It included very small scenes (that aren't necessary, but surely add it the experience) every now and then throughout the first season that were cut either due to TV rating issues (i.e. overly gory, etc) or made the episode too lengthy. As well as the ending to the first season being "Who's Rem?" AND the 24 episodes are divided into 12 because each "episode" is movie-length. I think there's some more, as well.

If you were curious the knife he kept looking at was actually a reference to the novel. In the novel he uses that knife to kill himself to try to go back instead of what we’re were shown in the anime. He never kills him next to Rem on the lawn in the novel only at her bedside

Since they couldn’t show the multiple suicides (since I heard he kills himself multiple times? Been a while since I read) it might also be just trying to imply that he’s thinking of suicide subconsciously as a way to escape the situation and make things right

@@ma.2089 He killed himself once at her bedside and returned only a few seconds back, he was going to do it again, but his brain started to work and he realized there's nothing he could do, even if he goes back to the previous one. Tbh, I like the web novel more, where Subaru actually expresses his anger - at himself, at Puck, even at Otto. In case of Puck it was justified, at least.

There’s actually many scenes that have to do with Rem where we see a difference side of Subaru that he is usually able to mask or hide from showing us that just got slashed. Even tho they are small scenes they really change your perspective on things. There’s a scene later in S2 that they will eventually get to. In the novel he gets livid🤬🤬 but in the anime they have him brush it off like it was nothing. Same with the puck scene idk why they changed that it was fine how it was and it shows how angry and irrational his thoughts were at that moment.

there is a few reasons why they didn't ended season 1 with "who is Rem" scene, so, the anime adapt the light novel instead of the web novel and season 1 adapted right until volume 9, the thing is, the "who is Rem" scene is available in this volume but volume 9 came out a few days after season 1 ended, so, because they didn't want to reduce the impact of volume 9 ending and also the fact that the studio didn't even know whether Re Zero is going to get a season 2 or not, they decided to end season 1 with Subaru's confession instead

25:00 We’ve known that there were multiple witches since season one. When Subaru tells Ram the story about the two Ogres, they also skim over the fables of this world. the most important being the one about Satella and how she defeated the other witches and was later sealed away by the Great Dragon and a Hero who I believe shares the same family name as Wilheim and the Sword Hero/knight that helped fight the Bowel Hunter. Because Satella is the witch of Envy, Echidna is the witch of Greed and we have SIN Archbishops...you can assume that the remaining witches total up to be the 7 Deadly Sins.

Every year on Subaru’s birthday (April 1) Re:zero’s author, Tappei Nagatsuki releases a side story called an If story. It is about how the story would have been if Subaru made a different decision at certain points. Each side story is named after a sin. When Gluttony “ate” Rem, the images shown were from the Sloth If story, where Rem went with Subaru and ran away at ep 18. They were basically teasing us with “what could have been”.

I think the blade on the table when Subaru is watching Rem is hinting at a dark secret of Subaru. Later on in arc 6, it is revealed that Subaru self harms and has been doing it since his third death in the mansion. Subaru cuts up his arms, which is why he is always wearing long sleeves, he hasn’t shown his arms at all since he was in his t-shirt when Rem tortured Subaru. Even when he removed his jacket to fight Julius, he did not have a short sleeve shirt on or roll up his sleeves like he did when cleaning the bathroom with Rem before he found out that Rem was planning on killing him.

Explanation about Gluttony's power. He can eat either a persons name or memories. If the name is eaten then everyone forgets about that person (except Subaru) and if memories are eaten then that person loses all their memories (what happened to Crusch) Rem in this case had her name and memories eaten causing her to sleep.

Per episode is filled by the story with good animation, and some times they skip the opening and ending, but still end up with 26 or 28 minutes duration. This is one of a kind. So worth it
