As someone from the region who was following this news, I understood it as an animal abuse case so government stepped in and impounded the defanged lion, but its Chinese well-to-do owner and the Cambodian dictator were friends somehow so he could still keep the lion. Obviously a corruption case. Owning lions as pets is against Cambodian law, but Hun Sen is ruling by decree so 🤷‍♂️

Glad I wasnt't the only one who paused and looked him up. He was bullied for being "fat" in school until one day he threw his bully across the room and made himself realize he was stronger than he thought. After that the bully never bothered him again. He immigrated to Canada and tried lots of different sports that weren't suited to him like basketball, sprinting, etc. It wasn't until college he tried weightlifting and found naturally he could lift the heaviest weights. Amazing story!

A nation's territorial waters (under UNCLOS, which applies to Micronesia) extend 12 nautical miles from its shores, whereas the closest island is several hundreds of kilometers away from Challenger Deep.
