able and have a place to store materials- to buy what you need as sales and opportunity arises. Don’t know if your situation in Canada is the same- but in the USA, finding materials in stock is sometimes difficult. And having them shipped may have long waiting periods . I know you said something about next year. But inflation and politics are at play- and new covid variants are threatening world economies and production of supplies. The future is a bit uncertain. It’s difficult to plan ahead when you have a limited budget. Just a thought. I pray you succeed in your endeavors- it gives me encouragement . Thank you.

Amazing work, sharing and insight! After an absolutely manic day at work and coming back to a home still within the bounds of the concrete jungle this is THERAPY!!!! Thanks Shawn!

I like how you build on the fly by analyzing things as you go. Many times people design the entire thing before they start and get tunnel vision not allowing for consequences. Your method will yield a much better end result.

Lovage? What a great herb! And here I thought I was the only one on the face of the earth that grew lovage in my garden. The leaves are great for cooking and the stems, which are long, straight , round, and hollow have a strong celery flavor and make great straws for Bloody Marys!
