I watched the teardown of the 2.7L Nano V6 over on the I Do Cars channel, and the engineering is remarkable. The compacted graphite iron block is tiny, and then the intricate casting of the spidery mid-block/bed plate is just amazing. That bottom end is sooo beefy for such small displacement. Then the cylinder heads are a thing of beauty, both port and direct injection, and water cooled cast-in exhaust manifolds. Liked it so much I ordered the same engine for my 2023 Bronco OBX two door. Just did the Ford Pro-Cal tune for the Bronco, with factory 4.27 gears and the snappy 10 speed it turned the machine into a Q-ship, no one expects a Bronco to light the afterburners like it does now. I dont think it's the transmission and I really dont think there is anything holding it back necessarily. It's just a different philosophy, which seems to be more to act like a small diesel than it does a turbocharged gasoline engine. The "Ike" is the signature project of TFLT. I find it oddly satisfying to watch your tests on this iconic road. For this one, I wonder why you didn't match the trailer weight from your prior mid-sized truck tests? That seems to be a key variable and will now leave everyone debating the conclusion about the Ford being the best towing mid-sized.
@shitloveaduck5 сағат бұрын
They don’t have that Dakota anymore and the trailer has changed as well. They do two types of Ike Gauntlet. To day was just the Ike Gauntlet towing a weight of 5000 lbs. then there’s a Super Ike. Both are representative, but for a mid size truck, you generally don’t tow more than 5,000 lbs. this last batch though, with the exception of the Nissan Frontier and the Jeep Gladiator have reached a new plateau. They generally CAN tow up to their maximums, even the 2.3 litre Ranger. The naturally aspirated Frontier 3.8 struggled a bit and the 3.6 Gladiator was sucking wind bad at the top! The 2.7 EcoBoost has always punched way above its weight class in the trucks, including the F150s. Still outperforms the 5.0 at anything above sea level, then the 5.0 looses off the line, but catches up.
@percivalgooglyeyes61782 сағат бұрын
Yes, why wouldn't TFLT match the weights? Now they need to do a Super Ike at maximum towing capacity!
@shitloveaduck2 сағат бұрын
@ - they have always varied it. The 2.3 can do the Super Ike with no issues. The 2.7 will be about the same as you saw today with fuel economy dropping to 5.5 mpg or so. They use what they have, towing the SxS is a very typical load towed by midsized trucks. So you can think for yourselves or look back in the video history. They have thousands of them!

I went back and checked, I stand corrected they towed 6200lbs in the big test. I cant vouch for why they didnt use the same weight but I agree its not a fair comparison at all. 1200lbs is a big difference to a small engine truck and you cannot claim its superior when testing to a lighter standard.

Engine braking reduces the heat buildup on the brakes, long downhill runs can overheat the brakes which causes fade and eventually brake failure.

When I build an equally optioned F150 its now $78k and a Ranger is $58k, but a Lariat Ranger doesnt have 4auto like the F150 has, which i consider a must have. I wouldn't even consider this truck unless it was sub $40k and I won't consider another F150 unless its sub $60k OTD but they are not even close to having big enough rebates to get the price even close to the old msrp. Otherwise new cars can rot on dealer lots, like they are currently doing - there are leftover 2022s on lots! For Andre, I would go for a 4 1/2” brim that would fit his shoulder width better and also fits closer to his ears better instead of looking like it’s barely sitting on top of his head. He’s a bigger guy that’s wearing too small of a hat, then I’d shape the brim to fit his features better. Being that it’s colder in Colorado this time of year, a good felt would go a long way. Right now he’s trying to LOOK the part of Mr. Truck, get the right hat and right shape, he can become Mr. Truck and be more confident in doing it! I don't like how the tow-mode puts the truck in 4x4, you shouldn't need 4x4 to tow something. Older trucks were still capable of pulling similar weight with 4 gears while in 2wd. Trucks have double the amount of gears and are a mile long now you'd figure it would be able to pull in 2wd like everything else.

Ouch, lol.and that's not just a one-time thing. But Andre's command of English is very impressive considering it's not his native tongue.

yes, make it less expensive. I don't need a big ol screen. make a work truck with basic knobs dials and buttons. I already have a phone with a screen.

Where is the old guy? I enjoyed watching Mr. Truck. Not enjoying this duo combination As a guest is fine but not as regular combination. It takes decades of experience to add anything informational. It’s called college of life experience of towing and hauling….

Some of my favorite episodes are IKE tests! 2 things... Andre... you need a better hat man, real cowboys (which you are) wear felt hats after labor day, not straw, and that hat doesn't fit you very good my friend, lets get you a nice looking hat ! Secondly, Jen (Ms. Truck) Needs a cowgirl hat of her own ! Keep up the great work !

This may very well be my next truck. Or a 2.7 equipped F-150 since they can be had for cheaper than the rangers. I’m a Toyota traditionalist but I’ve been fed up with their recent poor build quality and reliability issues with their engines and transmissions. Toyota is overpriced as well for what you get and the Tacoma is no longer what it was.

Yes, no discussion of the state of the vehicle. Probably means all was good.

The traversal motors are gen 1, so they miss out on a lot of improvements. Biggest one piston cooling gallery and dual injection.

In fairness, the 2.7 wasnt always grenading. Iirc the bronco had a bad run with them, mostly in relation to the transmission, but that was fixed. These have been in the f-150 for years and by most accounts are fantastic and reliable engines. The 3.5 has a spottier reputation even though folks love its power. The only one I know that consistently grenades is the 3 cylinder eb from the bronco sport. That thing is garbage through and through.

Andrey I'm from Texas where we wear cowboy hats year around. You can't wear a straw hat in winter. U look like a dork or a (dood) felt hat in winter .
@anthonyc18832 сағат бұрын
That's great there's a pecking order in cowboy hats. As a Chicagoan, I had no idea.
