Coffee engineer here. The lack of a "cool touch" group here is mostly due to cost and aesthetic. It's relatively inexpensive to have cool touch steam wands since it just require a plastic tube. Creating that sort of plastic insulation would be much more expensive to follow the water path in the group while still using the group's thermal mass for temperature stability. The alternative would be something like the Silvia Pro, which instead creates a barrier by putting the case around the group! Seems ECM is more interested in showing off the group design.

I have a Silvia Pro X and yes the encasement around the group is very nice and matches the aesthetic of the machine as well as functionally protecting against burns. I am going to upgrade got the Synchronika II bc I really want flow control and the aesthetic of the E61 group. Thanks for the explanation on this 👍🏻

I’m pretty curious how this will compare to the Profitec Drive in Price. The electronic grouphead and better display UX, plus the lux fit and finish are nice. At the same time, the Drive still has nearly all the same features, plus a flow meter and flow control. I might be inclined to pick up the Synchronika over the Drive if they are priced similarly.

Good review - thank you! As for a 30-40 minute wait time for a E61 machine to be ready, I included in my electrics an auto-on timer, making it ready to go when ambling in to my kitchen of a morning. Secondly, a cool-touch group head would be super, but with present technology and engineering I can only imagine it would bulk up to almost twice its current mass - unless a NASA-inspired technology makes its way to the production line. Thirdly, why oh why does the hot water dangerously spurt from the wand? Surely to goodness the engineering lads and gals can resolve that issue. It is to my mind just as dangerous as a blazing-hot group head. And last but not least, on the new Mark II version and the settings in the thumb wheel window: are they lost when a power outage happens?

I do not know why you'd buy the old version since the II is already available for the same price (at least in Europe) - unless sellers make some good discounts on their old stock. I had my eyes on the Synchronika II, but was very disappointed about how conservative the design is, so I opted to preorder the Meticulous Espresso instead, which I find far more exciting since it's integrating superior options for flow and pressure control out of the box in a design that's even more simple should require less maintenance. What ECM should really have done is to present an option to replace double boiler technology for the high level home consumer, which integrate options for automated flow/pressure/temperature control and reduce the power consumption for heating water (and group head). The new control interface is an upgrade, but I don't understand why they don't just provide a Bluetooth/WiFi interface, which could increase and simplify the control options, while keeping the design clean and allowing for app updates to keep features relevant.
@mattsmith31352 ай бұрын
In my country it's significantly more expensive (around US$900 more) to buy the II over the original one. I had been waiting for the new model to come out but it looks like I'll have to just buy the old one instead. It's hard to justify that price increase just for a better screen, pre-infusion and 7 minute warm up.
@thomasnnielsen2 ай бұрын
@@mattsmith3135 No, it is definitively not worth that sort of the premium - if I had gone for the Synchronika, I would have plumbed it in anyway, so the active pre-infusion doesn't really bring any new functionality. The biggest gain would be the better control interface and, perhaps, slightly better controlled temperature at the head. I understand they probably have a customer base that wants high-end E61 machines, but so many years after the Decent, I am disappointment that they didn't go for creating something that can compete with that, but in a better build... That even the manual control valve is still an add-on when it comes stock on the Drive is absurd. The process involved in preording on KickStarter/Indigogo is definitively not for everyone, but for me it made more sense in the end to go for Meticulous Espresso since I think it's an exciting concept for the needs of a home machine and it better suits the capabilities I would like from my next machine (i.e. advanced and repeatable flow profiling) while being much cheaper than even the original Synchronika (because it is also far simpler in design).

Thanks. These aren't reviews, they are just me reacting to the announcements and putting together a video of all the information that I've managed to scrape from all over the place. It makes it easier for someone who might be interested in buying it when they come out. I'm not doing it for views, I'm doing it because it's too expensive to buy every machine to play on.
