I am using Zeiss lenses. The whole photography process is different because autofocus is missing. Using manual focus is an art form. It takes a bit of time get to know the lens and to experience the difference.

I can’t argue with that!

I use the Zeiss Lens too. As you reach the point of nailing your focus nearly every shot this lense is absolutely awesome. +The Material and feel of all the Zeiss lenses is incredible. The first moment you touch it you know you bought a 1000€+ lense. Even the lense hood is made out of metal

I also love Zeiss over Canon. Now Canon has stepped up with that RF 50!

Just a few comments for future videos, unless you've already addressed them: 1. Yong-nu-wo/Yong-nwoh (hearing yonggerie was a bit frustrating) 2. Maybe missing focus is fine for a section where you're testing autofocus capability/compatibility with your camera but you didn't mention if you've had the time to micro-focus adjust or calibrate the lenses to your body. I have never missed focus on any body using Live View AF. 3. For your portrait and CA tests, I assume you were on a tripod, just do zoomed in live view manual focusing on all lenses so it's easier for your viewers to evaluate the image quality fairly. 4. For future bokeh test, I suggest doing a comparison wide open, one at the widest common aperture, and one stop down from the widest common aperture also, including some foliage, specular highlights, and some bokeh balls would have been a good addition. 5. Same comments on sharpness, widest aperture, widest common aperture, one stop down from widest common aperture, then maybe one at peak of each lens. 6. Finally, I understand there's an obsession with most photographers with sharpness but I think you could add a more in depth color comparison too. I appreciate the use of the color chart but it's common knowledge that contrast and thus color changes in stopping down so I'd advise the same wide open then widest common aperture test for color. Maybe a few years in the future, you'll be able to revisit this video. I hope you make take these into consideration.

It is a pity that the Tamron sp45mm f / 1.8 VC USD is missing in the test. I wonder how he would do.

There are so many more lenses I could have tested. I've heard a lot of good things about Tamron in the last few months. I may have to test some out soon.
@twenty4seven3682 жыл бұрын
Owned one in the past. Very good lens that could compete with the Sigma. While not as sharp as Sigma, it has better rendering and character. Also comes with VC and closer focusing so I think it’s the better lens.

If you liked that yongnuo 50 1.8 you should check out their newer mkii version or even the 50mm 1.4 they have.

After 1.8 STM, Sigma 1.4, Canon 1.2, I ended up with the Canon 1.4. Probably the worst one in terms of quality but I like the size for travel/street work. I hope they come out with a cheaper 50mm for the RF mount.
@rynfilms5 жыл бұрын
I've used the Canon 1.4 for years and always thought it was great. It's only when you put it side by side that you really see the difference. It is a great travel lens though! 👍

Thanks for this test, lot's of work! I will stick with my EF 50 F1.4 on my EOS R. The Sigma would be great but too heavy for me as a walk around lens. The other point is I am not using prime lenses that often so it doesn't make sense to spend 1k$ plus for something which is used only from time to time. I hope in the future Canon will make a RF 50 F1.8 or F1.4 like the RF 35 F1.8, small, not heavy and ok from the price.

I’m in the same boat, I’ll stick to my 1.4. The sigma would be nice but I don’t really need it.

Thank you for this comparison!! I've rented the RF 50 1.2L and LOVED it, but unfortunately I don't have that money and I actually like having a focus window for certain manual focus applications, so I'll definitely be renting the Sigma 50 1.4.

I'd definitely would go with the Sigma. It is fantastic in every subjects and when you tested in the studio the colours pops more for me. On the other hand even if the RF wasn't that expensive I wouldn't get it because I'm not sure if I could use it on a 5d mark IV? You've made a fantastic review of these 50mm's.
@rynfilms5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robert! The Sigma was pretty impressive! You would not be able to use the RF lens on the 5D4. You can do EF to RF, but not RF to EF. 👍

The EF 1.2 L is sadly, pretty well-known for having focusing issues. Calibrating/focus adjusting is a waste of time. It sucks but it's a frustrating lens, through and through. I owned it for all of like 2 days. Really a shame. I hope to have the money sometime soon to go RF.

I used to have the canon 50mm F1.4 and I had problems with them and you need to be careful that you don’t drop this lens or knock it about because If you the inside MOTOR BREAKS and I had to pay over £100 to get if FIXED and I ended up getting ride of the canon 50mm F1.4 and went to the canon 50mm F1.2L

It's a beast! It doesn't feel that big on the camera though. Perhaps it's because I'm used to having my 24-70 with the EF adaptor on the R.

Of course: The 50mm 1.2 L. Why? The sigma are too bulky for a 50mm and too heavy The 50mm 1.8 is good for amateurs. it can break easily and the resolution are too bad for me. the 50mm 1.4 from Canon...I like the form factor and weight but the colours are too greenish. the new 50mm 1.2 RF..Ok, too huge. the one from Zeiss..i think is overrated.. the 1.2 is the best combination of form factor, weight and quality
@rynfilms5 жыл бұрын
Nice quick breakdown. I agree that they probably could have made the 50RF smaller, but I guess you can’t get everything in the perfect package.
