Years ago, youngest son was going to school at UW, in Laramie. Naturally, he considered the whole region of the Snowies and the upper front-range of Colorado as his personal play-ground! And, just as naturally, he felt it his duty to share outdoor adventures with anyone he could talk into going along with him, including his ole Dad. You should know, I was in my mid-fifties at this point in life....old enough to know better but young enough to still go on some adventures! Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to re-capture my youth, just keeping on keeping on! We climbed 14-teeners, gold panned in the Snowies, rode Honda XR-650-R's and Yamaha XT-500 on adventure trail rides in both locations during the Fall and Winter! Yeah, I know, I thought we were about half a bubble off center to be doing it then, but we did. One late October, wife and I drove down from the Black Hills and met son and family at Mountain Meadows Cabins off of Hwy-130 on the way up to Medicine Bow Peak. It was drizzling when we started out on bikes the next morning, but we were adventure riders well-dressed for the ride, yeah buddy! So, we sucked it up and carried on. By the time we got above tree line at Libby Flats, the drizzle became a full-blown Wyoming mountain snow storm! We managed to ride an old forest road back towards Centennial and eventually come out on Hwy-130, just below our cabins. Would have been a hoot to have had a beast like yours for further adventures in the Snowies! Thing of it was....son was a UW engineering student and we could have probably built a couple of our own! Oh well.....those were shining times, indeed! Thanks for sharing your story. Hope the project came out okay for you!

Just purchased everything from your parts links. Thank you for posting that, it was extremely helpful! I just picked up 2 sleds that were out to pasture and already have one dissected and hopefully pulling out jack shaft for machining key way today. The tracks on both the Artic Cat and the Polaris I bought for very cheap are in great condition! So a second build is very likely to be in my future. Thanks for inspiring me ! It's definitely coming together nicely, the only concern that I have so far is one: "the length of the track, being fairly long, and possibly difficult to turn' in heavy snow And two: 'The thickness of the drive belt, for the reciprocating clutches being thin' and overheating under high load' Otherwise great job, and looking forward to the completed product.

Quick question, I appreciate your time, I bought the 30 tooth sprocket to go on my jack shaft, but I remember you said you wanted a bigger / More teeth sprocket and settled for this one. a 30 tooth. wondering how exactly that turned out for torque and speed? would a bigger sprocket give you more speed or slow you down for more torque? I know there is a fine line, But I would sacrifice speed for down low torque. thats my opinion,...
@prospectoroutdoors
@prospectoroutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
I would stick with the 30. It seems to have plenty of torque for pulling. Not the fastest machine, but I’m with you on that. Just get my stuff on the lake is all I care about.
