Local news for me is my small US rural town installed two EV charging stations and a big commercial building that has been sitting vacant for a while has recently been bought by a semiconductor company to renovate the building into a CNC manufacturing building. It's expected to create a lot of jobs and put a lot of needed revenue into the city. Like many other small rural towns, when the mill shut down almost 15 years ago, it changed things economically and socially at a very rapid pace that we are only just recently beginning to heal from.

Social credit jokes aside, we should have been recognized years ago if China is not a superpower that chokes most nations' economies. The reason Switzerland is "late on inclusivity issues" stems simply from the fact that there is a very high threshold to legislative change. For example, giving women the right to vote required a constitutional amendment, and thus a referendum, on which only men could vote. That referendum needed not only the majority nationwide, but the majority in at least half of the cantons (states, Switzerland is a federal country) as well. That being said, the fact that the same-sex marriage was approved by a majority in every single canton is rather remarkable.

Coal is also the official currency, we pay for our groceries with pieces of coal. Also when a man wants to show affection for a woman he takes out a piece of coal from his pocket and gifts it to a woman, polish women absolutely adore it and think that coal is the true symbol of love, not diamonds (which are also carbon but worse because you can't use them to make electricity and heat your apartament). We also eat coal as a snack, when we get a bit hungry we just take a bite of a piece of coal just like everyone else would take a bite of an apple. Coal is extremely versatile and everybody loves it. This information is 100% true, there is no reason to ask anyone else to confirm it. They're gonna be offended that you're doubting our national devotion to coal.

I really loved your vid last year. As a swede the Sweden news about fully automated stores had gone by me completely. But I think you picked a boring one this year, as you picked probably the news article with most international recognition (althou the one you picked is really hillarious due to the short time she managed to keep the title). Looking forward to more of these videos thou, it's really fun to see what's going on in the world that I had no idea about

The HDI ranks countries based on only 3 factors: life expectancy, years of education, and per capita income. It does not take into account the level of unemployment and inflation or the level of corruption. It also fails to take into account the level of human rights and democracy as well as freedom of the media. In addition, it does not assess the level of crime, i.e. the threat of terrorism and the number of homicides. It also does not evaluate countries in terms of the quality of the environment or running a business, economic innovation or access to the Internet by residents. I make a ranking of the standard of living in the world every two years. In the last of 2020, I included 34 categories according to which I rated 156 countries. I'm just starting to create another one this year. Not only the UN publishes such rankings, in my opinion the Legatum Prosperity Index published every year is much more credible, and the Social Progress Index is also published every year, which is worse, in my opinion it is worse showing the real reality in the standard of living. Returning to the methodology of my ranking, all countries in each category rank from 1st place to 156, except where in some field only 1 country - without ex equo - is in the highest position, it gives it 0 points and the country is in second place normally 2. Then it sums up places taken by each country in all categories and the lower the value of the hype places a given country obtains, the higher (better) it ranks. I do not know yet how many categories will be included in this year's ranking, but when it comes to the number of countries assessed by me, it will probably not change or will change slightly.

As a Czech, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth that you picked a rich person's death as the headline of the year over the win of democratic political parties in october elections, leading to an end of era of the party ANO with their leader (and prime minister for the last 8 years) Andrej Babiš being on trial for many years for money laundering, tax fraud and other financial frauds... otherwise very good video, i love these

You are right, but the video isnt about the most important news of each country, its about news we didnt know. And I guess more people know about the elections than about the death of Petr Kellner, but you are right, the elections are more important but thats not the topic of the video. In almost every country there were more important things than what got mentioned. Or du you think the Only Fans for nude skulpures was the most important thing in Austria? :D

Seems that you forgot to mention that coal is also the official polish currency, we pay for our groceries with pieces of coal.

Well, Germany's news was underwhelming. Here's a better one: Merkel stepped down this year after leading the German government for 16 years as chancellor, arguably Germany's most influential political position in day-to-day politics. Her nickname, "Mutti", given to her by the German press, which is a minimalization for the German word for "mother", might give a hint as to why she held the position for so long. Born in East Germany, she however is only the 7th chancellor (West-) Germany had since the first chancellor in 1949 and only the 3rd since the reunification of East- and West Germany in 1990. She also is the first chancellor to have stepped down of her own volition, with every chancellor before her aiming for reelection, but having their bid fail one way or another. Incidentially, with Merkel not running for chancellor again, her party, the CDU, has had its worst election result ever in the party's history.
