About the friend thing about Otto... just remember that Subaru doesn't have any friends in the real worldl and how his trauma in the school. I don’t often win things or have things go my way, Im sure its the same for you. Especially true when you become an adult. Arc 1-2 sets up Subaru to be sympathetic, arc 3 challenges his character and forces him to do what necessary to get what he wants. Arc 4 test Subarus self confidence and self worth, and trust of others. Each arc Subaru becomes less and less of a “loser”. I also think most people WOULD be able to do this. Its like some spiderman shit, it doesn’t matter who had the power. Return by Death made Subaru become someone willing to risk his life. It gave him a chance, not just to survive. But save his friends, and changes himself for the better

He legit went insane because how the hell does the normal brain deal with or even rationalize the sensations of being EATEN ALIVE afterwards. His brain had a melt down and all he could do was pound his head into the ground in an attempt to distract himself from the insanity of the entire ordeal. That was until the Witch of Greed called him to the tea party, which thankfully restored his rationality instantly. If not for that he would have been left an invalid.

Wouldn’t you have done the same? Subaru. Doesn’t. Care. What Subaru does do is try to do everything himself. He doesn’t really have friends so he’s forgotten he can rely on others (despite telling Rem to rely on others). From Otto perspective, Subaru saved him from death, bought his overstock that threatened to ruin him, offered to introduce him to the margrave, while he bantered with him and teased him like they were old friends. He was a good friend to Otto, but he never noticed until Otto said it.

Although it could be just one of the critters that lived in the forest, considering how Subaru hadn’t encountered a single living creature up to this point, seeing it here was exceedingly strange. Subaru: “Why is there a rabbit here... It... is a rabbit... right?” With endless questions, Subaru looked over his surroundings, confused, trying to see if there were other animals besides this rabbit that had wandered back into the Sanctuary. I completely agree that this was Kobayashi's (Subaru's VA) best performance yet. I was hoping you guys would notice just how AMAZINGLY well he performed during the Return by Death scene. Glad you did in the editor's notes. It is so hard to be able to pull off realistically crying and on top of that, adding relief to it. Deceivingly hard. Just astounding how good he is, honestly.
