Thank you for this video. I have a Levo Expert Gen3 with X0 and would like to upgrade to Transmission. Like you I have the cassette, chain and crankset. Please can you tell me what parts do I need for the upgrade?
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, apologies for the delay replying (didn’t get a notification). For the new T type system, you’ll need to buy a groupset, as the only backwards compatible part is the shifter, all the rest is specific I’m afraid.
@soundwave6769 Жыл бұрын
it says in the app not to use multi shift on the older ones with a ebike so turned that on still shifts ok going 35mph on the flat and not fell off yet 🤠
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
Just be careful multi shifting up the cassette, as it can snag and snap your chain 👌

I want to do this on my Grand Canyon on 9 but I’m not sure if I can upgrade my black jack hubs from spline and I don’t have enough money to buy a new back wheel because I just bought the groupset

On my Specialized levo, can I use my hope 155 crank arms instead of the ones that come with the XO?

As long as they ISIS fitment, yes..

Thx for the helpful video. Do you recall your chain length? What size is your bike? I also have a gen 3 Levo Expert, in large. According to SRAM T-type installation guide, chain length should be 118 but it is too short. Derailleur is completely stretched out completely in 1st gear 😤
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
Yes i do… you should be running 122 links if I remember correctly.
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
My bike is an S5 and the one set up in the video is an S4… both set up with the low BB (long) geometry.

@@NICKSMTBTRICKS Found the problem, chain came new with only 120 links instead of 126. Wen I removed 8 links to get to 118, or so I thought, it became 112! I got another GX T-type chain and verified it had 126 links, set it for 118 and now all good. SRAM is replacing the chain.

@@BikingBadwithTC good effort sorting that then… and Sram are usually good with replacing anything defective 👌

You put the chainring directly original right? You didn’t do any milling work to the chainring to fit the 55mm chain line?

No, just straight on…. And no issues.

What happens after you ride it 3 times and it starts skipping around 6 and 7? It came factory installed on my new bike and ran fine for 2 rides. 3rd it starts acting up. After playing with micro adjust and with loosening and following SRAM's installation video multiple times, the best i can get it is that it jumps from 10 down to 12, skipping 11. On the way back, I've got to put it in 9 to get it up to 10, then by 8 or 7 it jumps to the correct gear. If i use micro adjust, I can get 3 through 12 working perfectly, but when i go to 2 it wants to skip in and out of 1; when i go to 1, it wants to go off into the spokes. Again, factory installed worked fine 3 rides. I've reset everything exactly as it should be for my bike and I've even counted my chain links to make sure that's right.

Hi mate… sound very odd, and I used to see this on previous version where companies cut cost corners, and used lower spec cassettes and chains. However with the new system, it’s almost impossible to create mis-shift, so could possibly be a fault somewhere. May be worth contacting supplier to see if they can help.
@elbiemetoo Жыл бұрын
Possibly a defect in the derailleur firmware. It should be under warranty

Is it much quieter (in terms of chain slap) than the old GX?

If you want to flip the chip on the chainstay, do you need a new chain or is it just a matter of re tentioning the sistem like you showed in the vid? Im talking about the levo gen 3
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
Well we tried this on my buddies Levo, and it was fine on 122 links, in long or short, and yeah, just needs retensioning as you say 👌

Around 6:17 when you torque up the mech to the frame, you said 25nm. On my hanger bolt it says 35nm. Are you going looser than spec for the floating action?
@nadersedaghat56946 ай бұрын
first gens were 25nm and sram found out later they were moving under hard loads so they upped the torque spec to 35nm.

The chainring provided with the X0 brose kit is not ideal for the turbo Levo due to the offset (hence the chain guide not fitting). SRAM recommend using the 11.6218.057.000 - Chain Ring T-TYPE 34T 104 BCD Steel Black or 11.6218.057.001 - Chain Ring T-TYPE 36T 104 BCD Steel Black with the existing spider. They also recommend keeping the cranks.
@matttaylor73267 ай бұрын
The motor on the turbo Levo is actually offset in the frame, so if you attach a direct mount chainring as you've done, the chainline sits quite dramatically outboard. SRAM actually recommend using a 104BCD chainring in conjunction with the spider that comes with the bike. The spider that comes with the bike is unique to that bike and provides the correct amount of offset to keep the chainring aligned properly with the cassette and with your chain guide.
@matttaylor73267 ай бұрын
The crank arms that come with a Turbo Levo are asymmetrical and are produced specifically for that bike. I've spoken to Specialized and Praxis (the supplier of the default crank arms). They told me that if you run symmetrical crank arms like the X0 ones you installed, one of your legs will be 2mm off centre. Hardly noticeable. Not a problem running the setup installed, but it isn’t optimal. Hope the info help. This is all from my experience!

great vid.. thanx for the info.. just heads up i hear guys are milling down the back part of CR by a lil.. not sure exactly how much but also not sure which way its suppose to actually be.. SMH LOL

Chain ring only really fits one way…. And mine not dropped the chain once, and that’s in pretty much maxed out riding on the Levo.
@jetskiordie7976 Жыл бұрын
Did you install the bcd or the Brose groupset?
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
In this video it’s the Brose groupset, but I have also fitted the BCD kit on mine (also seen in this vid).
@jetskiordie7976 Жыл бұрын
@@NICKSMTBTRICKS hmmm. So you have fitted both?? Which groupset fits better? Supposedly the chain line on the Levo is 52mm and Transmission was made for 55mm…and there really is no correct or best fitment information from SRAM on what is supposed to work for the 3rd gen levo…so since you have installed both please share fitment and use of each.
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
@@jetskiordie7976 yeah, the Brose direct mount doesn’t work with the chain guide due to the offset and has to remove it… but today this setup got a brutal testing and didn’t suffer with any issues at all.
@jetskiordie7976 Жыл бұрын
@@NICKSMTBTRICKS so is the Brose kit the better kit because it is at the proper offset?
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
@@jetskiordie7976 I don’t think it makes much difference to be honest… after a full test yesterday the was no issues with the Brose kit, so I can’t say it’s worse than the BCD version. They perform equally well.

That transmission xo crankset is ridiculously heavy. I couldn’t believe it. It is a quarter pound heavier than the xx1 t type
@NICKSMTBTRICKS Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s not the lightest…. But on the drive train on an EMTB it’s not going to make the biggest difference. I would have opted for XX cranks, but there’s no 160mm option 😩
@slbynum10 ай бұрын
Can’t you just put whatever cranks you want on? For instance like hope 155? Amazon sells the kit without the cranks.
@elbiemetoo10 ай бұрын
@@slbynum. The t type transmission requires a wider crank axle (boost wide) because the cassette sits 1.5 mm outboard than non transmission eagle. This is critical because the derailleur has no adjustment and requires the whole system to be where it is supposed to be to be. That being said, check with SRAM
