35k is crazy. Everyone who pays 35k for that has NO CLUE of audio engineering. Even as a millionaire I wouldnt buy that thing for 35k. Herchild is the way better deal, but the plug-in is close enough for the price. Dont get me wrong. I am a sucker for great hardware. My most expensive piece is the RND Master Buss Processor, but 35k? Geez.. Never.

So, what makes it not a replica? Original company, same schematics, same parts, etc. If you go down that road, only the first 10 or so were built by Rein Narma himself. I guess every other vintage 670 from the 60s are replicas.

Hi Thomas. Thanks for the video / test. Disclaimer, I don't come close to your experience and knowledge on mixing and running a studio, being just an amateur (life time hobby) sound engineer. with my own Hybrid home studio. Having said that, I listened over and over to this marketing wonder. Closed my eyes and try to find the by-pass / engaged mode point, did NOT succeed very well. To be honest, only on the song4 I could say, this unit really does the job. For the others, I can't really make a significant difference between the HW unit and the UAD plugin. Of course I am NOT listening in the studio to REALLY hear it, because no one owning a studio ever let me in just to have an interesting day in my life 😉 (HINT HINT). But maybe that's the whole point, NO ONE is listening in the studio, they use headphones (most of them just the standard 50 euro's ones) while riding a bike in heavy traffic. So they recreated a wonder from the past, which was a wonder at that time. Why on earth spend 35.000 on this, I would think what you have today in your studio is just as good. And for those who think of spending over 300.000 dollars on an REAL DEAL version, you can live a happy life for 300 month (25 YEARS that is!!) when you combine that (1000 euro per month for your fixed cost of life) with a simple job without all the hassle of running a studio and compete with the world on getting big contracts with the top of the bill musicians. I DO understand the kick you get, may be I would to but not likely as all my other equipment will most likely kill the improvement of using this compressor.

@tonygunz217 ай бұрын
With the modern recreations and other compressors that sound just as good, there's not much of a point in buying one of these unless you just want to say that you have an actual Fairchild. Perhaps having one could be a marketing tool for studios, which I guess could justify this type of purchase. But strictly as a tool, I just couldn't see a reason to buy this over something like Undertone Audio's Unfairchild, which has far more flexibility and modern features, but maintains all the goodies of a Fairchild....oh and its a third of the price.
@thomasvopstal7 ай бұрын
Yeah, i think at a certain level, high end studios would see an increase in bookings if they can say that they have an actual fairchild. I already see that with people wanting a 1073 and cl1b. Also, there might be people selling their vintage to cash in on the insane price increase but still want an actual fairchild

Interesting video, dude. I like how it sounds but I see no reason to spend 35k on this one knowing that there are very good replicas around there. For example, the Stam Audio is in my opinion a good alternative to get that warmth and character expending a 20% of its price. Regards!
@1loveMusic20034 ай бұрын
The vintage one probably won't be to original spec, so the reissue might be the closest thing on earth to the sound of the original. Maybe? Tubes don't last over 60 years and I hear the originals were military grade ones that you can't get. Is that true?

Ultramarine sounds like crap compared to it But….they redeemed themselves With the Vintage 670 that you have And the Stamm audio and Eclipse clones that they live sampled for midnight Plus it has more features So therefore, you can use it in mixing and mastering and vocals At a fraction of the cost And sounding, at least 80% to the vintage unit So that makes spinning $35,000 a waste of time and money 😭😂 I dare you To download the trial It’s fully functional I’m telling you, bro, I’ve got analog gear I’ve got a Warm Audio GCOMP For Masterbus And Art Stereo FET for Tracking and the dbx 286s for Vocals With the Mackie 8 Bus Mixing Console Pro Cabling and a UAD Volt 476 Alesis MK2s Monitors and a Lewitt Mic 🎤 with Nebula and about 40 Acustica Audio plugins so I know analog vs Digital And midnight is VERY VERY CLOSE

so - its a "fairchild" sticker on a replica ... but for a 35k prize tag ... so go with Stam or UnderTone Audio and you´ll get a replica too with an expensive prize tag on it but for far less then the "Fairchild" sticker (Stam and Undertone Audio are something in the 10k range) ... and if you´ll go with UnderTone Audio take a few bucks more for the UNFa-1 box to add it to the 670 replica and you´ll get a lot of more control to a lot of good things of a 670 ... i can´t see any advantage to spend 25k extra only for that "Fairchild" sticker - but thats only my 2 cents on it ;-)
@KlemmMusicTechnology7 ай бұрын
It is not the same with the cheaper copies. They don't have point to point wiring. It is a lot of work to do this and only a few companies still are able to produce something like this in high quality. The cheaper copies only use the legend and the name but it is not possible to sound the same if you use a complete different approach. Point to point wiring and 20 tubes make a difference. If you say the difference is not worth the money for you, that is ok, but there is a difference. The idea at Telefunken was "let's make a 1:1 copy of it" - they even analyzed some materials of originals 670. So I must disagree, the difference is more then just the Fairchild sticker.

Oh, ridiculous, 35K? adding around at least 30k markup. The comparison makes little to no sense, there is currently a 200k gold top up for sale, Gibson gonna start charging 25k for a modern replica. Would love to see a justification on pricing for this.
