It's just a token, though. The technology being used for art is simply one way to use it, but really it's simply an entry on the blockchain. It could be used to represent a contract or ownership of a real world object or game item, for example. Whilst the game item part evokes pictures of pay to win, if an online game saved the most important aspects of one's achievements in a game, it could enable similar games to furnish some or even all of them to the players of the other game if they start playing there. That could be useful if the original game starts developing in a direction you don't like, and the only thing holding you back is all the time (and maybe money) sunk into it. Same if the servers shut down. If there are a lot of assets for a given game, it could also motivate game publishers to funnel money into projects reviving defunct games to tap into the latent player base. Of course, technologically speaking, things like these could be achieved without blockchain, but we all know how likely that is. :p Also, the items wouldn't be the exact same, of course, as there are copyright and branding rights to consider. Personally, two games where I'd see this as a successful model are World of Tanks and Warthunder. The tanks are mostly historical, so the main assets are incredibly similar (disclaimer: I haven't really checked whether Warthunder has a shop model for tanks at this point - if they don't, of course that's a plus, and I'm not saying they should add that. ^^" - it's more of an example of games that would map really well, technically speaking).

@@christianknuchel Yeah but we've had ways to create unique documents for centuries in the real world. Like your passport, birth certificate or the real world money. If you want a certificate saying you own a drawing its already easy enough to make without involving this technology.... And unless the government recognises it as proof of ownership then it really doesn't have legitimacy...

@@fieldy409 generally the way I feel like it works as an actual artist is you own the art and artistic properties of your work and stylism, not the actual specific png or the website link to open the png up in an empty page. No artist I’ve ever encountered in my life thinks by owning art they own the specific png not the art in it. But NFTs don’t have any art in them so they have no choice but to claim ownership of a concept that has no raw tangible function. It’s somehow even stupider than money. You can’t own a number and it doesn’t correlate with any actual resource outside of the social construct that the string of computer numbers determines the right to live or die.

I don’t support NFTs, never will, but as an artist I absolutely see why people get into it, it’s so hard to make it as an artist these days, especially if you’re not a very good artist, and it’s even harder to just… get money. Most artists who try to get into the NFT scene never get their stuff sold. You can only really sell NFT's if you're already a well established artist, or just by luck. The biggest NFT artists aren't even what most would consider to be good at art, so that's not really a factor.

I appreciate the nuanced side you bring to this, especially with how a lot of these people touting lion pictures are most likely looking for community, and though the things they interact with can be otherwise morally bankrupt, sometimes it's all these people have. A part of me empathizes with them and another part of me wishes that they didn't have to spend such exorbitant amounts of money to just have the chance to have friends. It feels exploitative, a lot of games prey on this too, the desire for community, to wring people dry. It can feel almost, you know, sad to know this is a viable marketing strategy, even if they don't intend for it to be. Thank you algorithm for showing me this one video for once.

@@guiteshima adoptables were creatures, OCs, or species you drew often via a base or a dollmaker. You then would sell these off for real money, DA points, or if they were part of an online game the in game currency. People who bought them could do whatever they wanted with these things whether flesh them out into bigger OCs, give them stories, redesign them a bit, or resell them (though most adoptable makers hated the practice of reselling adoptables, at least in the circle I was in). It kinda gave people who didn't know how to make OCs something. Furries despise NFT's with a passion :p It's literally like they saw furries as "cringe ew" and then took the idea and are trying to rebrand the same exact concept but make it "cool" and "worthwhile/profitable" instead of just enjoying the art and idea and community behind it. They just can't admit they like Furries so it's pretty much a way to be a furry without being associated with Furries. This is very noticeable because I've seen lots of people act like this who are insecure about being called a furry and they act exactly like this. That was before these NFT's too. It's also quite hard coming into the furry fandom and I've had to help a lot of people get started with commissioning and etiquette and common phrases and such, learning how to get a refsheet and the like. This Is a way of commodifying furry art since it's hard to get into, except instead of supporting artists it's like supporting a brand, which the furry community is super against brands trying to invade our spaces with the "how do you do fellow kids" mindset. There was someone who tried to make a "designer" Fursuit brand and it failed miserably because furries don't want that. They want to distance themselves from big names trying to hijack the closeness and tightness of the fandom. This is really apparent with the recent canine cartel NFT's. They tried to invade furry spaces and passed off any celeb NFT's as "their Fursona" such as with Lindsey Lohan. They were very happy with the whole "omg Lindsey Lohan has a Fursona now!!!" Press but then suddenly turned on Furries and the whole community tried to distance themselves from furries when they got clowned on by furries and said the art was bad for the price, and reposting the picture to show how stupid NFT's are. Just general NFT hate. The official Twitter basically said "furries are dogf*uckers yuckyyy we're not Furries" and their community tried to back them up lol. They even unironically tried hijacking furry phrases such as #awoo which has been a thing in furry spaces for decades, when they were told furries invented that they were like "well not anymore lawl!!!" It's very apparent these are closet Furries trying to justify enjoying furries behind the facade that "it's stocks but fun!!!" and thinking that high prices justify their purchase, like they're making an investment. It's just insecurity through and through. Furries have been here from the start, being harassed and assaulted from the start, and it's a pretty big slap in the face when you take everything that furries built, distance yourself from it, and then try and profit on it. That's why we despise brands because they're taking everything we built over the years and fought for despite the bad press and bad treatment, and commidfying it while stripping the furry labels from the things we built for them. They're also taking away individuality and community for profit. Idk, I could talk for hours on the subject, and I'm probably rambling, but it upsets me when people try and reband furry concepts and rename them. Someone legit said one time "I wish there was a genre for human like animal books" and I was like holy shit just say you're a furry and move on, you'll be happier lol. Sorry if a lot of this sounds jumbled I'm just trying to speak my mind but I have so many things to say and it all gets jumbled up sometimes :p like I said I could talk about this for hours lol. There's just so much meat to it. Coming from a furry I know a good bit about it. Just know that furries are heavily against NFT's and the big brand mindset. We built this fandom and we are the ones who know the in's and outs, that's why it's so hard to appeal to the furry fandom without stripping what makes it so great. Furries also have a lot of things to it seen as "strange" or "not profitable" because it was started by a bunch of outcasts of society. We were called weird and bullied for being LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent a lot, and bullied in general for what we like. Big companies and the like typically wanna distance themselves from that. Amazing video though! I really enjoyed it a lot and you're heavily underviewed! I know you're just joking about all the furry stuff, but there's lots of people who will take it seriously, so I'm just here to tell others my two cents and what I think is going on, at least part of what is going on I guess. I think there's more to it. Maybe later I can unjumble my thoughts and white a more cohesive comment.

Exactly this. It's demeaning when someone insults your interests and then does the same thing later. They still can't admit it, so I honestly thing it's even more insulting.

My brain almost cant keep up with all the insanely well written jokes and references that you just spit out with such ease. The tonal shift at the end was so beautiful too. Something about the shots and the colouring. I felt immensely alone, and I'm honestly so impressed that you've made art that inspires strong feelings like that... You are easily one of my new favourite creators. Can't wait to see what you'll do next 🖤

tbh i've watched a few vids abt NFTs but this is only one that actually kept my interest and attention. Your on-screen presence is so engaging, your jokes are so clever and laugh out loud funny, and your vids are so well-edited (especially that last bit! made me feel all warm and fuzzy!) that you managed to make a topic that is both depressing and boringly abstract super entertaining! awesome work!!!

First and foremost, this has to be the funniest video I’ve seen in a long ass time. This also is one of the most empathetic looks I’ve ever seen at an online community. In my experience with the commentary community, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of overt empathy, let alone such well-executed warmth. I remember stumbling upon you on tiktok and thinking you were going to be so fucking huge. Seeing this video today only reassured that thought. Your script was phenomenal, and those last scenes were beautifully filmed. Well done, Ro!!
