As an "old guy" (52), let me say a couple of things. I've been playing the drums since 1975, and started listening to the likes of the Beatles at around the age of 5. GVF seems to be the real deal. Will they pan out? Hard to say, at this point. That's their "journey", i.e. for them (and only them) to figure out. Also, they seem to have a strong sense of themselves as musicians. I believe one of the reasons is that they seem to really be in touch with, and appreciate those who came before them. They know about Howlin' Wolf and Albert King. In other words, they seem to have built a strong foundation of music, and that kind of thing usually adds tremendous value to a band. My two cents.

I personally thought it was a bit of a pretentious comment to make; to assert that rock music is superior, but unappreciated because it requires a certain amount of brain power that the average consumer is too lazy to tap into. The epitome of "I grew up in the wrong generation". Music is supposed to change over time. Blues/Rock guitar oriented music isn't as big as it used to be and that's not a bad thing at all. It also doesn't mean that people have stopped using their brains.

I disagree, the people are somewhat involved but the true killers of good music are the music industries, they realized that great artists cannot be controlled and can have a really big power on people so they started gradually lowering music level until this point where they literally sell you trash as greatness, they know its shit but they also know you will buy it because most people don't care about music as in how complex it is, they just care about how this makes them feel and people who don't understand music can feel almost anything.

I love these guys to bits. Sure, some of their songs sound a lot like Zeppelin, but that's mostly because A) Zeppelin brought upon us the golden age of rock n' roll, which is basically the ideal style to draw inspiration from, and B) Josh sounds a lot like Robert Plant, but I don't perceive it as an imitation; especially if you listen to him talk, you can kinda figure that the Plantish sound is indeed just how he gets the most power out of his voice. Nevertheless, if you listen to GvF's full album and their live performances, you can also discern a very distinctive and unique tone in his voice that clearly sets Josh apart from Plant.

I'm 11 years old and even though I grew up with modern music, I hate it. I recently discovered Led Zeppelin and they opened my mind to something great. I always get sad knowing their music won't be around in the future. But Greta Van Fleet, a new band, is bringing back the music that is the favorite of many people. It turns out that Led Zeppelin won't be gone after all.

Spotify helped me find quite a lot of modern rock, alternative, rock'n'roll bands like greta van fleet, royal blood, airbourne, badflower, rival sons, grandson, cage the elephant, band of skulls, highly suspect, temperance movement etc etc etc (I could name them endlessly). There are quite many amazing bands out there, you just need to take some effort to find them since they're not all widely known bands. But I agree on the topic of today's popular music, I noticed that a lot of people are getting into genres of pop, r'n'b, rap, which I'm personally not interested in. If I was asked to recognize any of the popular songs of today, I'd probably not know any of them

I remember just a few months ago, not being impressed with rock music as a genre in the future. I have three boys ages 15, 13, and 12. Two are in band at school, and all three are into rock and metal. They grew up listening to classic rock, and metal in my car. And it was to my 12 y/o that a few months back saying that I was hoping some of today's bands help bring back old school R&R. And then a month ago, I saw the vids for Safari Song, and Highway tune. I swear, I jumped out of my chair, and yelled to my 12 y/o, to come downstairs quick. Played these songs, bought the album, and now huge fans! It's a bit weird being 56 y/o and so into these guys. But, I don't give a damn!! They are so much of what we need in music!! I am so frickin happy! I know...this band is the beginning. BUT....the fact that they are here, will have kids coming up in school now...especially my kids, wanting to play like these young cats! Thanks, Gretta Van Fleet!!

LOUD Planet Look man please don’t defend rap against rock. I’m FULLY aware that Rap has the industry in the palm of their hands (even if I disagree with it). I will say this, I’m guessing your an 18-25 year old male, so you grow up in the 2000s and 2010s listening to rap because that’s what the industry produced, therefore you’ll be listening to rap for the rest of your life because it defined your age group. I’m 19 I was just born listening to rock that’s how it was, so I defend the genre because I have claimed it as my own just as you have claimed rap. Guess what though bro, one day rap is going to die, just as you think Rock has and you will be defending the dead body of rap when some artist breaks through the chains of the industry trying to revive it. This is how it is. So don’t shit on rock all the time just be happy that the music you enjoy is popular. And we’ll keep listening to the few guys that still play rock. Ps: Nirvana brought back rock in the 90s so revivals are not impossible.
@Lightning-gg5iu

Jackson Roemers Uh I don't think rap will die off too. It's been around since the 80s like rock and metal. Now what I do hope is the mumble rap crap will die off so the good rap music can be more well known instead it being underground like the good rock music

Lightning6475 I like you bro you’re reasonable. However, all music kind of dies off, or not dies but changes and evolves. Hard rock these days have taken the form of alternative you have bands like Vampire Weekend morphing genres together like world and reggae, Imagine Dragons who have electronic influences but still rock at its core. In this age where the internet is responsible for a lot of artists success, I guess your right, no music will die, there will always be people mixing genres together because home recording is just so good these days.

I can’t decide if I think these guys will push through the “Zeppelin copycat” critiques and go on to find their own sound (kinda like what happened to bands like Rush, Soundgarden, etc being compared to other bands at first) or if they will be a phase and eventually disappear (like Wolfmother). Clay Vernon well, it’s that I think they have been probably less than honest about it. Said they didn’t know Zep till High School. Saying they were influenced from nearly everyone and everything else it seems. Robert Plant knows it’s bs lol. I think it best to say you know Led Zeps been a massive influence, and who else is better?!?! And then, move your sound away from that central influence. It’s common with young bands to to heavily emulate, but it’s not wrong and I don’t think they are a “knock off” they are heavily HEAVILY influenced. Obvious. One thing that can be done on a non musical angle is the stage performance. Take in other qualities to again move away a bit of Zep (especially Robert Plant). But again, they are kids, they can grow into more of their own thing.

ditto to ben, it evolved into the ramones, the strokes, the white stripes...it fractured into different subdivisions. it was never silent. I'm not putting gvf down, but you have admit (to use your analogy) that they're grasping a torch that's already been grasped, and instead of making use of the innovations made to the genre since the 70s they've just decided to start at the beginning. again, not totally a put down, but there is a huge difference between their vibe in the highway tune music video (there was a little punk there, a little beastie boys even maybe?) and in when the curtain falls and their newest album when they decided to just completely fall back in time to the 60s

+ Emilio Idiot, Agreed. Every rock band or singer has been influenced or stole something from another musician. That's how the music business works. At least they are playing their own instruments and doing their own vocals instead of singing to a drum, bass, guitar track that has already been put down and then sung over with autotune like all of today's pop music. Lets see where these boys go before passing judgement to quick.

Lightnings Do you really think you're gonna tell me anything new about Led Zeppelin and their music? Yes, there is an article, containing 20 songs, and 18 of them have no business being there, because they were traditionals, or correctly credited covers, or bear some minor resemblance to another song. And the two that should be there were just blues influnced, to the degree that they used expressions from the blues, while the music was entirely original. Maybe you should know what you're talking about, before you speak.

GVF is coming into their own. I think every Rock band/singer began by being influenced by past Rock music, it's inevitable. People who are carping on the Zeppelin similarities, need to cut GVF some slack. They are reviving Rock&Roll. The more they write and play their own songs, the more they will evolve into their own unique style. Cut them a break, they re very young yet. I saw them last Sunday, Sept 29, 2019 at San Diego State, and it was a thrilling experience-they are extremely talented!!!! Can't wait to see them nature, and earn their place in Rock history.

Theres really not that much... I mean the real innovation would come from people just writing good songs with guitars, and that innovation enough. I think striving to be so completely different is good and bad. I mean rock has been pushed(in many cases) to an unbearable place of either Hardcore Metal or Shitty Indie rock, and i don't think that should be the only choices out there. These kids give me hope for the future of this style of music. I really like how grounded they are in fundamentals, and they seem to be authentic. Do they currently sound Led Zepplin-ish...well, yes. Is that a bad thing...well, no, no it very much isn't. Personally I think their music stands on its own merits; when the playlist I have for them gets to the end, I reach over and hit repeat which I don't do with very many bands these days. My son and I listen to them and rock out together; he in particular resonates with this band that's closer to his own age and time than to a bunch of bands from four decades ago, but it also gives him an "in" to better appreciate some of the classics when I say 'if you like that, you'll probably also like..." and spin up an old tune. I hope this band and the visibility they are getting helps to open the door for a revival of this style of music, and maybe refresh it / keep it alive for the next generation.

I'll be honest I don't care for these guys much I'm not a huge Zeppelin fan nor that branch of Hard Rock But what these guys said about the nature of people avoiding good music because it's hard to listen to and takes awhile to get is totally true There's a serious aversion nowadays to complexity, artistry, intellectualism or challenge That's why we have this throw away commercial culture

The fact that they referenced Hozier who I’ve listened to way longer than them is incredible!!! He was also so right in his point!!!

They may sound a bit like Zeppelin in places but overall their sound is so much more diverse. These boys are the real deal and for the record, they love Led Zeppelin as well as many other bands.

They were talking about inspirations without a single mention of Led Zeppelin... I mean, i love these guys and they're obviously really talented but they refrain from mentioning the elephant in the room lol...

If they keep ignoring it people are just going to dislike them and I would hate to see that happen to them

In my eyes rock is and always will be relevant. There’s no way you can beat the classics, but I appreciate these guys effort
